Urban Seduction: Housewives Club

Chapter 1543: Chapter 1543: The Envious Patient But with busy schedules, they only knew that Zhuo Feng’er had directed a movie, chosen a script, and assembled a team.

They had even celebrated at home when the movie wrapped up.

Everyone just thought she was dabbling, spending some money to make a movie. After all, Zhuo Feng’er had never directed before.

Even though she had taken the time to study directing over the past few years, it was just studying.

Who would have thought that not only did she actually make the movie, but it also got nominated for major awards at an internationally renowned film festival—three very important ones, no less.

This came as a surprise to everyone, but it also brought a sense of shared pride.

The family was already wealthy, powerful, and somewhat famous, but achieving something in the seemingly high-end world of film made everyone even happier.

As for Situ Ying, she was even more impressive, but she wasn’t Ye Fei’s woman yet, so there was less of that personal connection with her compared to Zhuo Feng’er.

This proved Zhuo Feng’er’s ability. She had given up her favorite career in the past because of a fanatical grudge and went behind the scenes.

After she followed Ye Fei, the grudge was gone, but she had made Ye Fei her whole life, and didn’t want to be in the spotlight anymore.

However, Ye Fei encouraged all of them to find their hobbies and careers, so Zhuo Feng’er decided not to act but to help manage the film company and learn directing from Situ Ying.

Who would have thought that her first directed movie would get nominated for an international award? This honor surprised Zhuo Feng’er herself.

When the domestic media got the news, they all competed to report it. But as usual, good comments came with bad ones. Soon, some film critics or online influencers started posting.

One famous professional critic wrote an article. He first pretentiously described the content of the movie ”Eternal Life,” the plot structure, the character arcs of the main and supporting roles, the story outline, and the conflicts.

It seemed like he was trying to appear objective and rational to the readers or viewers.

Of course, that was only the first third of the article.

The rest was a long, critical rant. He had to mention the movie’s values, how empty the story was, how the characters contradicted each other, and how the whole plot was problematic.

He even made it sound subversive. In the last third, he mentioned other similar movies, praised a bunch of films that netizens had already deemed trash, and then said that ”Eternal Life” was several times worse than those films.

He also made up some nonsense about the Cannes Film Festival, saying it was a place where you could win awards if you paid enough money, and that many minor celebrities just went there to walk the red carpet, calling them ”carpet stars.”

Finally, he directly targeted Zhuo Feng’er, bringing up old rumors from netizens.

For example, he said that Zhuo Feng’er had married an old man twice her age for money back in the day, and now she was being kept by some guy half her age, which was why she suddenly retired at the peak of her career.

He also claimed that she had paid a lot of money to the Cannes Film Festival to get the nomination.

These irresponsible guesses ignited the gossiping hearts of netizens. Many people posted photos of Zhuo Feng’er and Ye Fei, speculating that she was being kept by Ye Fei.

That’s how the internet works. News spreads explosively, and the truth doesn’t matter as long as it’s sensational. So in just a few hours, when Ye Fei was lying down with his two wives, he scrolled through Weibo and saw this post.

Zhuo Feng’er, lying on his left, gasped, frowned, and finished reading with a soft hum.

Mingyue Xin, on his right, also saw it and clicked her tongue, saying, ”This person is so irresponsible. How can they just say anything and everything?”

”Some people are just like that. They don’t have principles. They just bite whoever is popular. They’re like mad dogs,” Zhuo Feng’er said with a shrug.

She knew this world well. When she was famous before, she had her fair share of critics, even with her innocent image. Many people didn’t care about the truth; they just wanted to criticize, as if slandering and hurting others online came with no cost.

Ye Fei reached out and hugged both women, pulling them closer and making a contented sound. ”Do you want me to do something about it?” he asked.

”No, it’s a small thing. These critics and influencers, they’re all just doing it for the money. Very few of them have any real integrity. The more you pay attention to them, the more they act like mad dogs,” Zhuo Feng’er shook her head. In the past, she might have been upset by such criticism, but now it was different.

In her heart, all that mattered was Ye Fei.

As long as he knew the truth about her, nothing else mattered.

”We can’t just let them say whatever they want,” Mingyue Xin argued. She had always been someone who hated injustice and hadn’t experienced what Zhuo Feng’er had gone through, so she couldn’t tolerate it.

”Just hire some people to post some articles in response. Let them argue. It’s free publicity for us!” Zhuo Feng’er laughed.

Publicity, huh? That’s true. The entertainment industry is full of hype.

Some people become famous because of good reviews, while others become famous because of bad ones. It’s like those minor actors who post scandalous photos or show off their connections with rich people. In their worldview, that’s how they survive.

”How about we hire a lawyer to send some cease-and-desist letters?” Ye Fei suggested.

This kind of thing is just too common in the industry. Once men and women step into this circle, there’s no way out unscathed. In the world of capital, actors are always just actors.
