Chapter 563 Basement

The next scene unfolded exactly as expected.

”You have a knack for getting my attention, miss. Now that you have it, youʼll have to pay the price,” Ross said smoothly, his voice dripping with amusement.

He reached out, tilting Altheaʼs chin up with two fingers, forcing her wide eyes to meet his. Before she could react, his lips descended upon hers in a sudden, forceful kiss.

”Mmph!” Althea gasped, her body freezing in place. This was her characterʼs first kiss, and it showed in the way she stood stiffly, paralyzed by shock.

She had expected many things from this night, but not this—not the searing heat of Rossʼs breath against her lips, nor the overwhelming way his mouth moved against hers, commanding and unapologetic.

Her heart pounded wildly in her chest. She didnʼt know how to kiss back, didnʼt even know how to breathe properly.

Yet, her body betrayed her, a strange warmth pooling deep within her as Rossʼs scent, a mix of expensive cologne and raw masculinity, clouded her senses.

His hand cupped the curve of her waist, fingers pressing possessively against her back as he pulled her closer, deepening the kiss.

The world around them blurred, her mind spiraling into confusion. The kiss was too much—too intense.

Just as she began to feel herself drowning in the foreign sensation, Rossʼs hand slid lower, tracing the curve of her hips before boldly squeezing the soft flesh of her rear.

Reality snapped back into focus.

”No! Stop! You pervert!” Altheaʼs voice finally broke free, her hands shoving against his chest in sheer panic.

Ross merely chuckled, his smirk unfazed.

”Feisty.” He caught her wrist before she could retreat, his grip firm yet playful. Without a second thought, he pulled her along, ignoring her protests as he tossed a thick wad of cash onto the table.

The crisp bills fluttered before landing beside their half-finished drinks, drawing the eyes of onlookers.

”Letʼs go,” he said, dragging her toward the parking lot.

The night air was cool against Altheaʼs flushed skin, but her thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions—shock, fear, and something else she didnʼt want to acknowledge.

Her heels clicked against the pavement as she struggled against his grip, but Ross was far stronger.

They reached his sleek black car, the polished surface gleaming under the dim streetlights. He opened the passenger door, guiding her inside before shutting it with a decisive click.

The next moment, he slid into the driverʼs seat, the confined space between them crackling with unspoken tension.

”Now, where were we?” Ross murmured, his smirk returning as he turned toward her, eyes dark with mischief. He leaned in, fingers grazing her cheek, about to capture her lips once more—

Then, he stopped.

Tears.

A single drop rolled down Altheaʼs cheek, glistening under the soft glow of the dashboard lights.

Ross blinked. His mind, clouded with playful arrogance just moments ago, suddenly cleared.

”Please stop. I donʼt want this,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

A strange feeling twisted in Rossʼs chest. For the first time that night, he hesitated.

What the fuck…?

His grip loosened, and he leaned back, studying her face more closely. The trembling of her hands, the uneven rise and fall of her chest, the sheer vulnerability in her gaze—it all clicked.

Had he completely misread the situation?

This wasnʼt the reaction of someone playing hard to get.

Of course, this was how the two main characters first met in the movie.

The accident prior to this had brought them together, but it was clear now that Altheaʼs motives had never been what he had assumed.

A long silence stretched between them before Ross exhaled heavily, running a hand through his hair.

Shit.

Feeling the weight of his mistake, he did the only thing he could think of—he offered her a job. An apology, a second chance at a different kind of relationship.

And from that moment on, their fates became entangled in ways neither of them could have predicted.

The plot moved quickly from there. Althea became Rossʼs secretary, settling into her new role with surprising ease.

But just as she was getting comfortable, another major player entered the picture—Cate.

Cate was, of course, the rich heiress and Rossʼs fiancée in the movie. She had the pedigree, the power, and the undeniable beauty that came with her status.

But what she wasnʼt expecting was competition—especially not in the form of Rossʼs new secretary.

When Cate arrived at Rossʼs office that day, she had intended a simple visit to check in on her fiancé, maybe remind him that she was still there despite his busy schedule.

But the moment she stepped inside, her sharp gaze landed on Althea, and everything changed.

The sight of her was an immediate gut punch.

Althea—no, Rose, as her character was called—was stunning. Her figure was accentuated by the fitted blouse and pencil skirt that hugged her curves in all the right places.

She radiated a soft, almost angelic beauty, with big, expressive eyes and lips that seemed made for temptation.

Cate felt her stomach twist, an unexpected wave of insecurity creeping in. She had always been confident, always known that she was the one meant to stand beside Ross.

But now, seeing this woman, this supposed ʼsecretaryʼ—it made her feel something she didnʼt like.

Envy.

It didnʼt help that, in real life, Althea was already a mother. Cate found that nearly impossible to believe.

How could someone exude such effortless sensuality and still maintain an air of innocence?

She looked not a day past her prime, while Cate herself—despite being a renowned beauty—suddenly felt as though she was playing a losing game.

Cate planned to ask Althea what was her secret to looking young and pretty but for now she had a job to do.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Cate reminded herself that she had a role to play. She wasnʼt here to admire her competition—she was here to establish her dominance.

Her heels clicked sharply against the polished floor as she approached Altheaʼs desk, her expression carefully composed but laced with unmistakable hostility.
