Reborn at Boot Camp: General, Don’t Mess Around!

Chapter 5420: Chapter 5420 In a Hurry

Having a day or two to go home was already the limit, equivalent to using the one or two days of rest and adjustment they’d normally have after returning to the unit on family visits. Once the visit was over, they would have to immediately immerse themselves in their individual training.

Old Man Xia, however, felt very satisfied. Hanging up the phone, he said to Uncle Fu with a smile, ”Little Fu, our girl will be coming home in a couple of days. You should take the opportunity while the snow isn’t too heavy and make a quick trip to the market. Don’t send the guards to shop; we’ll go ourselves. I need to personally pick out some food that our girl loves to eat.”

What does Ye Jian love to eat? She really didn’t have any particular favorites; she was quite casual about her food, clothing, and general living expenses.

Uncle Fu didn’t dare let Old Man Xia go outside—although the snow wasn’t heavy, it was still snowing, after all, ”Leave it to me. You just got over a cold two days ago; you wouldn’t want An Jiaxin to come back and see you not feeling well, would you? That would make her anxious when she returns to her unit.”

With just a few words, he persuaded Old Man Xia.

Uncle Fu, equally eager for Ye Jian’s return, instructed the guards to take good care of Old Man Xia. He then took an umbrella, grabbed a vegetable basket, and drove himself to the market.

As the car left Dan Gui Garden, Mrs. Qin, who had come along with Qin Xiu to visit her in-laws, noticed the departing vehicle and said with surprise, ”Isn’t that the Fu family’s car? Where are they rushing off to in such a hurry?”

Qin Xiu, who was inside the car reading the newspaper, hadn’t paid attention. Hearing this, he looked up from the paper and glanced outside, but the Fu family’s car was no longer in sight. He responded indifferently, ”Perhaps Grandpa Fu had some urgent business to attend to.”

”That can’t be right. Old Man Xia caught a cold recently, and it’s snowing outside. He wouldn’t go out in these conditions. I hope nothing untoward has happened.” Mrs. Qin held Old Man Xia in high regard, so she quickly instructed her driver to speed up and said to Qin Xiu, ”Let’s go check on the Fu family first. I won’t be at ease until I see for myself.”

Like her own parents, Old Man Xia was an elderly person of advanced age, and the hardest time for the elderly was winter—even in the North, where heating was available, elders struggled with the cold season.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have come to Dan Gui Garden on a snowy day; it was because she was worried about her in-laws.

Although Mrs. Qin could be domineering, her filial piety was exceptional.

Qin Xiu also couldn’t focus on his newspaper anymore. He folded it neatly and placed it in the storage pocket behind the co-driver’s seat, also instructing the driver to go a bit faster.

The corner of the newspaper peeking out from the storage pocket was identical to the one Old Man Xia read. Qin Xiu had also seen the inaccurate reports about Wanhai, but he didn’t recognize the somewhat blurred image of the Peacekeeping Female Soldier in the report as Ye Jian.

Once they arrived at the Fu family’s house and the car came to a stop, Mrs. Qin didn’t wait for Qin Xiu to offer his help; she quickly opened the door and hurried out to ring the doorbell.

Rushing in the biting cold, the wind carrying snowflakes irritated her throat, and Mrs. Qin coughed uncontrollably. Following her out of the car, Qin Xiu quickly caught up and supported her, ”Mom, if you fall at Grandpa Fu’s place, he won’t be able to forgive himself.”

After all, she was his mother. Despite his grievances over how she treated Du Jiayi, Qin Xiu couldn’t bring himself to be harsh with Mrs. Qin. Moreover, she hadn’t been pushing him as much this past year, so he had stopped avoiding her.

Seeing that her son was no longer giving her the cold shoulder, Mrs. Qin, slightly fearful in retrospect, had also eased off the pressure.

Of course, the main reason was... she no longer had the energy to keep a constant watch over Qin Xiu. Currently, what troubled Mrs. Qin the most was Qin Ying’s constant attempts to sneak the household registration book out!

Qin Ying was chasing after a poor soldier of her own accord, yet the poverty-stricken soldier not only didn’t accept her but actively avoided Qin Ying... This matter had already spread throughout the capital city. A few young ladies who didn’t look favorably upon Qin Ying even ridiculed her at a gathering, which infuriated Mrs. Qin and gave her another headache.
