Reborn at Boot Camp: General, Don’t Mess Around!

Chapter 5518: Chapter 5518: Turn Against

Old Man Xia was working on persuading people, and Chief Engineer Fu was no exception. Originally it was a matter concerning Ye Jian and Xia Jinyuan, but in the end...

Ye Jian glanced at Old Man Xia, and then at Chief Engineer Fu. She sneakily sent a text message to Xia Jinyuan, which read, ”Be ready for my dad to bombard you.”

Knowing that Chief Engineer Fu would disagree, she had not expected him to be so adamant.

Chief Engineer Fu, who was steadfast in his opinion, continued to persuade Old Man Xia, ”In two more years, An Jiaxin will be just twenty-five. I’m absolutely not opposed to an engagement. It’s not that I’m against it; I just think it’s a bit early.”

”Do you really feel comfortable with An Jiaxin getting engaged at twenty-three? If it were one of your students, wouldn’t you advise against it? You would, right? Twenty-three is so young. To get engaged so early, ah, Dad, I honestly think it’s too soon.”

Then...

Xia Jinyuan replied to his girlfriend’s text message, ”How is your future father-in-law now? Did he get angry?”

Ye Jian peeked at Old Man Xia and, covering her laugh, replied to the message, ”The situation doesn’t look good. It seems like my dad has thoroughly convinced Grandpa Gen. Initially, Grandpa agreed to the engagement, but now, I’m afraid he might side with my dad.”

Upon seeing the message, Xia Jinyuan: ”...”

His future father-in-law really was a talent; he was practically ready to kneel before him.

Old Man Xia had initially agreed, but in the end, he was swayed.

Xia Jinyuan’s respect for his future father-in-law grew even more in that moment.

Ye Jian, seizing the right moment, spoke up, ”Dad, Grandpa, let’s not discuss the engagement for now; let’s eat first. We can talk about this matter calmly; I’m not in a hurry. I’m really worried that because of my business, Dad and Grandpa will argue.”

Ye Jian was genuinely worried. During the New Year, if her dad and grandpa argued over her engagement, it would truly be her fault.

”Your dad is just a stubborn mule!” Despite feeling irritated inside, Old Man Xia couldn’t help but curse Chief Engineer Fu a couple more times, yet he felt there was some truth in his words.

Considering their age, it seemed that his granddaughter’s engagement was indeed a bit early.

Perhaps they should wait and discuss it later?

”Grandpa, please don’t be angry. I know you all want what’s best for me. For that reason alone, please, Grandpa, don’t stay mad, okay?” Ye Jian held Old Man Xia’s hand, comforting him, ”My dad really doesn’t mean anything else. Don’t be angry. He just can’t bear to let me go.”

Old Man Xia glanced at his son, who was trying to appease him with a smile, and let out a somewhat relieved ”hmpf,” ”I’m just afraid he’s eyeing the bowl but thinking about the pot.”

Chief Engineer Fu couldn’t help but show a bittersweet expression, ”Dad, I really don’t mean that. It’s just An Jiaxin is too young. I don’t want her to get engaged over the New Year.”

Going home for the New Year only to have a bucket of cold water dumped on you unexpectedly, Chief Engineer Fu felt a deep chill in his heart.

Getting engaged, waiting another two years isn’t too late!

Uncle Fu, carrying steaming dishes, came out, ”Come, come, come, dinner’s ready, dinner’s ready.”

This year, with the family accompanying Old Man Xia for New Year’s, his joy led him to instruct the guard to open a bottle of red wine, and to the guard Xiao Yu he said, ”Xiao Yu, you stay this year. Come, don’t just stand there, join us! Next year, I’ll give you holiday time, so you can go home early for a joyous New Year.”

Xiao Yu came from Yun Province and was a rural kid. To get home in Yun Province, he still needed to take a bus to the town, then a motorcycle ride, and finally... walk for about five hours to reach his home.

For him, staying in the capital city for the New Year was a mark of Old Man Xia’s appreciation. His family, knowing this, reminded him to take good care of Old Man Xia and not miss home too much.

With a simple smile, Xiao Yu said, ”Old Man Xia, I’d be even happier to spend New Year’s here. Next year, I’ll still stay put. As long as you’re willing to keep me on as your guard.”
