The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 1199: Chapter 1199: Releasing River Lanterns (3)

Yu Qingge sighed, ”What about Elder Tang? I should call him Grandpa...” She had taken over Yu Keke’s body, so she might as well bear all of Yu Keke’s responsibilities.

”Now you are his emotional pillar,” Yang Ruxin patted Yu Qingge’s shoulder, ”Perhaps you could cook something for him or make a piece of clothing; I could deliver it to him...”

”I’ve told you, I don’t know how to cook,” Yu Qingge said with a black line across her forehead. ”Even if I did, it would be baking or something, and there’s no machinery here. As for making clothes... heh...”

”Alright,” Yang Ruxin nodded, how could she have forgotten this girl was only good at eating?

”Then could you teach me?” Yu Qingge looked at Yang Ruxin with some uncertainty.

”Teaching you is out of the question, but you could buy something instead,” Yang Ruxin could only suggest another idea.

”That’s good,” Yu Qingge instantly cheered up when she heard she could buy something, ”I’ll go in a while...”

Since coming over on the thirteenth, it had been all hustle and bustle, and they hadn’t been able to take everyone to see the lanterns on the fourteenth night. Today, Dao Xuzi had taken those two guys away, and finally, things seemed to have come to a conclusion. So, that evening, Yang Ruxin finally took everyone onto the streets.

However, since everyone had already received quite a few lanterns on the previous two nights, going out to the streets again was merely for the fun of it.

The lantern festival was not just about lanterns; there were also plenty of snacks. So, in the end, everyone’s focus shifted entirely to the food.

Because today was the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, the actual day of the Lantern Festival, in addition to viewing the lanterns, there were also activities to pray for blessings. People could go to the Hucheng River outside the city to release water lanterns as a way to pray for good fortune.

Having come out with great effort, naturally, they wouldn’t miss such an interesting event.

”Actually, the custom of releasing lanterns to pray for blessings has a long history,” Yuan Mengzhu explained as they walked, ”Those near water release water lanterns, and those on mountains release sky lanterns. It’s said to be very effective. Some people’s water lanterns drift far without going out, indicating that they are blessed by the River Goddess...”

Yang Ruxin just smiled, neither affirming nor denying such claims.

There were so many people by the river that the group had to walk a bit further before they found a less crowded spot.

In truth, the adults were okay with it, but the most excited were the children. Erya wasn’t even four years old yet and didn’t really understand what praying for blessings was all about, so Sini took on the role of teacher: ”Lanlan, praying for blessings means telling your wish to the lantern, then the lantern takes your wish to the River Goddess. The River Goddess will bless whoever’s wish is the most sincere...”

”Why is the River Goddess a goddess? Why can’t it be a River Grandpa?” Erya blinked her big eyes, puzzled.

”Because... oh come on, if I say it’s a goddess then it’s a goddess. Wouldn’t a River Grandpa be ugly?”

”That’s true.” Erya thought about it, found Sini’s explanation persuasive, and quickly nodded. Then she lifted her Lotus Lamp, ”Then I’ll be the most sincere...” As she spoke, she suddenly knelt down, ”River Goddess, I want big sister to live a hundred years...”

”Why are you praying for that?” Yu Qingge couldn’t help but ask.

”I heard Grandpa Dao Xuzi say that everyone will die, and older people die before younger ones. I don’t want big sister to die, and only if big sister lives a hundred years will I not get beaten or be abandoned...”

The girl’s candid words made everyone’s nose tingle with emotion.

”Xin sister, you’ve really done well; all the little ones at home seem to really rely on you...” Yu Qingge teased Yang Ruxin with a nudge.
