I'm Trapped in the Block

Chapter 335: Chapter 332: The Inheritor

The Wind Rider seemed to have vanished and didn’t reappear for a long time.

However, as time passed, commotions would occasionally stir outside the safe house.

At times, a Black Shadow would even rush into the house, only to disappear just as quickly.

In this state of constant alarm, Li Luo continued to observe the Black Shadows.

Most of them were humanoid, while others were dilapidated black objects. Each possessed its own unique abilities. Beside her, Jin Lou continuously explained their identities.

Eventually, some Black Shadows were even able to affect them while standing outside the house.

”That’s an Inheritor,” Jin Lou said, warily eyeing a tall figure outside.

It was over two meters tall and didn’t look human. It carried a massive bamboo basket on its back, filled to the brim with books.

”Cover your ears! Don’t listen to it speak,” Jin Lou quickly reminded her.

Although Li Luo didn’t know why, she obediently covered her ears.

Meanwhile, inside the Block, Mo Ling was staring at the tall Black Shadow, utterly shocked.

’An overseer?’

Mo Ling could tell that this tall Black Shadow was of the same race as the overseer from the Lamp Repairer’s memories. It was completely hairless, its skin was covered in wrinkles, and its tusks protruded, making it look like an upright walrus.

After this Black Shadow arrived at the door, it didn’t barge in recklessly like the others. Instead, it took a book out of its basket and began to recite from it.

It was that strange language again.

The recitation had a piercing quality, and it instantly echoed throughout the house.

Mo Ling had intended to cover his ears and hide inside the Block, just like Li Luo. But the content of the recitation immediately captured his attention.

It wasn’t some poem or song, nor was it some incantation or dogma. It was a... manifesto.

The target of its denunciation was a type of creature.

...

The Hell Beast.

A plague upon the Abyss.

They stir up tsunamis, trigger Volcanoes, spread plagues, and shatter the very earth...

Wherever they go, they leave behind a living hell, a scene of utter devastation.

They can induce wicked thoughts in the hearts of living beings and dramatically increase the ”probability” of any and all disasters.

War, famine, extinction... there is nothing the Hell Beasts cannot do.

But now, the Hell Beasts have come to the 3rd Floor of the Abyss.

They come in swarms, surging toward the third floor like a tidal wave.

Once they discover a race, there is no other outcome for it but utter extinction.

Sharp fangs and claws, fur like needles, pitch-black bodies... The Hell Beasts are wreathed in scorching black ash. Even the mere sight of them can warp one’s mind, causing them to turn on their own kind and kill one another.

These corrupted individuals will then spread their wicked thoughts, accelerating the destruction of their entire race. Once someone is corrupted by a Hell Beast, they are beyond saving.

Their destructive aura will destroy a creature’s memories, turning it into an empty ”shell.” They then forge new memories, creating crazed servants.

Hell Beasts are immortal and indestructible. Even if you annihilate them into ash, they will be reborn from that ash and make a comeback. And each time they are killed, they become even more terrifying.

Moreover, they feel no pain and never give up. Once they have locked onto a race, they will latch onto it relentlessly until that race is extinct.

They once endured for several thousand years, dragging a powerful, intelligent race to extinction, devouring it completely. They even followed the spread of its civilization to wipe out all its subordinate races.

The Hell Beasts were born to destroy.

However, these creatures have a fatal weakness.

They fear pure white. Pure white objects can make them retreat on sight.

While it cannot kill them, it can stop them!

For this reason, all creatures of the 3rd Floor of the Abyss must unite to fight the Hell Beasts.

Since white can stop them, we must build a white cage to trap the Hell Beasts!

They are creatures of chaos, born only to destroy, and possess no great intellect. This is our chance.

We need to build a trap, a trap that can seal the Hell Beasts.

Ideally, an island. A pure white island.

With no shadows, no crevices—absolute white!

Reflecting the sunlight by day and brilliantly lit at night, we will use eternal white to seal them away forever!

Comrades from every race, please join us and fight for our future.

Let us build a Paradise of our own and utterly destroy this hell!

Let us ensure that darkness never again falls upon our people!

...

The tall Black Shadow recited with great passion and emotion, growing more and more agitated as its voice continued to echo within the safe house.

As Mo Ling listened, a fighting spirit began to rise within his heart.

He wanted to rush outside right now and fight to the death against the endless darkness.

At the same time, an indescribable sense of heroic ambition filled his heart.

’I will become the hero who saves the Abyss!’

’I will defeat the Hell Beasts and save my entire race!’

The manifesto seemed to possess a powerful magic, making one involuntarily get swept up in its cause. It was as if the shadow of the Hell Beasts truly was descending upon their race, a thick black cloud drifting over the island to devour the last shred of light.

’Fight!’

Mo Ling’s fighting spirit surged, and he was just about to control the Block and fly out.

But just then, the clear sound of a gong suddenly rang out.

Mo Ling jolted, shocked back to his senses.

He followed the sound with his eyes and saw Li Luo standing in front of the desk, holding a hammer she had swiped from Jin Lou.

The recitation from outside was abruptly cut off.

The tall Black Shadow trembled, took a moment to gather its composure, and then began to recite again. But its only answer was another, louder clang of the gong.

BONG BONG CLANG, BONG BONG CLANG...

Li Luo struck with growing enthusiasm. Every time the Inheritor tried to begin its recitation, it was met with an earth-shattering clang from the gong.

Moreover, Li Luo’s striking became more and more rhythmic, almost like a New Year’s celebration, making it sound very festive.

After several fruitless attempts, the Inheritor finally stopped reciting. It placed the book back into the bamboo basket on its back, glanced at the safe house one last time, and departed in frustration.

Li Luo held the hammer, waiting for a long time. Only after confirming that the recitation wasn’t starting again did she put the hammer down and let out a long sigh of relief.

”Covering my ears was useless. I could still hear it.”

She turned to Jin Lou and said seriously.

Jin Lou scratched its head, looking a little embarrassed. ”I forgot. I haven’t had any contact with normal humans since I was activated. When we robots encounter an Inheritor, we just mute our audio. Then we can’t hear anything.”

”Sorry, that was my oversight,” it said apologetically to Li Luo.

”It’s fine. As long as we got through it.” Li Luo walked over and handed the hammer back. ”What was that Inheritor reciting? Why did I start wanting to rush outside while listening to it? Was it some kind of spell?”

Jin Lou shook its head. ”I don’t know either. But my companions have analyzed it. It’s the language of the Walrus Race. As for the content, nobody knows.”

”The Walrus Race? There are other races on this island?”

”Of course. They also have their own identities, but they’re relatively rare, and it’s hard to get a clear look at most of them.”

Li Luo nodded. It seemed this Hell Island didn’t just target humans.

She turned her head to look at the shadows outside the door, lost in thought.
