My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 628: Chapter 628: No Need to Wait for Me

The jade-like feet in front of him were narrow with high arches, slender in shoes but plump when bare, with lustrous skin, pink nails, and slightly upturned toes...

Marquis Gu gulped as he pinched them: ”...”

Forget it, forget it, there’s no arguing with a drunkard.

So he grumblingly picked up the unruly little drunk wife and tossed her onto the Arhat Bed, then instructed the maid to bring in hot water, softly coaxing the little drunkard to change her clothes.

The little maid, blushing with her head down, quickly brought the hot water and then retreated.

Marquis Gu worked up a sweat washing his wife’s jade feet, and then spent some time coaxing her to change clothes, loosen her hair, and wash her face.

He couldn’t help but complain, ”No wonder they say that only small-minded people and women are difficult to raise, why is it so troublesome.”

Even though it was troublesome, he never relied on someone else’s hands.

Because he truly couldn’t rest easy.

His usually obedient little wife, when drunk, threw little tantrums, both cute and annoying, and she was so hard to please.

This kind of torment he was unwilling to let others suffer.

Why, you ask?

Perhaps because he had a kind heart.

With another husband, the little drunkard probably would have had her bottom spanked swollen.

Marquis Gu felt there wouldn’t be a better husband than him in the world, and he felt a sense of ’if not me, then who’, as if the responsibility on his shoulders just got heavier.

Being married is definitely different from not being married.

Extinguishing the silver candle and securing her in his arms, Marquis Gu let out a satisfied sigh.

”Sleep, sleep, you have no idea how much gossip I heard today, made me so angry I wanted to kill someone, and Mr. Songshan had to add fuel to the fire. How am I going to face people in the future, won’t the brothers in the Great Camp think I’m incapable?”

Marquis Gu held Qin Yuan tightly, muttering about the troubles of being a thirty-year-old War God.

”When will we finally consummate our marriage!”

He so wanted Qin Yuan to have a child and prove himself.

Those strange glances and enigmatic smiles were really unbearable.

But as Mr. Songshan said, it was best not to have children in the next few years, and if they must, they should avoid the Emperor’s eyes.

But just thinking about the troublesome Imperial Examination Bureau gave Marquis Gu a headache.

Qin Yuan mumbled a few times, then fell asleep.

Marquis Gu gently kissed the top of the little drunkard’s head and closed his eyes.

Just as he was about to fall asleep, a few whistles suddenly sounded from outside.

Marquis Gu’s hair stood on end: ”...”

Who was foolish enough to dare intrude into the Marquis Mansion at night?

Did they take him for an easy target?

Marquis Gu released his arms, placing the soundly sleeping Qin Yuan on the jade pillow, jumped out of bed, grabbed the outer garment from the bench at the bed’s foot, and quickly went outside to instruct the night maid to watch and care, before rushing like an arrow to where the whistle sounded.

The guards had already swarmed in, brandishing bright pinewood torches, surrounding the bloodied man in the center.

The bloodied man’s hair was wild and tangled, with a few knots, his tall frame barely supported by a wooden stick, his weakened legs trembling, as if he might collapse at any moment.

Marquis Gu opened his mouth, ready to curse.

The Dingbei Marquis Mansion wasn’t a place where just any cat or dog could wander in!

”... Brother, Brother, save me...”

The awkward tone, hoarse voice, reached his ears.

Marquis Gu was stunned.

The bloodied man’s eyes shone with a beast-like light, extending his arm, stumbling a few steps towards him before collapsing.

”Yelv Xianyong.”

Marquis Gu finally recognized this half-brother from another mother and clan.

At once, he didn’t care for much, quickly stepping forward to support him, crying out in anguish, ”Brother, brother, how did you end up like this?”

His hands touched the blood and sweat-soaked, cold and hardened clothing, the burning hot body.

Though he had plans to use Yelv Xianyong, he also held a feeling of mutual admiration, Marquis Gu repeatedly asked, ”Brother, tell me, who did this to you?”

Yelv Xianyong’s chapped lips slowly moved: ”... It was the Young Master... the Young Master believed slander, then ordered people to poison my wine, intending to poison me. I fled for my life but didn’t know where to go, so I thought of the past friendship, wanting to bid farewell to you before I die.”

Thinking about it was truly pitiful, the happiest days of his life were surprisingly at the Dingbei Marquis Mansion, and in his dying moments, the one he couldn’t let go of the most was his family’s enemy, the Dingbei Marquis.

Yelv Xianyong’s gaze was vacant, fixedly staring at the bright moon in the sky.

In the distant Northern Border, the moon was just as beautiful.

His coming here was his final wish.

Whatever happens next, is what he deserves.

Marquis Gu was struck by the scenery, his eyes suddenly stinging with tears.

He shared mutual admiration with Yelv Xianyong, not just because the man was somewhat of a hero, but also because their situations were so similar.

Though he had calculations, he didn’t expect them to come true.

Precisely because they came true, Marquis Gu was so distraught.

A tear fell on Yelv Xianyong’s blood-stained face.

This tear, made Yelv Xianyong’s cold heart burn, giving him strength to speak.

”To receive your tear, I can die without regret.”

Marquis Gu hurriedly said, ”Good brother, why say such things. I’ll call the best doctor to treat you. Since Yelv Guza can’t accommodate you, you need not ever again serve him, just recuperate with me.”

Yelv Xianyong used all his strength to come here, entrusting himself to the one he trusted most, a fleeting smile appeared, then he fell into slumber.

Marquis Gu quickly ordered someone to carry him to the guest room, then instructed Gu Shiba to go fetch Doctor Li immediately.

By this time, a curfew had been enacted, and the Patrol Camp was patrolling in several teams to prevent any night-time wrongdoing.

Gu Shiba took the waist token from the Marquis Mansion and dashed into the night.

Marquis Gu paced back and forth outside the guest room to relieve his anxiety and apprehension.

After waiting a long time, chaotic footsteps were finally heard from outside the courtyard.

Doctor Li’s irritated voice followed closely, ”Be careful, if I tumble, who will prescribe the medicine? You?”

Marquis Gu felt a sudden lightness in his heart.

Doctor Li was here, there was hope for Yelv Xianyong’s life to be saved.

Doctor Li hurriedly arrived, his hair messily tied atop his head, clothes disheveled, and upon seeing Marquis Gu, said no more: ”Where’s the person?”

Gu Jinghui personally opened the door, ushering Doctor Li inside.

The room was filled with the smell of blood and the scent of Renhe Hall’s golden sore medicine, Yelv Xianyong’s complexion was dark red, his lips were dry and cracked, peeling inch by inch, his lip color had already turned purple.

”... Is this a Yelv person?”

Doctor Li stopped his hurried steps.

Gu Jinghui, sensing something was off in his tone, felt a tightening in his heart and quickly explained, ”This is my brother from another clan, poisoned by Yelv Zhi, escaped with his life to see me, I bother you for your effort, Master.”

Doctor Li approached, extending a hand to check the pulse, then flipped open an eyelid, hesitated a moment, and asked, ”Where’s the madam?”

”... She’s had too much to drink...” Gu Jinghui stammered, ”If you need her woken up, I’ll go immediately.”

Doctor Li hurriedly waved him off, shaking so fast he left afterimages, ”No need, after I leave, ask her if she can prepare an incense specifically for neutralizing the Gobi Poison Scorpion. With this incense’s help, he might have a chance to recover. I’ll first prescribe some medicines to sustain his life. Whether he lives or not, depends on himself.”
