My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 458: Chapter 458: What’s Done Is Done

Mrs. Cui watched from the side, both astonished and impressed.

She had always known that Hong Ye was quick-witted, but when she was at the Qin Family, she wasn’t this bold and eloquent.

Now, she carried herself with such confidence.

This daughter of hers had truly made something of herself; not only had she won over the whole Marquis Mansion, but she also managed the servants so well.

Her own biological children would probably have to rely on Qin Yuan in the future.

And look at what became of Qin Wan after marrying that impoverished scholar.

Mrs. Lin was also uncomfortable and said, ”After all, I am the elder of the lady...”

Before she finished, Hong Ye interjected, ”If you don’t know how to speak properly, then be quiet. It’s not that my words are harsh, but who do you think you are to claim the position of the lady’s elder? Today, our lady came because she heard that her own sister was being mistreated in the Lin Family, so stop pretending to be the elder here.”

Lin Ziqi saw Qin Yuan looking noble and imposing, adorned with intricate silk clothes and jewels, surrounded by nannies, maids, and guards. He couldn’t help but feel timid and didn’t dare to argue, only tugging at Mrs. Lin’s sleeve with a darkened face.

Mrs. Lin reluctantly paid her respects.

Before she finished, Qin Yuan said, ”Hong Ye is taking things too seriously. They’re elders; if they don’t understand the etiquette, just let it be.”

Mrs. Lin got even angrier.

Seeing Qin Yuan openly suppressing Mrs. Lin’s arrogance and standing up for Mrs. Cui and Qin Wan, Lin Ziqi dared not let his mother take advantage of her seniority any longer and quickly said, ”Madam, Cousin is resting inside after her miscarriage, so she couldn’t come out to greet you. Please forgive her.”

Qin Yuan waved her hand.

Hong Ye immediately said, ”Since that’s the case, Madam won’t pursue her rudeness.”

Lin Ziqi politely led the way, and Mrs. Lin, puffing up her cheeks, followed behind, swallowing her anger.

Mrs. Cui felt much more comfortable inside and thought it was a great idea to have invited Qin Yuan.

The group then entered the courtyard.

The Lin Family’s courtyard wasn’t large, and as soon as they entered, it felt crowded.

Qin Yuan asked, ”Where is my sister?”

Yanhong, with tears in her eyes, rushed forward to kneel and cried, ”Lady Yanhong pleads with Madam, for the sake of the many years spent as sisters with our lady, to stand up for her.”

Lin Ziqi snarled, ”You wretched maid, can’t you speak properly? The Marchioness just arrived and hasn’t even had a sip of tea, and you’re spewing nonsense. I haven’t even held you accountable for causing the miscarriage of the cousin, yet you come to cry foul first.”

Qin Yuan said, ”There’s no need for tea. I came only for my sister. Brother-in-law, don’t worry. As the saying goes, hearing only one side leads to obscurity, hearing both sides leads to clarity. Let’s discuss together what happened.”

Yanhong then carefully explained the matter in detail.

Mrs. Cui was trembling with anger.

She had only known about Lin Ziqi’s secret dealings with the cousin, not expecting more behind it all.

”What does this vile woman take my daughter for, and what does she take our Qin Family for?”

With Qin Yuan present, she felt more courageous, and with a wave of her hand, she said to the nannies she brought from home, ”Drag that heartless vile woman out here. She still has the nerve to lie in bed pretending to be dead, thinking I would spare her for this.”

The nannies, eager for action, immediately charged into Lady Yu’s room like hungry tigers after a lamb, dragging her out of bed.

Lady Yu, dressed in her regular clothes, was pulled roughly by the nannies, her clothes rolling up to reveal quite a bit of her fair skin, her hair disheveled, covering most of her pale face, in extreme disarray.

Seeing this, the corners of Qin Yuan’s lips couldn’t help but lift slightly.

In her previous life, when Yu Xiaolian found her way to Jiangxi, she spoke pitifully, and Qin Yuan, feeling sorry for her loneliness, had treated her with all her heart, not expecting to quickly fall for her trap.

Some people just couldn’t be too close.

Years later, she realized that Yu Xiaolian and Lin Ziqi had been childhood sweethearts with a marriage arranged long ago.

Later, Lin Ziqi secretly called off the engagement to climb up to the Qin Family.

Mrs. Lin felt guilty towards relatives, full of remorse towards Yu Xiaolian. Both aunt and niece felt Qin Yuan had taken the rightful position as Lin Ziqi’s wife, not knowing how many troubles arose in the backyard.

The loving relationship between Qin Yuan and Lin Ziqi wore down to nothing, greatly due to these two.

Lin Ziqi wore a pained expression, clenching his fists tightly and hiding them in his sleeves.

Lady Yu was thrown heavily in front of Mrs. Cui, and Mrs. Cui demanded, ”Why did you intentionally drug her? Were you trying to harm my daughter’s unborn child?”

Lady Yu cried, ”How could I have drugged her? I am a woman of good standing, passionately involved with my cousin and ended up pregnant. While it’s my fault, my sister-in-law shouldn’t hold a grudge. She first had a maid crash into me to cause my miscarriage and now falsely accuses me. How can one be so cruel?”

She splashed dirty water over Qin Wan.

Mrs. Cui gasped, staring at Lady Yu with icy eyes.

Qin Yuan knew this meant Mrs. Cui had murderous intentions.

Mrs. Cui wasn’t known for kindness in the Qin Mansion, but she wasn’t ruthless either. Yet, for Qin Wan, she was willing to stain her hands with blood.

Qin Yuan sighed inwardly.

No matter how irrational Qin Wan acted, Mrs. Cui always cared deeply for her in both past and present life.

It’s truly lucky to have a mother to protect you.

Yanhong panicked, quickly defending herself, ”You’re lying. I saw Miss wasn’t feeling well and hurried to find a doctor, but you stopped me. I pushed you, and you fell by yourself. In this courtyard, no one knew of your affair with the master. How could anyone know you were pregnant? You always talked to Miss about marrying the master’s classmate to become his right-hand, but secretly you were pregnant.”

Hong Ye exclaimed in disbelief, ”My goodness, is she trying to make Mr. Lin’s classmate wear the cuckold’s hat? This... if this gets out, who would dare to be Mr. Lin’s classmate? Madam, you must keep an eye on the young master. Who knows what trouble she might cause if she eyes him after entering the Qin Family.”

Qin Yuan couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

Mrs. Cui’s face grew even darker.

Yanhong suddenly blurted, ”Oh my, a few days ago, the cousin was hinting about wanting to return home with Miss, but Miss refused her, and she got upset, instigating the old lady to turn the young master’s gifts in Miss’s room upside down. So that’s what she meant to do.”

Lin Ziqi’s face turned ashen.

Lady Yu hurriedly defended, ”You mistresses and maids are just slandering me. The young maid didn’t even make any medicine for the sister-in-law. How could I have drugged her? When one intends to charge with a crime, they’ll never be short of words. To me, only my cousin matters. We grew up together as childhood sweethearts, previously we...”

Lin Ziqi hurriedly interrupted, saying to Mrs. Cui, ”Honored mother-in-law, this was initially a family affair, and now it’s been brought to you, it’s indeed my mistake. But what’s done is done, she has already been punished by losing the child. I humbly ask you to be lenient and spare her this time.”
