My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 235: Chapter 235: A Rift Between Husband and Wife

Gu Shiliu looked at Sixth Master Gu and sighed deeply.

”Sixteen is serving the Marquis, how can he judge? Sixth Madam’s illness came so suddenly, how could Old Madam not send someone to inquire about the details?”

Seeing that a few people had gone far, Gu Shiliu lowered his voice and said, ”Sixth Master, think about it. The two young masters are still at the Imperial College and haven’t returned. When they come back and see their own mother like this, if the maternal family says something more in their ears...”

Sixth Master Gu was immediately annoyed, ”The Xu family, the Xu family is really too much.”

His voice was a bit choked.

Frightened, Gu Shiliu hurriedly said, ”These are all family matters of Sixth Master, and Sixteen just spoke casually. It may not necessarily be like this. Besides... isn’t this what Madam meant when she spoke at Wutong Garden?”

Sixth Master Gu looked bewildered at Gu Shiliu.

Gu Shiliu nodded affirmatively.

Sixth Master Gu: ”...”

He, indeed, had not thought of this aspect.

Gu Jinghui also complained about his sixth brother in front of his young wife, ”Just looking at him makes me angry; he can’t even manage his own wife.”

Marquis Gu became increasingly annoyed with his sixth sister-in-law, and by extension, with Sixth Master Gu.

Qin Yuan sighed and said, ”At that time, I also went with Doctor Li to Sixth Sister-in-law’s courtyard. Who could have thought her condition would deteriorate to this extent.”

Gu Jinghui frowned and said, ”Could it be that there’s another hidden story here?”

Qin Yuan furrowed her brows slightly.

”Sixth Sister-in-law’s condition originated from the liver, too many concerns are weighing on her mind. When Doctor Li diagnosed her, he advised her to open her heart, take good care of her body, not to overwork, and to treat it early to avoid it becoming a chronic illness.”

Gu Jinghui added, ”She ended up like this in such a short time?”

Qin Yuan dared not speak recklessly and said, ”Didn’t you read ’Romance of the Three Kingdoms’? In battles, Zhuge Liang could scold Wang Lang to death in front of the formation. Sixth Sister-in-law may be weighed down by some concerns, but your suspicion is not unfounded. It must be seen by Doctor Li to be accurate.”

This part Gu Jinghui had not read yet, but found it a bit amusing and couldn’t help but say, ”If I could scold enemies to death at the front, then in the Northern Border, I should just keep some sharp-mouthed people to insult the Yelv every day. Recently, one wave has not settled, and another rises in the mansion, making it inevitable for me to overthink, but overthinking is better than underthinking. If I had noticed earlier what was wrong with Mrs. Zhao at the beginning, there wouldn’t be today’s disaster.”

Qin Yuan agreed, ”Husband is right, you can never be too cautious.”

Smart people are always suspicious.

In the current situation... being suspicious and cautious is a good thing.

Didn’t she almost fall into a trap with Sixth Madam Gu?

Gu Jinghui tightened his grip on his young wife’s hand.

”Yuan’er, it’s good for us to be united as a couple. You see, Sixth Brother and Sixth Sister-in-law have different hearts, causing unrest in the household, almost letting someone with ulterior motives take advantage. We...”

Qin Yuan snorted and said, ”Does my husband think that what I said was having a different heart?”

In the dry, blazing sunlight, the small mole on her nose tip looked exceptionally charming, and her pouting red lips were enticing.

Inside Gu Jinghui, a wave of indescribable warmth surged. He thought, he really had a bit of a problem. At the sight of his young wife’s pretty demeanor, his heart became disobedient.

”...How could I...” Gu Jinghui said dryly, wishing he could show his heart to his young wife.

”Since you married into the Marquis Mansion, every single thing you’ve done has been for the sake of the Marquis Mansion, in your heart...”

Gu Jinghui suddenly stopped, not continuing, and immediately his neck and earlobes turned red.

He no longer had his usual arrogant and cold demeanor.

Qin Yuan lowered her head without speaking and silently followed Marquis Gu for a while. As they reached Wutong Garden, she let go of his hand and said, ”Yet my husband only favors those two children, neglecting the safety of the whole family, which to me is having a different heart. My husband knows that Sixth Brother and Sixth Sister-in-law are not right, but what’s the difference in what he’s doing?”

Gu Jinghui was thunderstruck, dumbfounded as he looked at Qin Yuan.

Qin Yuan smiled and said, ”Husband, Yuan’er will be waiting in Wutong Garden for good news.”

”...Alright...”

Gu Jinghui was quite disappointed but could only watch as Qin Yuan with her maids entered Wutong Garden.

...

Nanny Rong went straight to Sixth Madam’s courtyard, asking the nanny guarding the door to call Nanny Zhao to the courtyard gate to talk.

Sixth Madam Gu was lying wearily on the couch, weakly asking, ”Why has Nanny Rong come, is there something?”

Nanny Zhao vaguely guessed something, laughed and said, ”Could it be to inquire about the young lady’s condition? Since the madam’s health is poor, it’s better to worry less.”

”Used to worrying,” Sixth Madam Gu sighed, ”I used to manage the household, thinking that everything in the mansion could not do without me, proud yet also a bit annoyed. But now idle, I feel uncomfortable again.”

Nanny Zhao said, ”Madam should really take care of her health, otherwise how will she manage the household in the future.”

Sixth Madam Gu said, ”You go then, don’t just say some comforting words to make me happy, and let Nanny Rong wait too long.”

Nanny Zhao slowly retreated, then hurriedly rushed to the courtyard gate like a gust of wind.

As soon as Nanny Rong saw her, she asked, ”Old Madam heard that Sixth Madam was unwell and specially sent me to inquire about her condition.”

Nanny Zhao’s tears gushed out uncontrollably.

”Nanny Rong, please find a way to save our Sixth Madam. If Sixth Madam were to have something happen, I wouldn’t want to live either.”

Nanny Rong: ”Is Sixth Madam’s condition really so severe?”

Nanny Zhao: ”Sixth Madam’s health is declining day by day, and she refuses to take Doctor Li’s prescriptions, insisting on waiting for an Imperial Physician after officially opening the household. I’ve tried everything to persuade her without success, and now she’s so thin, the wind could blow her away.”

Nanny Rong carefully inquired about Sixth Madam’s condition, finding it exactly as Qin Yuan and others had described, then handed a box to Nanny Zhao and said, ”This is bestowed by Madam to you.”

Nanny Zhao thanked her profusely as she took it.

Nanny Rong asked, ”Is this incense working for Sixth Madam?”

”Of course it’s useful, otherwise we wouldn’t have thick-skinnedly asked Doctor Li for more.”

Nanny Rong nodded and said, ”The aroma matched by Madam is good, Old Madam also finds it very effective, and upon hearing that Sixth Madam needed it due to her illness, Madam immediately had Cui Ming pack a box full and send it over.”

Nanny Zhao asked quietly.

”Is it really prepared by Madam?”

Nanny Rong puzzled, ”How could it be fake? Madam is skilled in aroma matching, the incense you’re using in your courtyard is crafted by Madam.”

Nanny Zhao sighed, ”I never thought Madam had such skill.”

Nanny Rong gave her a glance and said, ”Madam’s skills are not limited to this, you’ll know in time.”

Nanny Zhao nodded perfunctorily.

Nanny Rong further said, ”Go tell Sixth Madam that Sixth Master, upon knowing her condition, immediately petitioned the Marquis, and the Marquis has arranged to invite an Imperial Physician.”

Nanny Zhao was overjoyed and said, ”Thank you, Nanny Rong, thank you Marquis, thank you Sixth Master.”

Nanny Rong thought for a moment and said, ”Go and tell Sixth Madam this, when suffering from this illness, it’s essential to stay at ease, Sixth Master has been concerned about her and the children, lamenting countless times, Sixth Madam’s condition should indeed not be kept secret, everyone is worried for her.”
