My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 234: Chapter 234: Making the Decision

At these words, even Gu Jinghui, who always liked to cause trouble for the Sixth Elder, was momentarily silenced.

The courtyard was sealed, Gu Jingjun couldn’t go in to see, Sixth Madam intentionally kept it secret, and the Sixth Elder indeed had no way.

However, Gu Jinghui easily found an excuse to scold his sixth brother.

”Isn’t it because Sixth Sister-in-law and you are not on good terms? Otherwise, why would she keep it from you.”

Sure enough, Gu Jingjun lowered his head in frustration.

Sixth Master Gu couldn’t help but blame himself, wishing he hadn’t argued with Mrs. Xu across the courtyard wall when he first went to see the two children.

Qin Yuan said, ”Sixth Brother, your third brother is right, this is your family matter, Third Sister-in-law shouldn’t make decisions for you.”

Gu Jinghui looked smugly at Gu Jingjun, whose head was hanging even lower.

Qin Yuan continued, ”However, Third Sister-in-law can help you with ideas.”

Gu Jingjun suddenly raised his head, his gentle peach blossom eyes full of trust, eagerly saying, ”Thank you, Third Sister-in-law. I’ve always heard from Mother and Third Brother that Third Sister-in-law is wise and exceptionally intelligent, now I’m at a loss and urge Third Sister-in-law to speak freely.”

Gu Jinghui’s lips slightly turned down as he looked at Qin Yuan and said, ”Currently, things in the mansion are managed by Madam, perhaps Madam could offer some advice for the overall situation?”

Qin Yuan didn’t shy away, straightforwardly said, ”It’s unclear why Sixth Sister-in-law is unwilling to treat the illness, but this illness probably cannot be delayed any longer. The priority is to quickly find a good doctor for Sixth Sister-in-law to treat the illness. As for other things...”

She paused, ”Not sure what Husband and Sixth Brother intend to do. In my opinion, the matter with Sixth Sister-in-law is not simple. Due to smallpox, the Dingbei Marquis Mansion has been in the limelight. Currently, the Emperor has not held anyone accountable because after sealing the mansion, there haven’t been more cases of smallpox in the Capital City.”

”If here comes a mishap with Sixth Sister-in-law now, the Xu family, already entwined with the Marquis Mansion due to Zhenzhen’s affair, probably won’t end peacefully, and it will leave ill-intentioned people with an opportunity to tarnish the Marquis Mansion.”

Everyone was amazed.

Gu Jinghui frowned deeply.

Sixth Master Gu stamped his foot in annoyance, ”The Xu family really can’t be involved at all.”

Gu Jinghui scolded, ”What’s the point of complaining now? She’s already married and has given birth to so many children for you, just for the children’s sake, you shouldn’t say such things in public.”

It was one thing for brothers to talk, but how could they say such things openly in front of everyone.

Sixth Master Gu closed his mouth in grievance.

Gu Jinghui then reassured, ”I’ll try to bring the Director of Imperial Hospital here to diagnose Sixth Sister-in-law.”

Doctor Li looked inexplicably puzzled.

Sixth Master Gu was incredulous.

”The mansion is still sealed, how could he come?”

Qin Yuan also asked, ”How confident are you, Husband?”

Gu Jinghui impatiently set down the teacup and said, ”If Sixth Sister-in-law had been willing to let Doctor Li diagnose her, there wouldn’t be so much trouble. Now the situation is dire, we can only take this approach. Anyway, the mansion will soon open, inviting him will only mean staying in the mansion for a few more days, I imagine he wouldn’t severely blame me.”

Doctor Li asked, ”Is the Marquis going to force him?”

Marquis Gu didn’t reply, but his attitude of diplomacy first, force second was clear.

Qin Yuan frowned.

Gu Jingjun hesitated, ”Third Brother, the Director of Imperial Hospital is not a regular Imperial Physician.”

Qin Yuan leaned closer to Gu Jinghui and whispered, ”What about Doctor Liu...”

Gu Jinghui paused and said, ”Let’s not worry about that now, we’ll talk once invited; the car will find a way to pass the mountain when it gets there.”

Qin Yuan: ”...”

Doctor Li glanced at Xiao Dong and stomped his foot saying, ”Forget it, instead of this, why not just let me treat her. However, it requires Sixth Master to make a decision.”

”Me?” Sixth Master Gu looked surprised.

Doctor Li nodded, ”Yes. Sixth Madam is your wife; neither the Marquis nor Madam can make decisions for you.”

Sixth Master Gu muttered, ”Mrs. Xu won’t listen to me. If I could make the decision, naturally, I’d hope Doctor Li could diagnose Mrs. Xu and have her take medicine seriously, instead of being suspicious and paranoid.”

Gu Jinghui thoughtfully looked at Doctor Li.

Doctor Li said, ”Currently, Sixth Madam’s illness cannot be delayed. To speak frankly, with the way Sixth Madam’s symptoms have dragged on, there are probably no more than three people in all of Daxing who can cure her.”

”What about you?” Marquis Gu quickly asked.

Doctor Li hesitated and said, ”I can only prescribe medicine for her to slowly recuperate. Whether Dingbei Marquis Mansion can find a famous doctor to cure Sixth Madam depends on the future.”

After a pause, he added confidently, ”Earlier when diagnosing, I advised Sixth Madam to cultivate herself and worry less, not to be competitive, but it seems she didn’t listen. However, I didn’t expect Sixth Madam to become so seriously ill.”

Sixth Master Gu said, ”Then...”

Doctor Li was too lazy to listen to his babble, directly said, ”Sixth Master might as well think of a way to have Nanny Zhao help Sixth Madam drink the medicine I prescribed, to hold on until the mansion opens, then invite a better doctor; what do you think, Sixth Master?”

Sixth Master Gu hesitated, ”I...”

Qin Yuan interjected, ”Why not have Nanny Zhao tell Sixth Sister-in-law that the Marquis invited an Imperial Physician from outside to diagnose her. This Imperial Physician can just be a guard wearing an unfamiliar face.”

”Then how will Doctor Li prescribe the medicine?” Gu Jinghui asked.

Qin Yuan said, ”It’s simple. Have Nanny Zhao give Sixth Madam some calming soup, wait till she sleeps, then let Doctor Li take the pulse and prescribe.”

Gu Jinghui immediately said, ”Let’s do that.”

Qin Yuan looked at Gu Jingjun.

Gu Jingjun breathed a sigh of relief, immediately said, ”Third Sister-in-law’s idea is insightful, let’s proceed.”

Gu Jinghui sharply looked over and said, ”Sixth Brother, remember, this is your decision, don’t blame others later.”

Sixth Master Gu twitched his lips and said, ”Third Brother, Third Sister-in-law, Doctor Li, if I weren’t at a loss now, I could’ve figured out a solution myself. I understand the rights and wrongs clearly. If Mrs. Xu were easy to deal with, it wouldn’t have dragged on to this extent. In the end, it all depends on Mrs. Xu’s fate.”

”As long as you understand,” Gu Jinghui glanced at Sixth Brother, pondered, but said nothing more.

After the discussion, they went to the upper room to inform Old Madam Gu.

Old Madam Gu was shocked after hearing it.

”How could this be? Weren’t they saying the two children were almost well? How...” She thought for a moment and said, ”You all go ahead and prepare. I’ll have Nanny Rong inquire.”

Leaving the upper room, Sixth Master Gu complained, ”What else does Mother have to ask? Isn’t it obvious that Mrs. Xu is overthinking and unwilling to see a doctor...”

Gu Jinghui glared at Sixth Master Gu, ”Who wouldn’t be careful? Didn’t you understand what your Third Sister-in-law said? Truly.”

As he spoke, he took Qin Yuan’s small hand and walked forward.

Gu Jinghui’s lips curled slightly; he had waited a long time for this moment.

Qin Yuan: ”...”

The disregarded Sixth Master Gu: ”...”

Doctor Li seemed to have seen nothing and silently walked past with Xiao Dong.

Only Gu Shiliu, caught off guard, was held by the grumbling Sixth Master Gu, ”Sixteen, come judge for me.”
