My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 181: Chapter 181: The Servant Who Doesn’t Know What’s Good for Him

Qin Yuan saw her like this and thought that Doctor Li’s words might not convince Sixth Lady Gu.

The oblivious Doctor Li continued, ”If Madam were a man, she could climb high and see far, go boating or hiking, but as a woman, her activities are somewhat restricted. However, Marquis Mansion has large courtyards and many sceneries; taking more walks is good. Nowadays, the customs are open, and many women from ordinary families form clubs to go out and have fun, some even make trips to Wudang Mountain to worship Buddha.”

Nanny Zhao clicked her tongue and said, ”The Marquis Mansion is not a small household, you can’t be that casual. At most, you can stroll around the streets, or walk in the courtyard. During festivals, you can visit temples or Taoist shrines for outings like spring walks or snow watching, but you still need to inform other masters in the mansion, you can’t just go out and play by yourself.”

Once you go out, it becomes a big affair, bustling around to settle the whole family, and there’s no interest left.

The two talked lively while Sixth Lady Gu remained silent, letting Doctor Li write the prescription before she said indifferently, ”Thank you, Doctor Li.”

Doctor Li had just had a conversation with Qin Yuan about the methods of preventing illness and said, ”I need to check everyone else in the courtyard, moreover, the clothes of those who have come in close contact with patients must be boiled with medicinal water, do not slack off in the slightest. Don’t let the little masters get well while others get sick, if it drags on for a long time, it will greatly harm the vitality, and the health will be ruined.”

Sixth Lady Gu said, ”Since Doctor Li said so, then please trouble yourself.”

Nanny Zhao hurried to gather the maids and nannies in the courtyard, setting up a table for Doctor Li to diagnose conveniently.

Xiao Dong and Qin Yuan stood by to accompany them.

Qin Yuan was watching Doctor Li diagnose when she felt someone tugging at her sleeve. She thought Xiao Dong had something to say, but when she turned, it was Nanny Zhao.

Qin Yuan: ”?”

Nanny Zhao whispered, ”Come with me for a moment.”

Qin Yuan: ”...”

Nanny Zhao saw she didn’t move and was a bit displeased, relying on her seniority, she said, ”Sixth Madam has something to ask you. You better be sensible and speak well.”

Qin Yuan wished she could cover her face with her sleeve and escape using an Earth Escape Technique.

Nanny Zhao saw the servant being unperceptive and was about to lose her temper.

Then Xiao Dong spoke up, ”Nanny, it seems my master is calling you for something urgent.”

Nanny Zhao left with a dark face but not before giving Qin Yuan a fierce glare, muttering something under her breath. Although it was unclear, one could guess she was cursing her.

Qin Yuan breathed a sigh of relief, but staying like this wasn’t a solution.

Nanny Zhao, with this idea in mind, would seize the chance to inquire about the affairs in the mansion.

Xiao Dong said, ”Big Bro, please get the medicine my master prepared; it’s kept in the house, guarded by another elder brother. My master made this medicine yesterday; taking it can prevent illness.”

Qin Yuan nodded.

Doctor Li glanced over while instructing Nanny Zhao to burn all the clothes previously used by the little young ladies and replace them with clean ones, also asking about some other trivial matters.

By the time Nanny Zhao had some free time, the person was already gone.

Xiao Dong slapped his forehead, seemingly remembering something suddenly, saying, ”Master, did you put the prepared medicine in the medicine box?”

Doctor Li replied, ”Yes.”

Xiao Dong exclaimed regretfully, ”Oh no, I got it mixed up. Master packed it without telling me; I even instructed that elder brother to help get the medicine. Who knows how long it’ll take going back and forth, let’s quickly divide the pills and catch up with him.”

Doctor Li complained, ”You muddle-headed child.”

The two worked together to distribute a pill to each person, instructing that it should be swallowed with water half an hour after a meal to enhance one’s constitution, expel toxins, and prevent illness.

Everyone received theirs.

Doctor Li, along with Xiao Dong, took their leave, and Nanny Zhao had a little maid escort them out of the courtyard before she went to find Sixth Lady Gu to talk, saying, ”That servant following along is quite insensible, dumb even, no idea whose child he is.”

Sixth Lady Gu asked, ”Haven’t you found out anything?”

Nanny Zhao shook her head and said, ”Didn’t have time. Seeing him so slow-witted, even if called up for a talk, nothing could be extracted from him. I’ll wait until someone delivers the medicine and then inquire.”

Sixth Lady Gu said, ”I guess we’ll have to. That servant does seem somewhat familiar, but I can’t recall where I’ve seen him.”

Nanny Zhao replied, ”There is a likeness in everyone. Maybe he used to serve beside the Marquis, seen him somewhere unknowingly, even I find his appearance familiar.”

Sixth Lady Gu didn’t bother to spend her energy on a mere servant and said, ”Perhaps.”

Nanny Zhao added, ”I think Doctor Li possesses some real skills. Aunt Huang mentioned Qin looks much healthier than before; let’s see after the medicine is brewed.”

Sixth Lady Gu said nothing.

Nanny Zhao continued, ”If the little masters show improvement, the madam might want to heed Doctor Li’s advice not to exhaust herself. As the saying goes, as long as there are green hills, there’s no fear of running out of firewood. Please relax and focus on your health.”

Sixth Lady Gu sneered, ”No wonder Sixth Master has so many children and still attracts affection; it turns out he’s relaxing every day.”

Hearing this tone, Nanny Zhao thought to herself that Sixth Lady Gu seemed to harbor resentment towards Sixth Master.

She couldn’t elaborate further and changed the topic, ”According to Doctor Li, it seems even women can travel afar to enjoy scenic sights, which used to be a man’s privilege. In the future, madam might also benefit from going out more often.”

Sixth Lady Gu said, ”Are we supposed to go boating, compose poetry, and court prostitutes next?”

Nanny Zhao fell silent.

Sixth Lady Gu leisurely said, ”Let’s observe Doctor Li’s skills. What he said might be a ploy by my dear third sister-in-law. Didn’t you hear about their connection? Otherwise, how could the Marquis donate a thousand taels of silver to an unknown medical hall?”

Nanny Zhao hadn’t considered this possibility and was stunned, asking, ”Then... should the little young ladies still take his medicine?”

Sixth Lady Gu replied, ”In matters of life and death, since he has boasted, I suppose he won’t dare to err, but I...”

But she certainly wouldn’t believe Doctor Li’s nonsense and abandon her health regimen.

Nanny Zhao hesitantly said, ”Indeed, madam has become noticeably thinner, what he said was rather apt. Why not try his medicine first, and as for the rest, ignore it. When the mansion is officially opened, we’ll request a competent Imperial Physician to see you.”

Sixth Lady Gu said, ”Let’s see.”

Nanny Zhao dared not persuade further. Sixth Lady Gu was already suspicious by nature, and she had previously tripped Qin Yuan, inevitably leading to further suspicions.
