My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Leading Everyone to Prosperity

Qin Yuan said with a smile, ”You just stay at the mansion peacefully, the Marquis will take good care of you. You’re still young, it’s good to know your mistakes and correct them. If you make progress in the future, the Marquis will also be pleased.”

Sister Yu’s eyes were red and swollen from crying, looking at her in confusion, while Brother Cheng bit his lip and nodded lightly.

Among these two children, Brother Cheng obviously has more opinion and can adapt to circumstances.

Qin Yuan thought, if this child takes the right path in the future, he might achieve something significant.

It’s just that she didn’t know what his parents’ background was.

The current dynasty is very strict with household registration. Ancestors who have committed crimes, or parents who are actors, criminals, servants, constables, forensic doctors, entertainers, etc., cannot participate in the imperial examinations.

In the future, Sister Yu’s marriage will also be affected.

What Qin Yuan thought of, Old Madam Gu and Nanny Rong also considered, inevitably sighing in their hearts and feeling more disgusted with Lady Zhao. Leaving like this, where exactly does this place the two children?

Qiujie and others have already served breakfast, and everyone gathered their spirits to sit down and eat quietly.

After the meal, Nanny Zhao from Sixth Madam’s side came, saying that Sixth Madam interrogated the gatekeeper nanny. The nanny swore she hadn’t closed her eyes all night and didn’t dare to leave her post, genuinely not seeing Lady Zhao leave.

Sixth Madam needs to take care of two sick children, so she hasn’t come personally to report.

Qin Yuan then learned that Aunt Huang and Sixth Madam’s two girls had both broken out in measles this morning and had it confirmed by the Imperial Physician. Sixth Madam is busy cleansing the room to invite the Measles Goddess.

This startled Old Madam Gu, who quickly asked Brother Cheng and Sister Yu, ”Did you have measles when you were little?”

Brother Cheng and Sister Yu couldn’t remember.

No one around to serve them, Lady Zhao ran off, no one knows, which made Old Madam Gu angry, patting her leg, saying, ”I’m telling you to be careful, if you catch it, it’s fatal. If any adults haven’t had it, they should be careful too.”

Qin Yuan asked, ”Mother, you’re not afraid now, are you?”

Old Madam Gu said, ”I’m not afraid; all the children have had it. Once you’ve had it, you won’t have it again in the future. Have you?”

Qin Yuan laughed, ”I’ve had it.”

Not only had she had it, but her maids had too.

Old Madam Gu was relieved and told Sister Yu, ”If you’re not feeling well, remember to tell an adult and quickly get a doctor to check. Otherwise, if you break out in measles, it’s very itchy, and if you accidentally scratch them open, it leaves pits, and when you grow up you become pockmarked, which isn’t nice.”

Sister Yu, already mindful of beauty, was startled and immediately forgot about Lady Zhao and the nanny.

Brother Cheng agreed and repeatedly promised not to run around, not to catch a chill, and if he feels uncomfortable, he’ll quickly shout for a doctor.

Qin Yuan sat for a while, and not seeing Gu Jinghui coming, she got up to say her goodbyes.

Old Madam Gu was worn out and also wanted to rest.

Leaving the upper room, Hong Ye commented, ”I didn’t expect Young Master Cheng to be so savvy.”

It was only a few days in the upper room, yet his attitude had changed so much.

Qin Yuan said, ”No one taught him before, but now someone is guiding him, without his previous confidence, naturally he’s changed. Have Xiao Hong keep a closer eye on those two.”

Hong Ye pondered for a moment and then asked, ”Miss, do you feel there’s something wrong with Young Master Cheng?”

Qin Yuan said, ”Not really, I’m just worrying unnecessarily. He was originally exalted by others, and suddenly his mother’s whereabouts are unknown, his father’s identity unclear, it’s inevitable he’d be a bit radical. Moreover...”

Qin Yuan lowered her voice, ”What if Lady Zhao sends someone back to find them?”

It’s hard to predict what the intentions might be.

Hong Ye understood and nodded, ”So Miss is thinking of the Marquis.”

Qin Yuan said, ”The Marquis and I are one as husband and wife, his dignity is also mine.”

Conversely, if the Marquis falls into misfortune, how can she maintain her appearance?

Cui Ming furrowed her brows, ”Where exactly did Lady Zhao go? Why was she so eager to leave? Is she hiding some significant secret?”

Qin Yuan said, ”I’ve thought about that too, but it’s inconvenient to ask. Judging by mother’s appearance, it seems she knows something.”

In Wutong Garden, the housekeeper mothers have been waiting for a long time. Seeing Qin Yuan, they said, ”Madam has returned.”

Qin Yuan nodded, ”I stayed a while longer in the upper room today, making you all wait.”

The housekeeper mothers understood the situation immediately, saying, ”No matter, no matter.”

Hong Mian deftly organized the other little maids to bring tables and chairs under the tree shade, opened silken umbrellas, set up tea and snacks, and handed over the attendance book, even more efficient and active than Hong Ye.

Hong Ye: ”...”

How did she suddenly understand the things miss said?

Qin Yuan slowly sat down and asked, ”Do you have anything to report today?”

The housekeeper mothers reported daily trivial matters, only Mrs. Li from the sewing room asked, ”When Lady Zhao resided in the Marquis Mansion before, her seasonal clothing was still being made; should this continue?”

Everyone looked over, with a sense of wanting to see how Qin Yuan would handle it.

Qin Yuan said, ”Let’s put it aside for now. Lady Zhao has been sick all this time, there’s no need to make clothes for now. When she’s well, we can make up for her clothes then.”

Mrs. Li’s lips moved as if she wanted to say something.

Mrs. Lu standing by sneered coolly, ”Do you think Madam is someone like you?”

Mrs. Li glared at Mrs. Lu but didn’t respond.

Qin Yuan knew they wouldn’t have peace between them and didn’t bother with their matters. Gu Jinghui hadn’t returned, Lady Zhao’s issue wasn’t concluded, she wouldn’t make any statement.

Another housekeeper mother joked and asked about the pepper matter.

Qin Yuan frowned, looking troubled, ”Currently, the Capital City’s pepper is high-priced with no market, and the Prince Qi Mansion seems to have directed the merchants temporarily not to sell pepper but to inquire at high prices. Gu the Seventeenth has gone to other locations to investigate. If you have other places where money is needed, tell Hong Ye, and withdraw shares accordingly. My source for pepper isn’t certain to succeed.”

The housekeeper mothers quickly gestured, ”No worries, no worries, just asking.”

Qin Yuan knew they must have heard something privately to be so inquisitive, she winked at Hong Ye, ”Since you have no issues, I’ll go rest; the sun is too strong, dazzling my eyes.”

After she returned to the main room, Hong Ye told Hong Mian, ”You’re a native child, there are things I can’t inquire about, ask them if they’ve heard anything.”

Hong Mian, realizing the hint, eagerly went to gather information.

Cui Ming just chuckled seeing this.

Hong Ye said, ”Why are you laughing? I’ve cultivated one, what about yours?”

Cui Ming said, ”You’re too impatient. How long has Miss been married into the Marquis Mansion? Take it one step at a time; haste makes waste. I’ll sort out things in the sewing room first.”

Soon after, Hong Mian got the news, pulling Hong Ye aside and whispered, ”Nanny Zhao from Sixth Madam’s side told them about a chance to make money, saying Sixth Madam’s family has an opportunity to purchase pepper, asking them if they’d like to invest.”
