Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Not Only Deciding the Stronger but Also Life and Death

”Hello, I am the Commander-in-Chief of the Jiangnan War Department, Xiao Jiu!”

At the moment, the authoritative man stood up from his seat and proactively extended his hand towards Lin Dong.

The Southern King Xiao Jiu, during his youth, was also an expert of the Tiger Rankings, ranking tenth at the age of twenty-eight! He overshadowed the same generation of Jiangnan Martial Arts experts.

Now at forty-two, he is a ’Peak Mystic Realm’ expert, ranked thirty-fifth on the Dragon Rankings!

Commanding the Jiangnan War Department, he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Jiangnan War Department!

He was Ye Linglong’s discoverer, acting as half a master to her, and it was he who had recruited Ye Linglong into the War Department!

When Lin Dong was in Jianghai, he had also heard his name, a presence at the apex of the Jiangnan Province’s pyramid of power.

However, Lin Dong did not lose momentum because of this, standing neither servile nor overbearing, he extended his hand and shook with him.

”Southern King, for what matter did you invite this kid to the War Department this time?”

After shaking hands with him, Lin Dong directly and straightforwardly asked.

He could naturally tell that Ye Linglong’s invitation for him to come to the War Department was clearly prompted by this Southern King Xiao Jiu.

”Hahaha, young friend Lin Dong truly is a straightforward person, worthy of being someone who, at a young age, could master internal force and step into the ranks of the Mystic Realm Experts. I enjoy speaking with people like you who have a direct nature.”

”Then I will just cut to the chase, the reason I had Linglong invite young friend Lin Dong to the War Department is my own doing.”

”Our War Department wants to recruit young friend Lin Dong.”

”If young friend Lin Dong is willing to join the War Department, then we are willing to offer the position of Southern Capital’s Army Chief!”

The position of the Southern Capital’s Army Chief is even a rank higher than Ye Linglong’s current position!

In the entire Jiangnan War Department, it ranks within the top five!

Offering this position demonstrates the War Department’s high regard for Lin Dong.

The reason for this determination also lies in the fact that they learned Lin Dong was only twenty years old, capable of beating Ye Linglong, and able to use internal force. Such strength, it wouldn’t be difficult for him to rank within the top twenty of the Tiger Rankings!

Most importantly, he is still young—only twenty years old.

Considering the Tiger Rankings are updated every three years, and one must be under thirty to be eligible for the rankings, he had the opportunity to compete in three Tiger Rankings. During these attempts, he completely had the chance to strive for the first place in the Tiger Rankings!

At this time, Ye Linglong was also looking at Lin Dong with an expectant face:

”Master Lin, join our War Department.

”With your potential, your prospects in the War Department are limitless!”

Yet, faced with the recruitment efforts of the Southern King Xiao Jiu and Ye Linglong from the War Department, Lin Dong pondered for a long while before shaking his head in the end.

He refused respectfully, ”Southern King, thank you for your generous love for this kid. However, I am used to being free and unrestrained and fear I would not get accustomed to life in the War Department.”

”Therefore, please forgive me for not being able to join the War Department.”

With his statement, the face of Southern King Xiao Jiu didn’t look good.

It was a pity to have such a talent not join the War Department.

But he couldn’t force others against their will, so he said:

”Don’t be in a hurry to refuse, you can think it over properly first.”

Lin Dong nodded and didn’t close off the conversation entirely.

At this point, Southern King Xiao Jiu shifted the topic to the upcoming duel between Lin Dong and Liu Qingshan in seven days.

”The matter of your duel with Liu Qingshan has also spread in Jiangnan’s Martial Arts Circle. Is this duel intended to be a decisive battle of life and death?”

”If it is to decide life and death, then a Martial Arbiter must be involved!”

”Beforehand, you need to sign a ’Life-and-Death Certificate’. The Martial Arbiter will bear witness!”

Southern King Xiao Jiu’s words left Lin Dong somewhat puzzled, ”Martial Arbiters, what is this organization?”

Xiao Jiu seemed surprised, ”You don’t even know about the Martial Arbiters?”

Ye Linglong explained to Xiao Jiu, ”Southern King, Lin Dong has always lived in the mountains, and although his martial arts strength is profound, he is unfamiliar with the outside Martial Arts World. Even before, he was unclear about the realms of our Martial Arts Circle.”

”Even things like the Dragon Rankings, Tiger Rankings, were things I had to explain for him to understand.”

”I see,” Xiao Jiu nodded, ”Linglong, then explain to young friend Lin Dong again. What are the Martial Arbiters!”

Ye Lingling affirmed, ”Martial Arbiters are the largest Martial Arts Association in our Dragon Country Martial Arts World, similar to your Western Medicine Association for doctors!”

”Once you reach the strength of a Gold Realm Expert, you can apply to join!”

”Our Jiangnan branch of Martial Arbiters already has over five hundred official members, and there are only three directors!”

”These three directors are our War Department’s Southern King, the Leader of Jiangnan Division of Longmen, Bai Zhonglou, and the representative of the Wushu Expert Loose Cultivator, Li Gucheng.”

”Normally, we in the Dragon Country’s Martial Arts World don’t advocate infighting among martial artists. However, if the conflict between two martial artists has reached an irreconcilable point, they can apply for a duel with the Martial Arbiters.”

”The duels include ’a matter of victory until the point is reached’ and ’deciding both superiority and life and death’!”

”If one chooses the former method of duel and ends up killing the other, the Martial Arbiters will arbitrate against the killer!”

”If the latter is chosen, then the Martial Arbiters are only responsible for dealing with the corpse!”

”Of course, the role of Martial Arbiters is not just this. They also serve to constrain martial artists. Martial artists possess power far beyond that of common people; if there are those who collude with Foreign Forces or commit numerous evils, the Martial Arbiters will also arbitrate against them...”

After listening to Ye Linglong’s explanation, Lin Dong nodded, gaining some understanding of Martial Arbiters.

At this time, Southern King Xiao Jiu asked again, ”So which type of duel do you intend to choose for your fight with Liu Qingshan?”

Lin Dong didn’t hesitate and slowly uttered eight words:

”A duel that decides both superiority and life and death!”
