Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 80 : The Essentials of Flying

“Right Your posture is perfect, but don’t be so stiff. Relax a bit.”

The senior placed her hand on my shoulder, soothing my nervous tension.

“Now, let’s learn how to make the broom fly.”

After deciding I was ready for the next step, Tu Qingxue placed her hand on the head of the broom’s pole.

“But since you’re a freshman, Little Han, your mental strength isn’t strong enough to control magic power yet, so flying is a bit tricky. If you could control magic power, handling the broom would be as natural as moving your own arm.”

“Ahem… I said too much. Let’s talk about how to use it. A flying broom is an alchemical product, so there’s naturally a way to control it. Now, hold the pole with both hands.”

“Mm…”

I followed her instructions, but before Tu Qingxue could say the next step, I felt a surge from the magic power source within my body.

Good grief, my mental strength had no control over this magic power, yet an alchemical product could make it surge like this?

Was that even fair?

“Did you feel the magic power surging? That’s normal. The broom’s pole is embedded with magic-conducting material, so it can naturally guide your magic power. Combined with its internal alchemical structure, it easily draws out your magic.”

Seeing my reaction, Senior Tu Qingxue quickly explained.

Her finger pointed to the pole, and if I hadn’t looked closely, I wouldn’t have noticed the special threads embedded in it, blending almost perfectly with the wood grain.

“The key is not to deliberately block this guidance. Your mental strength may not be able to control magic power, but interrupting this process is easy.”

As she spoke, Tu Qingxue seemed to remember something and continued explaining.

“I need to tell you this: you can’t be nervous while riding a broom. No matter what, don’t panic. If you flinch and your mental strength disrupts the magic output, the broom could lose control!”

“Of course, if you’re rich enough to buy a broom with a magic storage unit, that’s an option too. But the experience is pretty bad. A broom is supposed to be lightweight, and carrying a storage block looks awful no matter how it’s designed. Plus, it feels clunky to use, worse than carrying another person.”

“Mm… mm…”

I listened halfheartedly, focusing more on the sensation of the broom.

As magic power flowed in, the broom seemed to come alive.

My mental strength threads scanned the entire broom.

I couldn’t help but marvel that this was indeed an alchemical product.

Under the sweep of my mental strength, I felt something indescribable.

If I had to describe it, it was like a “mental strength interface,” as if my mental strength could connect here to gain control over the broom.

“Injecting magic power is just the first step. That activates the alchemical broom. The most important part is mental strength. Oh, right, Little Han, you’re a freshman. Is your mental strength strong enough? I don’t expect mental strength threads, but you should at least be able to project your mental strength, right?”

As she spoke, Tu Qingxue suddenly realized a serious issue.

If she started teaching only to find the new student wasn’t qualified to learn flying, that would be embarrassing.

And Bai Yu hadn’t mentioned anything about this.

That would be an awkward mistake.

Her gaze turned to me, filled with concern.

If it really didn’t work, I’d have to study theoretical knowledge instead.

“Of course I can.”

I answered confidently but didn’t specify what I could do.

There was no need to tell everyone about mental strength threads.

That kind of bragging might rub people the wrong way.

It was better to share with someone I was closer to.

“Phew That’s good, that’s good”

Tu Qingxue let out a relieved laugh.

“Otherwise, you’d have to go study theoretical knowledge on your own.”

“Don’t worry, Senior. Sister Bai recommended me, so I naturally have the qualifications to learn. I won’t make things hard for you.”

I said at the right moment.

“That Bai Yu actually has a conscience for once. Alright, let’s move on. Since you can project your mental strength, do it now and sense the alchemical broom. Do you feel any special nodes?”

“That’s the mental strength interface in the alchemical product, or you could call it an access point. It’s the hub for controlling the alchemical product with your mental strength. Connect with it, and you can control it.”

“Mm… I’ve already sensed it.”

I nodded.

I had instinctively sensed it before she even mentioned it, so I found it quickly.

“Oh? That fast? That saves me a lot of explaining. With my vocabulary, I wouldn’t even know how to describe that process.”

Tu Qingxue raised an eyebrow, giving a nod of approval for my efficiency.

Then, with a wave of her hand, I felt a fluctuation of transcendent energy.

She was casting a spell.

I was slightly surprised as I sensed the spell’s effects.

Combined with what she had told me earlier, this must be the protective spell.

Getting a spell cast before even starting to fly.

What kind of treatment was this?

“Since you’ve sensed it, let’s give it a try. Start slowly. Don’t zoom off and disappear; that’s practically asking for trouble. Take it little by little, okay?”

“Mm… I’ll try…”

I said hesitantly.

As my magic power flowed steadily and my mental strength threads teased the broom’s “hub,” I felt a force rising between my thighs from the broom’s pole.

I instinctively thought the pole would be uncomfortable, but then I felt a gentle force supporting my hips, like sitting on a soft cushion.

It was magical.

My eyes widened.

I hadn’t expected a mere alchemical broom to have such a feature.

This design was amazing.

Riding a thin pole versus sitting on a soft cushion were completely different experiences.

“Looks like you’ve felt it. Isn’t it amazing? If the broom wasn’t comfortable, it wouldn’t be the mainstream travel tool for witches. Though tradition plays a big part too.”

Seeing my slight change in expression, Tu Qingxue smiled and explained.

“Also, go slow. Don’t go too fast or too high!”

“Mm…”

I felt the broom’s lift was enough to raise me, but I couldn’t bring myself to fully lift my feet off the ground.

Even this small movement made me feel unsteady, like I might fall.

And I noticed the broom was wobbling a bit.

“Steady yourself. If you feel like you can’t lift off, raise it a bit more. Lean forward slightly to lower your center of gravity. Try lifting both feet off the ground.”

Following her instructions, I managed to get both feet off the ground, but the unfamiliarity of controlling it made me quickly plant my feet back down.

“It’s okay. This is how beginners start. Let’s take it easy and just focus on hovering in place for now.”

“Yes! Like that, bend your knees and tuck them back. Focus to reduce the wobbling.”
