As the call ended, I felt a weight lift from my heart.

That must be the sense of security Bai Yu brought.

Knowing she was coming soon, I stopped panicking.

Though the battle’s aftershocks continued outside, I could calmly find a place to sit.

I also tidied up the bread baskets that had tilted from the vibrations.

Meanwhile, in the sky, a standoff had formed between two sides.

It wasn’t a peaceful face-to-face argument, though.

Spells were being hurled and countered.

One misstep, and you’d be engulfed by terrifying magic.

Of course, both sides didn’t hold back on verbal sparring either—taunts were an essential part of the fight.

“I’ll say it one last time: hand over Tan Han!”

That was the most repeated demand from the other side, led by a student from Holy Angel Academy.

Their voice was hard to pin as male or female, but their appearance leaned feminine, though their flat chest suggested otherwise.

Holy Angel Academy students hovered in midair, white wings spread behind them, though they weren’t flapping.

Clearly, their flight had little to do with aerodynamics.

Even more striking than their wings were the massive wing-shaped projections extending from them, with holy power manifesting as white feathers falling from the sky.

A faint halo floated above their heads, radiating holy energy that continuously empowered them.

“Laughable. You couldn’t even snatch her, and now you’re ganging up to invade our academy?

Are you that eager to join the Witch Academy?”

The leading senior sister from our Witch Academy responded boldly, her tone dripping with mockery, prompting laughter from the surrounding senior sisters.

The loudest laugh came from Xia Li, the bakery’s manager.

Yes, that Xia Li.

If Ying Shiqian hadn’t held her back, she might’ve been even more unrestrained.

She loved watching Holy Angel Academy students get humiliated.

As for Witch Academy’s Curtain Wall being breached, it wasn’t a big deal.

It got damaged every couple of years—everyone was used to it.

It could be repaired.

But luring these naive Holy Angel Academy students onto Witch Academy’s turf?

They wouldn’t leave unscathed.

If Xia Li didn’t clip a few of those bird people’s wings today, she probably wouldn’t sleep well tonight.

The situation was primed for a group battle.

From this moment, the ones who should be afraid weren’t our side but the Holy Angel Academy students.

And those Wizard Academy students who came to join the fun?

They’d pay a price for spectating.

They realized it too, but as the saying goes, the arrow was nocked and had to be fired.

They’d thrown out their threats and bravado—worst case, they’d just “die and revive.”

After all, the person they were protecting, this year’s top student, had already been taken.

And by that infuriating Xia Li, no less.

She was notorious at Holy Angel Academy, not the strongest, but ruthless, especially toward them.

She never missed a chance to make Holy Angel Academy suffer.

A real menace—everyone feared her.

Especially those red velvet cakes she sent…

They were delicious and famous, but at Holy Angel Academy, they were practically taboo.

No one dared sell them anymore.

Receiving a red velvet cake at Holy Angel Academy was enough to make you cry.

They were expensive—equivalent to a revival spell!

This time, while escorting Tan Han, this Holy Angel student received a whole red velvet cake.

It made their hair stand on end, and then Xia Li outmaneuvered them.

Now Tan Han was in her hands—a living person.

Taking her back was nearly impossible.

Returning to Holy Angel Academy would mean facing endless gossip.

They’d messed up, despite their earlier promises.

So, the most sensible option was to “die and go back.”

What couldn’t be smoothed over with a single sacrifice?

For senior students, dying and reviving once wasn’t a big deal.

They’d done their best and paid with their lives.

Even if people talked, it wouldn’t be too harsh.

That’s why they were still here—one side willing to fight, the other willing to take the hit.

Inside the bakery, I saw the glass door pushed open, and a familiar figure hurried in.

“Bai Yu, over here”

I waved and called out as soon as I saw her.

“Xiao Han.”

Drawn by my voice, she walked straight toward me.

“You okay? Not hurt, right?”

“Don’t worry, I’m fine,” I replied warmly, touched by her concern.

“Good.”

Bai Yu grabbed my wrist, checking for injuries, then sat down beside me.

“Xiao Han, why’d you pick this place for a part-time job?”

“It’s close to my dorm, and the pay’s good!”

I answered without hesitation.

Those two reasons were enough, weren’t they?

“Xiao Han, if you’re short on cash, you can tell me. I can introduce you to some good jobs. Do you know what this bakery’s really about?”

“No need to trouble you, Bai Yu. I’m actually pretty happy here, and they cover meals. As for the shop, I roughly know what’s going on. The senior sisters haven’t hidden much, and I don’t mind.”

I reassured Bai Yu.

I knew she was just worried about my safety, but I wasn’t too concerned.

What was happening outside was a clear reminder that danger was everywhere.

I couldn’t shy away from this job just because it might bring trouble.

Since I’d already stepped into the supernatural world, I’d eventually master power and use it to protect myself.

Being overly sheltered was useless; it only bred incompetence.

I knew my situation.

Compared to others, I was at the bottom.

If I kept going like this, I might not even complete the program!

I was determined to graduate from Witch Academy.

I wanted to become a supernatural witch and explore a higher world, even if I didn’t yet know what “transcendental” meant or if that higher world even existed.

But that didn’t stop me from setting this goal.
