Chapter 1690: Chapter 1022: Kawasaki Jun’s Situation

“Decelerate!”

On the ship, General Keen picked up the intercom and ordered.

Kawazaki Shun was silently surprised at the side; the other side was actually slowing down at this moment.

They were almost approaching the island.

General Keen picked up the binoculars and observed the island again.

There were no defense arrays on the island, nor any obvious buildings.

It looked lush and green, with many mutant plants, tall and sturdy, demonstrating much life force despite the storm’s assault.

General Keen frowned and said, “Could it be an uninhabited island?”

Kawazaki hurriedly replied, “That’s unlikely; with land resources so scarce now, how could there be empty land?”

General Keen nodded slightly, acknowledging the point.

Now there’s not even an empty spot on bigger boats, let alone land.

In this flood-submerged world, any carrier able to float on water had become exceedingly precious.

It’s unlikely to be uninhabited.

Such an island, clearly above sea level, would definitely have people seeking refuge there.

“Either they built a shelter underground or hidden it away,”

General Keen ordered, “We are already very close. Issue my command to activate the defense shield.”

With his order, the fleet ships activated their shields to prevent a sneak attack from the island.

The fleet moved quickly; within minutes, the island that had seemed so distant was drawing closer.

They could even see the island’s plants with the naked eye.

Approximately several kilometers from the island, the fleet rapidly stopped.

General Keen said, “Kawazaki, I’m entrusting the task of exploring the island to you. Don’t think of running away—I still have your family and your floating island.”

Kawazaki Shun felt his heart leap, a flicker of anger in his eyes.

This was a threat.

Every time there was a dangerous mission, General Keen would have him and his people go first to investigate.

After clearing the danger and confirming no risk, then the Lighthouse Country people land.

In short, all the dangerous tasks were theirs to do.

Yet all benefits had nothing to do with them—all would be taken by Keen’s people, not leaving a cent behind.

However, they dared not show any dissatisfaction.

Because the family of Ooshima Hidehira, who abandoned his family and floating island, was completely exterminated by these Lighthouse people because one person fled!

They were wiped off completely, leaving not a soul, young or old!

This made all Japanese people feel terrified.

It was as if they were reliving the fear from that world-class war when two atomic bombs were dropped by the Lighthouse Country.

Japanese innate weaknesses were fully exposed.

They feared intimidation rather than virtue, with a gene for admiring strength rooted deeply in their blood.

So despite his anger, Kawazaki dared not show any defiance, not even an angry expression.

Yet their nation were a bunch of ingrained white-eyed wolves.

Given a chance, they would surely retaliate furiously.

Unfortunately, those white people of Keen were not merciful and kind either.

Always treating these Japanese as tools, never giving them a chance!

Until all these Japanese were dead, General Keen would completely forget them.

Because in his eyes, these Japanese were nothing but consumables, not people.

“Rest assured, General Keen, we guarantee to complete the mission!”

Despite the anger in his heart, Kawazaki still exhibited a proud demeanor, agreeing quickly.

General Keen laughed heartily, saying, “Excellent, Kawazaki, that’s the spirit, go ahead.”

He reached out to ruffle Kawazaki’s head affectionately.

The gesture was like rewarding a trained hunting dog.

Kawazaki felt even angrier, but dared not say much, forcing a smile to show happiness.

Then General Keen had a speedboat lowered, and Kawazaki and his men quickly boarded it.

Not only Kawazaki’s Japanese, but also two soldiers from the Lighthouse Country accompanied them.

Even when sending the hunting dogs to catch prey, the hunters must follow.

Otherwise, the dogs might sneak a bite of the prey themselves.

General Keen evidently understood this very well.

As for whether these dogs would bite back, General Keen didn’t concern himself.

For should those two Lighthouse Country soldiers suffer any harm or death, General Keen would unhesitatingly slaughter all these dogs, intimidating all Japanese!

Kawazaki understood this too, knowing even if all his people died, these two soldiers must not perish.

Otherwise, they’d face a dead end too upon returning.

As the speedboat accelerated, the kilometers quickly closed.

Sea waves slapped against coastal stones; trees once visible underwater were now barely recognizable.

But now those trees were either withered and dead or evolved into underwater plants.

Near the rocks on the cliffsides, a massive accumulation of floating debris lay.

Bottles, foam, plastics—items once manufactured by humanity now flooded surfaces everywhere.

Nevertheless, because of these items, some distressed humans managed to survive.

Kawazaki smiled at the two soldiers, “What should I call you both?”

The black soldier said indifferently, “Bob.”

Another black soldier said, “Vance.”

Kawazaki Shun eagerly smiled, “Hello, hello, we’ll scout ahead shortly, can trouble you two to wait here? Once we confirm it’s safe, then you’ll come up.”

Vance and Bob exchanged glances, nodding slightly.

This Japanese knew his place.

Vance said, “Good, then we’ll leave it to you.”

Kawazaki Shun, grinning, nodded, then voluntarily led his men to land on the island quickly.

Upon landing, a Japanese man whispered, “Island Lord, this can’t continue like this; these Lighthouse Country people don’t even treat us as humans. We’re scolded for even gathering to talk.”

Kawazaki Shun’s face was cold, saying, “Wait a bit longer; that Eight-headed Great Serpent should be around these waters.”

“Once we find the Eight-headed Great Serpent, given the nature of that fierce beast, it’ll certainly tear apart these bastard!”

“Only by fighting can we truly escape; otherwise, even if we flee, where could we run to?”

They nodded slightly, knowing this was the only way for now.

Otherwise, even if a few escaped, their companions held on the ships would remain in trouble.

Of course, this was secondary; more importantly, their floating island was still in Lighthouse Country’s hands.

Without retaking their floating island, their home would be completely lost.

As they spoke, they reached the shore.

Suddenly someone spoke up, “Island Lord, there are footprints here.”

Kawazaki Shun immediately walked over to look at the messy footprints on the ground and the nearby water stains.

His eyebrow immediately raised, “Seems not only are there people here, but quite a few women too.”

“Judging by these footprints, the number should be quite substantial.”

Another person analyzed, “The water stains haven’t dried; they probably left not long ago.”

“Which means they noticed us?”

“Everyone, be cautious. They’re evidently wary of us if they’ve seen us and didn’t come out to communicate.”

“With the apocalypse, there’s no longer anyone naive. Still, they’re probably not too strong to not negotiate face-to-face.”

Kawazaki Shun quickly analyzed, then waved hand, saying, “Let’s go, land on the island!”
