From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Mu Shuangshuang laid out all the reasons to Lu Yuanfeng one by one.

She knew that this guy, as long as it concerns her safety, is incredibly stubborn!

Trying to persuade him is not an easy task.

Even if there are no issues, if he knows it might make her suffer a bit, he wouldn’t want her to do it alone.

”Shuangshuang, there’s no need to rush my mother’s affairs. You’re cooking for the commander every day, running back and forth, it’s inconvenient.

And at night, do you really want to return to Xing City under cover of darkness? The Northwest is extremely cold in the mornings and evenings, and at night, there are often evildoers about.

Better this way, you can go to Xing City during the day, but you must return at night! As for lunch, I can tell the commander that you don’t have time to cook, and cancel it.”

Having her under his watch at night was the biggest compromise Lu Yuanfeng could make.

Mu Shuangshuang also knew that while Lu Yuanfeng listened to her on many matters, when it came to her safety, he would never relent.

So be it, for now, anyway, she wouldn’t be staying in Xing City for long.

”Alright then, let’s do as you say, but I’ll still handle lunch! After all, Wen Nantian assigned me an assistant, I can direct him to prepare the ingredients needed for lunch each day.

Once everything is ready, I just need to quickly stir-fry a few dishes when I return. But, we won’t be able to have our little private meals at noon anymore!”

Since Mu Shuangshuang entered the military camp, apart from breakfast, she had been cooking lunch and dinner.

The only one in the entire camp who had this privilege was Wen Nantian, who got to enjoy Mu Shuangshuang’s cooking every day.

However, this was a stalling tactic to remain in the camp, otherwise, with Mu Shuangshuang’s status, she wouldn’t be allowed to stay there daily.

Lu Yuanfeng hesitated for a moment, wanting to refuse, but knowing the person before him wasn’t ordinary.

What she wanted to do, he couldn’t stop.

”Okay! If I’m free, I’ll accompany you to Xing City!” Lu Yuanfeng said.

”It’s getting late, let’s rest early. Tomorrow morning, I’ll go to the county to check on the shop and buy some ingredients for making sauces!”

After a good night’s sleep, early the next day, Mu Shuangshuang got up to make breakfast for Wen Nantian.

Unlike before, when she tried various dishes for him, she simply prepared a bowl of noodles for breakfast.

But the sauce was a beef sauce she had made up on the spot.

In the Northwest, finding a cow is much easier than finding a pig.

Plus, beef is far cheaper than pork, making it ideal for a sauce.

Mu Shuangshuang went to the kitchen, selected a few good pieces of beef, returned to her small kitchen, marinated the beef with ginger, garlic, and soy sauce, and added a bit of white wine to enhance the flavor.

Once the meat was infused, she had the little helper heat up the pan and pour in the rapeseed oil.

The helper was new, a soldier who had just joined the camp, but wasn’t as sturdy-looking as the others, so he was assigned to the kitchen.

Mu Shuangshuang brought him to the small kitchen.

They got along quite well. Most importantly, the little helper was quiet, rarely speaking a word, doing what he was told.

When the oil in the pan was hot enough, Mu Shuangshuang tossed in the marinated beef, stir-frying until it changed color, then added bean paste and chili oil, stir-frying together.

With the addition of chili oil, the beef became even more enticing in both color and taste.

The little helper beside her was drooling, and Mu Shuangshuang heard him swallowing, causing her to glance at him.

The little helper immediately hung his head in shame, burying his face in his chest.

”What’s your name?” Mu Shuangshuang suddenly asked.

The little helper had been with her for several days, but Mu Shuangshuang still didn’t know his name.

After spending some time together, Mu Shuangshuang felt he was trustworthy.

”Datou, Yang Datou!” The little helper still hung his head, but at least he spoke the first sentence he had in days.

Mu Shuangshuang nodded and said to Datou, ”Don’t be afraid of me, I’m just a cook, other than cooking when I see your commander, I mostly just stay around this little kitchen area.

I’m not fierce, nor do I bully anyone. You can interact with me as you would with someone from your village. If you have anything to say or want to eat, just tell me! By the way, I go by Daniu, Lu Daniu, and you can call me Brother Da Niu!”

Mu Shuangshuang’s words left Datou staring at him in surprise.

It was clear the kid was quite shy, likely not accustomed to going out.

Mu Shuangshuang knew that in ancient times, enlisting as a soldier was more favorable for the noble families, who often became officers.

However, for those from impoverished regions, enlisting had one primary goal: survival.

But on the battlefield, how much of a chance did they really have to survive?

Even if they risked half their life and achieved military success, the credit might not be theirs.

Mu Shuangshuang felt that Datou being in the kitchen wasn’t such a bad thing.

At least, it was safe!

”The beef sauce is ready, and the dough has rested enough. Once I finish, you can have a bowl of hot soup noodles!”

As Mu Shuangshuang spoke, she placed the rested dough on the board and began pulling noodles.

Her movements were very skilled, continuously stretching the dough from thick to thin, and ever finer in her hands.

Not a single noodle broke.

Yang Datou was dumbstruck, staring blankly at Mu Shuangshuang.

He didn’t manage to close his mouth until Mu Shuangshuang finished pulling the entire dough.

Breaking off a section of noodles, Mu Shuangshuang told Yang Datou, ”Datou, light the fire! We need to boil the water!”

”Okay!” Yang Datou nodded heavily, and from then on, his gaze towards Mu Shuangshuang changed, filled with admiration.

Mu Shuangshuang guessed that the kid was probably amazed by her noodle-pulling skills!

It was somewhat amusing; she thought her charm would win over those around her.

She hadn’t expected that it would be because of noodle-pulling one day!

Once the water boiled, Mu Shuangshuang started cooking the noodles. Soon, a steaming bowl of noodles was ready.

Poured with half a pot of mutton soup and a half ladle of beef sauce, a simple bowl of noodles suddenly became incredibly tempting!

”Eat up!” Mu Shuangshuang placed the noodles in front of Yang Datou.

Yang Datou trembled and waved his hand, ”No, I... I can’t eat, the commander hasn’t yet...”

”It’s alright, your commander’s meal is different from this, I’ll prepare his now!”

The so-called difference was that Mu Shuangshuang added a few green vegetables to his pot.

Wen Nantian had a big appetite, so Mu Shuangshuang prepared two large bowls of noodles for him, as for Wen Xiaoya!

Hmph, it was never agreed upon that she would cook for that woman. She had been doing so for quite a while, and it was time for her to step aside!
