From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

”No jokes about this either!” Lu Yuanfeng looked at Mu Shuangshuang with a straight face. ”Shuangshuang, don’t worry, I’ll definitely protect you. Worst comes to worst, I’ll just leave this camp!”

Lu Yuanfeng had thought it all through. Coming to enlist in the army was to give Shuangshuang more dignity.

So she wouldn’t be crushed under Mu Dade. But if coming here meant Shuangshuang would be wronged, he’d rather not be in this camp at all!

”What silly things are you saying? It hasn’t gotten to that point yet! Besides, do you really think I’m some delicate little flower anyone can bully?

That Miss Wen, she looks spoiled and domineering, but she’s not completely unreasonable. What’s more, I’m not some saint who just lets people walk all over me! If someone hits me once, I’ll hit back ten times!”

As she spoke, Mu Shuangshuang lifted her fist, deliberately putting on a fierce expression.

Lu Yuanfeng was amused by her, and only then was this matter considered done and over.

”By the way, how’s your injury?”

While there was a break in cleaning up the little kitchen, Mu Shuangshuang suddenly asked.

Lu Yuanfeng was taken aback for a moment, then after a while said, ”Pretty much healed. I can go to the drill ground for proper training tomorrow!”

”Then tonight I’ll put medicine on it again and check how it is. But even if it’s mostly healed, don’t push yourself too hard during training, okay?”

Mu Shuangshuang wasn’t afraid Lu Yuanfeng would find her naggy. She nagged him several times in a row about the spot where he was injured.

Lu Yuanfeng kept a smile on his face the whole time, not the slightest hint of impatience.

But his gaze stayed fixed tightly on Mu Shuangshuang, which actually made Mu Shuangshuang feel a bit embarrassed.

”Alright, everything’s tidied up here. Let’s go back and sleep!” Mu Shuangshuang said to Lu Yuanfeng.

”Wait, I’ll heat up some water for you first so you can wash up tonight. In the camp, most of the men use cold water. You’re not like them. Using hot water is better for your body.”

Lu Yuanfeng suddenly spoke, and what he said was out of concern for Mu Shuangshuang.

Only then did Mu Shuangshuang remember that even though she was dressed as a man now, she was still a woman. In the dead of winter, bathing in cold water really wasn’t a good idea.

Mu Shuangshuang boiled two full iron pots of hot water and had Lu Yuanfeng carry them in a wooden bucket back to his quarters.

Luckily this time Lu Yuanfeng had his own room; otherwise Mu Shuangshuang really would’ve had to go to the cooks’ quarters and live with that bunch of kitchen hands.

Bathing would be out of the question, and even sleeping she’d have to stay on guard.

Following Lu Yuanfeng back to his place, Mu Shuangshuang saw that he had already prepared a wooden tub and what she needed for bathing.

His face was flushed red as he pointed at the steaming water. ”I’ll wait outside and keep watch. Call me when you’re done, I’ll pour the water out for you!”

”Okay!”

In the middle of winter, soaking in a hot bath really was an especially comfortable thing.

By then it was already late; outside, it was pitch dark and the cold wind was howling.

Mu Shuangshuang didn’t dare waste too much time. She washed quickly and then called Lu Yuanfeng into the room.

After the bath, all the grimy stuff on Mu Shuangshuang’s face had been washed clean, revealing her true features.

As soon as Lu Yuanfeng came in, he saw Mu Shuangshuang sitting on the bed, hugging the quilt.

His face instantly flushed bright red. ”Are you cold? Do you want me to get a brazier of charcoal for you?”

”I’m fine. Hurry up, wash up and get up here to sleep!”

As soon as Mu Shuangshuang said this, Lu Yuanfeng’s knees went weak, and he nearly dropped the wooden bucket he was holding.

He stared, eyes wide, at Mu Shuangshuang, his face full of shock.

”Shuangshuang, what did you just say?”

”Call me Da Niu, don’t get us found out! Right now I’m a ’man,’ and you’re a man too. Us sleeping together, isn’t that perfectly normal?”

Mu Shuangshuang shot Lu Yuanfeng a reproachful look.

Seeing this silly guy actually trembling, she even wickedly wondered if she really was setting this fool in front of her up.

But in such cold weather, she really didn’t want him sleeping on the floor.

Forget it, just think of it as exercising their rights as husband and wife a little ahead of time. Anyway, they were just going to sleep, nothing more!

Once Lu Yuanfeng had finished straightening up the room, he came back in, still nervous as anything.

Especially when he saw that Shuangshuang had already spread the quilt, just waiting for him to get in.

”Hurry and sleep, I’m already sleepy!” Mu Shuangshuang urged Lu Yuanfeng.

Only then did he slowly walk over to her, still blushing furiously and looking utterly shy.

Mu Shuangshuang said nothing more, pulled half the quilt over to Lu Yuanfeng, and closed her eyes to sleep.

Lu Yuanfeng froze in place and had to give himself countless rounds of mental pep talks before he dared get onto Mu Shuangshuang’s bed.

His heart was pounding like a drum. He didn’t even dare take off his clothes, nor did he dare lift Mu Shuangshuang’s side of the quilt, though his eyes kept falling on her.

”Fengzi...” Mu Shuangshuang suddenly opened her eyes and happened to meet Lu Yuanfeng’s pitch-black, ink-like gaze.

”Mm.”

”Take off your clothes and sleep with me. I’m afraid of the cold!”

Lu Yuanfeng’s eyes flew wide open. He even suspected he’d misheard.

Until Mu Shuangshuang spoke again: ”You really are a silly boy. When you’re kissing me, I don’t see you this shy. Now you’ve turned into a touch-me-not. Do you have some unspeakable thoughts about me or something?”

Mu Shuangshuang was deliberately trying to scare Lu Yuanfeng.

Looking at the person in front of her, wanting to explain but not knowing how, his whole face turning red from holding it in.

She finally laughed!

”Alright, I’ll stop teasing you. Go to sleep. I have to get up early tomorrow to cook for your commander!”

Only then did Lu Yuanfeng do as Mu Shuangshuang said. He took off his padded jacket, and when he lifted the quilt, his hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

Mu Shuangshuang was once again amused by this silly boy’s reactions.

This silly boy was all bluff and no guts. Aside from kissing her, he didn’t dare do anything else.

She really wondered if, after they got married, he’d faint on their wedding night.

Thinking of this, Mu Shuangshuang couldn’t help wanting to laugh.

Lu Yuanfeng got into Mu Shuangshuang’s quilt, his whole body stiff, no different from a wooden puppet.

Mu Shuangshuang reached out and wrapped an arm around Lu Yuanfeng. The moment her hand touched his shoulder, Lu Yuanfeng felt a boom in his head, as if all the strings of his reason snapped at once.

He suddenly turned over and, before Mu Shuangshuang could react, pulled her into his arms.

He pressed his lips lightly to Mu Shuangshuang’s forehead, and his body instantly grew hot.

Mu Shuangshuang realized she’d really underestimated this silly boy in front of her—so much for being shy, so much for being embarrassed.

In the end...

But Lu Yuanfeng still didn’t do anything else. He just held Mu Shuangshuang, his lips pressed tightly against her forehead.

”Fengzi...” This time it was Mu Shuangshuang’s turn to blush.

”Don’t talk. Didn’t you say you were tired and wanted to sleep?”

Lu Yuanfeng lowered his voice, speaking softly beside Mu Shuangshuang’s ear.

”But...”

”Shh, I’m holding you. This way it’s warmer. Can’t you feel the quilt is much warmer now?”

”...”

Mu Shuangshuang finally understood what it meant to lift a rock only to smash your own foot!
