From Folly to Fortune：I Rewrite My Life After Rebirth!

Mu Shuangshuang was preparing to go to the Northwest, and Lu Yuanfeng, far away in the Northwest, was still unaware.

The only thing worth celebrating was that Xing Beichen had finally received the approval of those people in the Capital.

He could formally join under Wen Nantian as the smallest, nameless soldier.

All military maneuvers had to be handled solely by Wen Nantian.

Of course, there was also a downside—Xing Beichen was assigned to the kitchen, becoming a member of the Fire Head Army, responsible for preparing daily meals for all the soldiers in the camp.

This was undoubtedly a torment for Xing Beichen.

He came to fight with the people of Da Wei, but ended up being a cook.

He couldn’t go to the battlefield to kill the enemy or join the other soldiers in daily training.

Xing Beichen was unhappy every day, especially during meals, when he chatted with Lu Yuanfeng. He directly asked Lu Yuanfeng,

”Fengzi, do you know why the Wenjiang Army insists on placing me in this spot?

Even if I don’t learn anything useful, facing these meals daily will wear down my fighting spirit!”

Xing Beichen didn’t know how to cook at all; he couldn’t even handle a ladle.

”The commander didn’t tell me, but naturally, he has his reasons for doing so! Beichen, be patient a bit longer. Perhaps after some time, you’ll be sent to the training ground to train!”

The training ground is where soldiers train. Apart from battles, they sweat there every day.

Wen Nantian would personally train soldiers every day. If he found someone to his liking, he might take them elsewhere for more rigorous training at an appropriate time.

Lu Yuanfeng wasn’t treated preferentially upon returning to the camp; despite his good performance, he remained just in training.

But he wasn’t anxious. He recalled Shuangshuang saying, waiting patiently would eventually lead to great achievements!

”Training ground? Fengzi, you know my goal isn’t the training ground! It’s a higher place! I heard today that those chosen by General Wen would be taken to the mountains, to the yellow sand for training! When do you think we’ll have the opportunity to go?”

Lu Yuanfeng shook his head, ”I’m not sure!”

However, Lu Yuanfeng wasn’t yearning for it. He had already experienced mountain and desert training last time.

But to him, none of these were as useful as the training Elder Cheng conducted in Er Gui Village.

”Hey, you’re not anxious! I’m really anxious, afraid that I’ll spend my whole life in this kitchen, being a cook!

If only Shuangshuang were here, she could cook; if she helped, I might be able to go out and train!”

Xing Beichen looked off into the distance, murmuring.

He didn’t know that the person he often talked about was already preparing to set out for the Northwest.

If he knew, he would probably jump in shock.

When Lu Yuanfeng heard Shuangshuang’s name, a smile unconsciously appeared on his face.

”Maybe she’s on her way!” Lu Yuanfeng suddenly said.

”...” Xing Beichen was so shocked he nearly dropped the spatula.

”Fengzi, you haven’t gone crazy, right? How could Shuangshuang come here? She’s far, far away in Qingshan Town! It takes us a month to get here on a trip!”

”Shuangshuang said that if she misses me, she’ll come looking for us!” Lu Yuanfeng replied.

”That’s impossible, Shuangshuang is just a girl, how could she come over? Even if she calls Uncle Dashan and others, can they endure such a long journey?”

In Xing Beichen’s mind, no matter how strong Mu Shuangshuang was, she was still just a woman.

”By the way, have you sent any letters to Shuangshuang recently?” Xing Beichen changed the topic, not wanting Fengzi to dwell on something impossible.

”No! It’s inconvenient!”

The nearest town was thirty li from the camp, taking more than half a day’s walk.

The camp rarely had breaks, making it impossible to send letters.

”Then let’s wait a bit longer. I heard that in the New Year, there might be half-day shifts!”

It was nearing October, and New Year wasn’t far off.

”Yes!” Lu Yuanfeng nodded.

After chatting with Xing Beichen, Lu Yuanfeng went to the main commander’s tent—Wen Nantian’s tent.

These days, the commander would occasionally discuss military strategies with him. He found it easy to understand because many things were taught by Shuangshuang.

In fact, Shuangshuang explained things more thoroughly than the commander, but Lu Yuanfeng couldn’t say that.

Entering the tent, Wen Nantian was already seated at the long table, with some fruits long past fresh laid out on it.

The Northwest was arid, and apart from the commander, it was not easy for others to have fresh vegetables and fruits.

”Fengzi, come and sit?!”

Wen Nantian didn’t rush to discuss military knowledge but instead chatted about everyday matters with Lu Yuanfeng.

”Fengzi, you’ve been here a long time; have you adjusted well?” Wen Nantian asked.

Lu Yuanfeng nodded, ”I’ve long been used to it! Thank you for your concern, Commander!”

”That’s good!” Wen Nantian nodded, ”I was worried that after a year’s return, you’d forget your skills, but instead, in just a year, you’ve made remarkable progress.

The wildness on you has completely transformed into your own strength.”

Wen Nantian had been observing Lu Yuanfeng for these days.

If before returning to his hometown, Lu Yuanfeng was like a fierce beast, making him believe in Fengzi’s limitless potential!

Now, he was like a beast king, not only wild and powerful but also possessing a big-picture view never before possessed.

A general’s talent lies not only in fighting but in arranging others to fight as well.

Wen Nantian was increasingly satisfied with Lu Yuanfeng.

”Thank you for your mentorship, Commander!” Lu Yuanfeng expressed a sincere smile.

Wen Nantian was also pleased, pushing the fruits in front of Lu Yuanfeng.

”These were given by people in the kitchen yesterday, not very fresh, but better than nothing, try them!”

”No need, Commander, Fengzi is not greedy! If you have anything for me, please tell me, I will do my utmost to accomplish it!” Lu Yuanfeng said.

Wen Nantian burst into laughter.

”Still the same silly boy, not taking any advantage! By the way, Fengzi, in the past year, have you married back home?”

Lu Yuanfeng didn’t hesitate, nodding. ”Yes! There’s a girl I really like in my hometown; once this war is over and I return triumphant, I’ll marry her!”

Lu Yuanfeng didn’t notice the slight displeasure on Commander Wen Nantian’s face at these words, but he hid it well.

Moreover, as Lu Yuanfeng was solely focused on speaking, he didn’t notice.

”Is that why you came this time?” Wen Nantian asked.

”Yes! She didn’t ask me to come, but I want to give her better things! I don’t want her to suffer with me all her life!” Lu Yuanfeng replied.
