Investing In Overlooked Women: I Get Cashback On Every Glow-Up

Before Ruby could fire back another sharp retort at May, I reached out, gently grabbed her hand, and interlaced my fingers with hers. The sudden physical contact cut right through her spiraling anxiety and lingering jealousy, causing her breath to hitch as she looked down at our joined hands.

”Come on,” I said quietly. ”Let’s go see how much progress you’ve made in the studio.”

I led her down the corridor away from the kitchen, feeling the tension slowly drain out of her hand as she walked beside me. When we pushed open the heavy door to the soundproof studio, Annie looked up from the mixing console, a clipboard in hand and an approving nod already waiting.

”Welcome back,” Annie said, stepping away from the gear. ”Just in time. I was hoping you’d be here to witness this.”

Ruby stood a little taller, her grip on my hand tightening slightly before she let go to step up to the microphone. The nervous trembling from her first day was completely gone, replaced by a focused, electric stillness.

As the instrumental track started playing through the monitors, Ruby closed her eyes and began to sing. The transformation was staggering.

Her pitch was laser-focused, her breath control had doubled in stamina, and the raw, haunting emotional depth of her voice filled the entire room with effortless power. It wasn’t just good anymore—it was undeniable star quality.

Annie let out a low whistle of pure admiration, turning to me with a wide grin. ”She’s ready. The raw instrument is fully unlocked.”

As the final note of Ruby’s performance echoed and faded into the acoustic paneling, a translucent system notification materialized sharply in my field of vision, flashing a brilliant blue before locking the milestone into place.

Annie clapped her hands together, breaking the heavy, spellbound silence in the room. ”That right there? That is a finished product. She’s officially ready for the visual transformation.”

Ruby exhaled slowly, stepping back from the microphone with a flushed, triumphant smile, looking back and forth between Annie and me to see if she had measured up.

”You were incredible,” I told her, stepping forward with a nod of absolute approval.

With her voice dialed in and the first major hurdle cleared, it was time to move on to the next piece of the puzzle.

We needed to strip away the remnants of her old life—the dull corporate styling, the invisible ghost-writer aesthetic—and forge a visual identity sharp enough to blind Hailey and tear down everything her father built.

Ruby fidgeted with the hem of her top, her sudden triumph in the studio instantly giving way to a familiar, nervous shadow. As Annie stepped out to review the next stage files, Ruby looked up at me with wide, troubled eyes.

”Can we talk?” she whispered, her voice barely carrying over the hum of the studio gear. ”Alone.”

I nodded, stepping closer and closing the heavy studio door to give us complete privacy.

”What is it, Ruby?” I asked gently.

She let out a shaky breath, looking down at the floor before forcing herself to meet my gaze. ”I’m scared. Singing for you and Annie in this private room is one thing... but actually doing it in public? On a stage? In front of thousands of people who might judge me, or worse, compare me to Hailey? I don’t know if I can do it. What if I freeze?”

It was the final mental barrier blocking her path—stage fright born from years of hiding in the shadows as a ghost-writer while others took the spotlight. But it was a hurdle we had to clear as part of her upcoming aesthetic and brand transformation.

I stepped right up to her, placing a firm, reassuring hand on her shoulder.

”Look at me,” I said, my voice steady and unwavering. ”You spent years hiding behind corporate desks and writing songs for people who didn’t deserve your talent. You aren’t that person anymore. You have the voice, you have the brand, you have the backing, and you have absolute confidence. Change is terrifying because it’s unfamiliar, but you aren’t supposed to fear it—you’re supposed to conquer it. I didn’t pull you out of Travis’s grip just for you to hide in a studio.”

Ruby stared at me, the panic in her eyes slowly dissolving under the weight of my words. A slow, determined breath filled her chest, and she gave me a small, resolute nod, her grip tightening on my arm.

Right as the psychological shift locked into place, the translucent system interface flickered into view, updating our progress.

The afternoon sun was still warm when a sleek matte-black SUV pulled up the winding drive of the cliffside estate and parked by the fountain.

Out stepped Joejay, a veteran music executive who moved through the industry with the effortless swagger of a retired rapper turned power broker. Dressed in tailored streetwear, designer shades, and layered gold chains, he didn’t look like a stiff corporate suit—he looked like a man who actually knew how culture was built on the streets and in the charts.

I met him at the double doors and brought him inside to the living room, where Ruby was waiting alongside Annie. Joejay tossed his jacket over the back of a sofa, scanning the room with sharp, experienced eyes before locking onto Ruby.

”So, this is the voice everyone’s whispering about,” Joejay drawled, a knowing grin spreading across his face. He pulled up a chair, sitting backward with his arms folded over the backrest. ”Listen, I’ve managed acts, broken records, and watched major labels flush millions down the toilet trying to manufacture stars. If we want her to bury Hailey and take over the charts, we need to play this smart.”

He leaned in, pointing a finger for emphasis. ”Here’s my advice: don’t start by pumping millions into a flashy, overnight ad campaign. People smell manufactured trash from a mile away. If you shove her down the internet’s throat too fast, they’ll write her off as an industry plant before she even drops a single note.”

A pause, ”We need to go organic. Seed her tracks on underground boards, let the raw talent bleed through grassroots hype, and let the culture discover her naturally. Then we hit them with the full machinery.”

Ruby listened intently, her posture straightening as Joejay broke down the exact industry mechanics required to build a legacy that couldn’t be bought.
