———

Intending to get some fresh air, Bevryth sat on the stairs in front of the main door.

She was rubbing her forehead which had been throbbing non-stop.

Even though she managed to somehow go to sleep—even with the problems, she had been disturbed with relentlessly by General Theodas, she was woken up by nothing and doubted she could go back to sleep again as her mind was already awake.

ʼDoing nothing will only worsen the situation, what should I do...?ʼ

Contemplating about her offense against the Empress, Bevryth bit her lower lip—troubled.

ʼBoth the Sanzo, and Diaro Families blamed me, for proposing the strategy—and they agreed to leave the kingdom to lay low as the situation is not going to calm down any sooner. Should I also bring my family to go with them? I can lay low until I find a way to avoid, or take care of the consequences,ʼ She pondered deeply.

Technically, Evelyn was not Empress back then when the offense happened.

But she was now, and thatʼs a big problem.

If the punishment was exacted before she was crowned Empress—then the Silverstar Pack might give them some leeway with a lighter punishment—as Evelyn was not hurt too much. Now that she was Empress, the act of harming her was one of the gravest of offenses.

One of the most heavily punished offenses imaginable.

No chance that the Aldri, Sanzo, and Diaro families were given mercy for this offense.

Even now, the Sanzo Family has already been punished severely by King Jorik.

Korvak is the one who dealt the blow, that was the reason why.

All of them were stripped of their noble status with the back of the people—and were forced to serve the kingdom for their entire purpose of life. It was the reason why, the Sanzo Family was the first one to front the plan to flee from the kingdom.

Coupled with their head family, Korvak dead, there was no place for them here anymore.

Pondering deeply, Bevryth eventually nodded, coming to a decision.

”Iʼll go with them. Iʼll have to notify my sisters about this, weʼll leave as soon as possible”

However, as she came to a decision—her heart skipped a beat, when she heard the guards conversing. Not that it was something that the guards wouldnʼt do when they were on night duty, but the fact that they seemed to be greeting someone.

Also, there was the additional fact that Bevryth was sensitive to things right now.

Furthermore, she felt the bad omen becoming more prominent.

Bevryth could feel a sinking feeling in her stomach that made it hard for her to breathe.

Pivoting around—she sucked in a cold breath seeing that the guards—were really greeting a visitor. Squinting her eyes, with her heart beginning to pound, she realized that it was a lady, and she was also a Dark Elf considering the aura coming out of her.

She expected to be a Human, but she could breathe a little bit easier since it was a Dark Elf.

”Quite young and quite strong...” Bevryth muttered whisperingly.

Even from the distance between them, she could tell that this visitor was strong.

However, as she scanned the guards, Bevryth noticed something.

”Draven, where is he?” She mused in confusion.

One guard that she trusted the most, Draven, should be taking the night shift tonight.

But amongst the guards present, she didnʼt find him anywhere.

Just then—the guards opened the gate and escorted this respectable lady who was wearing something that no Dark Elves wore. A white sleeveless crop tee covers her upper body and a black cargo pants covers her legs.

For a moment there, Bevryth was confused as to who she was.

But as the lady got closer, she widened in realization.

Since the circle of nobles in the Dark Elf Kingdom is not big, she knew all Nobles from sight, and this lady was not an exception. Bevryth recognized her when she got close—and it was hard to believe that it was really her.

”Naela...?” She uttered in a hushed tone.

Seeing that Bevryth was already outside, the guards were surprised.

Even then, they escorted Naela and presented her to Bevryth, ”A visitor, madam...”

”Naela, what are you doing here? Arenʼt you betrothed?” Bevryth asked in confusion.

As opposed to answering that question instantly, Naela ascended the stairs and tried to give Bevryth a light hug but was denied out of cautiousness. She decided to not mind that denial, ”Madam Bevryth, I have something to talk to you about. Do you have a place for us to talk?”

Despite being uneasy, Bevryth still nodded and brought Naela inside.

About a minute later.

Bevryth stood by the door, giving a small written note to the guard in front before she closed the door, turning around to face Naela, who was already standing by the table. She strode to Naela and stood opposite her, with a table separating them.

Both of them were currently inside some sort of a meeting room inside the mansion.

Only a couple of candles light up the room, making the place quite dim.

However, it was still enough for them to see each other clearly, of course.

”So, what do I owe the pleasure of you coming here this late in the night?” Bevryth asked.

Not wanting to beat around the bush—Naelaʼs expression turned serious as she replied, ”Iʼm here, with good intentions only, madam, and that Iʼm not lying” She stated before pausing. ”I heard about the incident—against the Empress... and I was wondering, why is not there, any official apology or something for it?”

”Apology? We came to the coronation, and there was no mention of it. Not to mention, it was Sir Flunra himself who punished Korvak—I assume that matter is already concluded” Bevryth replied, trying to play the fool card.

Naela was irked a little as Bevryth was being too obvious to her avoidance.

Crossing her arms tightly, Naela replied, ”Tomorrow, someone will come here about that”

”It would be my fiance and for the sake of our entire kingdom—please go apologize right now or at least prepare an apology for when he arrives. Just take responsibility for the blame—Iʼm begging you” She continued blatantly.

Her tone consists of a sense of plea, and her wavering expression confirms that.

Upon hearing this, Bevryth paused, remaining silent for a solid half a minute.

Eventually, she shook her head again, ”I told you, Sir Flunra already punished us so thereʼs no need for your fiancee to do anything. Youʼre wasting your time here, young Naela, I would not apologize because thereʼs nothing to apologize for. Itʼs already concluded”

At her words, Naela flinched—gripping her arms tighter in utter trouble.

She seemed to be reluctant and stubborn about this matter.

”The Emperor, and King Jorik worked hard for this peace—listen to me this once. Apologize, and make all of this go away. Iʼm even willing to compensate you. Anything you asked for, Iʼll get it. Iʼm very close with the Silverstar Pack—so I can certainly get anything for you,” Naela replied, still desperate to sway Bevryth.

Looking at Naela attentively, Bevryth sighed, she seemed to be undecided.

It was only then that she surprisingly answered, ”Very well, wait outside. Iʼll go with you”

Naelaʼs expression brightened when she heard this.

She couldnʼt help but give Bevryth another hug, and this time, Bevryth accepted.

Only then that Naela excuse herself from the room.

ʼSee? I knew that she would understand. Kyran was wrong to bet me that I couldnʼt make her apologize. Now, he has no reason, to exact punishment on herʼ Naela pondered happily—she couldnʼt wait to see Kyranʼs expression when she gave him the news.

Upon reaching outside, she passed by the guards in a happier mood.

”Are you finished talking with Madam Bevryth?” One of the guards asked, quite surprised.

Both of their conversations lasted very brief.

In response, Naela nodded vibrantly, ”Yes! Please prepare a caravan for us!”

Listening to this, the guards exchanged looks before they nodded—going to grab a caravan.

Even though they usually only take orders from Madan Bevryth—seeing that Naela finished a talk with her—the guards did as they were told and brought Naela the caravan—thinking that the two were going to go somewhere.

Soon, the royal caravan came—and Naela sat on the stepping ledge of the caravan in wait.

Out of happiness, she hummed, her voice adding melody to the whistling wind of the night.

From the looks of things, the night wouldnʼt be so bad after all.

However, that happiness didnʼt last long.

It had been close to fifteen minutes, and no sign of Bevryth coming out of the mansion.

”No... She canʼt be, right?” Naela uttered, her face paled.

She asked the guards to take her back into the mansion to check on Bevryth—which they agreed to without a question. But then—when the door of the mansion was opened, there was only silence.

Panicking, Naela went to the room before, searching for Bevryth—but she was not there.

She went to the other corner of the mansion but found nothing.

No sign of Bevryth anywhere.

Eventually, she stumbled to Bevrythʼs bedroom and found that the windows were open.

”She... She escaped” Naela muttered heavily, clenching her fists tightly.

Realizing what had happened—she bit her lips before inhaling a deep breath, ”COME BACK!” Her voice echoed with desperation—hoping to reach Bevryth and prevent her from making a terrible mistake. ”I AM TRYING TO HELP YOU, CANʼT YOU UNDERSTAND?!”

On the other hand, without a second of a doubt, Bevryth escaped the mansion.

She already made her decision earlier—and Naela had given her an important detail, that her fiancee would come tomorrow so she and her family had only tonight to escape before being caught in a biased trial by him.

At the sound of her shout, Bevryth stopped and looked back.

However—she didnʼt mind Naelaʼs cry and continued onward.

Bevryth only lived with her husband, and she has a connection with her husband through the steel necklace with half a heart pendant she is wearing right now. Earlier, she already notified him to meet her in the forest as they would be escaping tonight.

Moreover, her other family members were nearby.

”Fortunately, I told the guard to inform my sisters to escape” She mused with a nod.

Earlier before the talk with Naela, she already did that.

Now, her family must be already preparing to leave already if not already left the kingdom.

Due to that, she didnʼt need to take a stop to inform them one by one.

Piercing through the darkness of the night silently—Bevryth cloaked her body, with her dark nature energy and turned invisible. She leaped from roof to roof, tree to tree, not making any sound in the slightest.

Her destination is the outskirts of the kingdom.

She couldnʼt go through the main gate of the kingdom, she had to go through another way.

Fortunately, she foresaw this to happen and planned an escape route.

”Hmm, weird... there are not that many guards around” Bevryth uttered with a frown.

But she put that at the back of her mind as itʼs not important right now.

Avoiding the people—she managed to reach a cave that goes underground past the walls of the kingdom. It was used for mining, but had already been abandoned for years. Now, it was the perfect place for her to sneak out.

But as she landed right in front of the cave, she stopped dead in her tracks.

Leaning on the cave mouth was a figure, General Theodas who seemed to be expecting her.

”Seems like Iʼm getting rusty, it hurt my pride quite a bit for someone like you, to read me this easily” Bevryth commented, a hint of praise in her voice. ”King Jorik taught you well but donʼt not mistake me for some nobody, general”

Swish...

As she said that, her dark nature energy began to swirl around in preparation for a fight.

However, General Theodas waved his hand in response.

”Donʼt bother, Iʼm not here to stop you” He said, denying the fight that was about to happen.

Upon hearing this—Bevryth raised an eyebrow, ”Good choice, so what are you doing here?”

Straightening his posture—he approached Bevryth and stopped a short distance away from her, ”Giving you a warning,” He said. For better or worse, Bevryth saw a flicker of emotion in General Theodasʼ eyes. ”Do not run, take responsibility. I assure you, that they are way nicer than any other force. Know that the price of apologizing is way cheaper than that of running away.

If I were you, Iʼd be very afraid and start apologizing”

Bevryth scoffed in response, ”Is that all? If so, then Iʼll get going now”

Not taking General Theodasʼ words into consideration, she began to walk towards the cave.

Just before she could pass him, General Theodas grabbed her arm.

”I thought you were not going to try and stop me?” She asked.

General Theodas replied, his last warning, ”Think again, youʼre making a grave mistake”

”Kyran is not the Emperor” He added to make a point.

But it ended up the same, with Bevryth not being swayed, ”Thereʼs nothing to think about—I am not going to stay here—and let my family be sacrificed. Regardless of who this Werewolf called Kyran is, he would not catch me in the forest. Goodbye,”

Just like that, Bevryth left—leaving General Theodas standing alone in the area.

He can only stand and hear Bevryth go into the cave.

Staying on his spot stiffly, General Theodas could only sigh at her stubbornness and pride.

”If you know what you are going to face, you also would not hesitate to apologize. Sigh... you couldʼve avoided a tragedy. I already warned you—but you chose to walk straight to it. It is a farewell, Bevryth...” He mused before dashing away.
