Zhang Han’s ranking was only two places higher than Lu Xianbing’s, at one hundred ninety.

But at this moment, he was so excited he couldn’t close his mouth.

He had secured the status of a core disciple.

Up until now, he had still considered himself as a disciple from the Inner Court; he hadn’t expected to actually become a core disciple.

This was also related to the rankings from the fourth challenge.

Both Lu Xianbing and Zhang Han, because of Xu Jin, had achieved relatively high rankings in the fourth challenge.

Then, the fifth challenge was a head-to-tail combat match, which resulted in them being paired with opponents who had lower rankings, essentially giving them a freebie.

Basically, those they fought against were ranked around the four hundred mark.

But if they had been ranked four hundred in the fourth challenge, then their opponents would have been around the two hundred mark, making it much harder for them to obtain the core disciple status.

While congratulating them, Xu Jin kept his eyes on the Martial Observation Platform, where Hu Xuechuan, the Hall Master of Tianyang Star Hall, was still present.

[Xu Jin, the third round of the elimination match begins. Please proceed to Platform One within five breaths’ time to battle against contestant number two hundred sixteen.]

After receiving the Starlight Transmission, Xu Jin stepped onto Platform One in an instant, casting a glance towards the Martial Observation Platform before he left, sweeping his gaze quickly across without lingering or drawing any attention, confirming that Hu Xuechuan was still there!

Still on the Martial Observation Platform.

Xu Jin’s opponent in the third round was a disciple from Jing State, who started to laugh bitterly upon seeing that it was Xu Jin.

There was no hope for an easy victory.

And indeed that was the case.

A breath later, after Xu Jin closed in, he blasted his opponent into starlight with three solid punches.

No technique was displayed, just a straightforward clash.

At this time, Xu Jin didn’t want to show off any techniques.

With so many people watching, showing too many tactics could lead to being targeted in the future.

After his victory, Xu Jin returned to the area for the Jinshan Taoist Institute’s trialists, once again casually sweeping his eyes over the Martial Observation Platform, Hu Xuechuan was still there.

In the third round, both Lu Xianbing and Zhang Han were eliminated at the same time, failing to break into the top hundred.

However, for them, becoming one of the core disciples at the Da Chen National Taoist School was already a delightful surprise.

They estimated that starting tonight after the day’s events concluded, the Lord-lieutenant Mansion would begin to throw a grand feast.

Wang Weisheng originally ranked seventy-sixth in the fourth challenge, but he had locked down a top ten position, guaranteeing core disciple status early, and did not participate in the first two rounds. Hence, he entered the third round’s ranking elimination as the eleventh contestant.

He faced competitor number two hundred three.

The victory wasn’t too easy, but he won nonetheless.

He succeeded in breaking into the core disciples’ top hundred.

This victory filled Wang Weisheng with great joy; although everyone was a core disciple, the difference in ranking meant an extra Star Casting Pill as a reward.

A single Star Casting Pill was worth five hundred Taoist Merits, equivalent to five thousand taels of silver.

The key point was that Taoist Merits couldn’t simply be exchanged.

Taoist Merits could be exchanged for Starlight, but Starlight could not be exchanged back into Taoist Merits.

All of this was thanks to Xu Jin. Wang Weisheng’s gratitude towards Xu Jin was more than apparent.

As for the resentment because of not being in agreement?

It had long vanished.

Now, Wang Weisheng only regretted not befriending Xu Jin sooner.

If he had befriended Xu Jin earlier, he might have had the chance to sneak into the ranks of the True Inheritors.

[Xu Jin, the fourth round of the elimination match begins. Please proceed to Platform One within five breaths’ time to face off against contestant number one hundred eight.]

Xu Jin once again took a step towards Platform One. Before stepping out, he glanced at the Martial Observation Platform.

Hu Xuechuan was still there.

Just as Xu Jin had set foot onto Platform One for the fourth round of the elimination match, Hu Xuechuan’s expression abruptly changed. He immediately pulled out his Star Artifact, the Star Positioning Plate, and began to focus intently on it.

On the Star Plate, the red spot he had been searching for over several years, previously very faint, suddenly started flashing, its position rapidly becoming clearer!

”How coincidental with the timing!” Hu Xuechuan said with a cold laugh. After looking at the Star Plate and then towards Star Master Du Tingyun, his brow furrowed slightly.

At this time, he couldn’t just leave.

After pondering for a few moments, Hu Xuechuan sent a message to Du Tingyun, the Star Master of Great Chen at Tianyang Star Hall, ”Star Master, I’ve just received an urgent report. An urgent matter has occurred at the Yan State Branch Hall of Tianyang, and I need to deal with it immediately. I must request leave.”

”Urgent matter? What kind of urgent matter?” Du Tingyun asked. She was already irritated with Hu Xuechuan today, and upon hearing his excuse, she knew he was fobbing her off, uncertain what he was up to.

For the past two years, old Hu had been quite mysterious.

”Just a moment, I’ll retrieve the urgent report and then present it through the Star-picking Order to the Star Master before I leave,” Hu Xuechuan said helplessly, his activities not being something he could disclose; otherwise, the benefits would no longer be his alone. He had no choice but to proceed this way.

”Oh, I’ll wait.”

The next instant, Hu Xuechuan’s figure vanished from the Martial Observation Platform.

Just as this happened, Xu Jin’s fourth round of combat ended easily, and he returned to the trialists’ area, casually out of habit, glancing towards the Martial Observation Bar—his expression changed.

Hu Xuechuan had disappeared!

What was old Qi up to?
