Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 1708: Chapter 1708: Passing the Imperial Examination

Later on, Meng Po also strolled enough outside, so she drank tea and listened to stories here.

Today, a candidate sat across from them.

”Are you two also candidates this time?”

Meng Po nodded with a smile, ”Yes, brother, are you also a candidate? Waiting for the results here?”

”Yes. Do you feel confident?”

”Not sure yet?”

”You are young, even if you don’t succeed this time, there are future opportunities. Look at that person, he’s already taken part five times, and sitting next to him is his son. Father and son taking the exam together. I’ve even heard of stranger stories, three generations taking the exam together.”

”Is that possible?”

”Of course. The court doesn’t limit age, so don’t worry, if you don’t make it this time, you can take it slowly in the future.”

”Thank you, brother.”

This person is truly warm-hearted. With him around, we get more news.

”A few years ago, there was cheating, but the current Holy Emperor pays great attention to it. I think it will become fairer.”

Qi Wen didn’t speak, she was listening to their nonsense.

Suddenly, intense arguing was heard.

Listening to their debate was really speechless. They all want to persuade the other, thinking the other’s reasoning is flawed.

”Don’t be shocked, it’s normal, it’s important to discuss our different perspectives?”

”Isn’t this fighting?” Meng Po asked with a smile.

”Of course not, it’s a sign of excitement.”

This person was caught off guard. As soon as he spoke, the arguing parties started fighting.

Both are Scholars, which means they have honors. Well, neither feared the other, neither conceded.

But in the end, they’re two bookworms.

Meng Po whispered, ”Doesn’t it seem like two shrews fighting?”

With her words, several scholars nearby laughed.

The teahouse owner came over to separate them, watching them express dissatisfaction at their unreasonable opponent.

Meng Po chuckled to the side. A few familiar faces came over to comfort the two.

A month quickly passed, today is the day results are announced.

The top three are of course congratulated by the government loudly.

Zhang Sheng III opened his family gate early, and yesterday his wife made plenty of pastries, bought peanuts and seeds.

Meng Po watched the anxious family of three outside, ”It’s like they’re waiting for results?”

Qi Wen also couldn’t understand, her modern mindset truly couldn’t comprehend behaviors like this, it felt submissive.

Zhang Dong couldn’t sit still, ”Master, I’ll go check outside.”

Both treated the family quite tolerantly. These matters obviously aren’t refused.

”You seem quite confident.”

”What? Either way, I’ll definitely pass as a scholar.”

”Prepare next year for the provincial exam.”

”Alright, I thought your proposal is quite good. Let’s settle things here, then check elsewhere.”

Gu Ersheng was about to explode, these two really agreed easily, still not done.

No way, he felt uneasy without being near the girl.

Just then, Ghost Messenger arrived. Offering to pass messages for Qi Yan. Others couldn’t, only that one couldn’t be directed.

Hearing Zhang Dong’s shouting outside, he barged straight in, something never done before.

”Master, Master, you’re first and second, soon the officers will come to bring good news.”

Zhang Sheng followed, smiling broadly, deeply understanding the significance of a third-grade official at the Prime Minister’s door, even servants stand nobly.

So the two masters’ high rank certainly made him happy.

”Master should prepare reward money, my family has made plenty of purses, for holding different amounts of Silver.”

Meng Po joyfully pulled out fifty taels, Zhang Sheng supported.

They just prepared when they heard the drums and shouts outside, people shouted, ”Congratulations to the two masters.”

The two went out, lots of people gathered outside.

”Congratulations to Lord Ye Liangyu for scoring first among scholars.”

”May I ask which is Lord Ye Liangyu?”

Qi Wen stepped forward, showing her ID and exam badge.

The officer checked seriously, ”Congratulations, you’re promoted.”

Qi Wen received the document, equivalent to a graduation certificate, thanked the officer.

Zhang Sheng wisely stuffed an envelope to each leading officer, and to all arriving officers, obviously, the amounts varied.

Such matters thankfully received, and feeling the weight, quite substantial.

”May I ask if Lord Ye Liangjun is present?”

Meng Po repeated the procedure.

”Congratulations, Lord Ye Liangjun, for scoring second.”

Each received a purse. Goodness, so much Silver without moving an inch.

Everyone felt lucky, snatching the assignment quickly.

”The two masters, our Magistrate wishes the two masters visit his manor tomorrow, and of course other newly promoted scholars.”

The two smiled and nodded, ”Certainly, thank you all, hard work.”

”Not hard. It’s our honor,” the two masters were truly amicable.

After sending off the officers, neighbors came to congratulate. They knew the house was rented but congratulated nonetheless.

”Master, will you check outside? People who didn’t pass are crying loudly.” Zhang Dong snickered.

Meng Po pulled Qi Wen, quickly moving over.

Too many people surrounded the list, with plenty just watching for fun.

”I’m not going in, I’m not squeezing in.”

Meng Po sighed, ”If you won’t go, I will, no problem? Wait, I’ll come back and inform you.”

Qi Wen really had no choice, ”Zhang Dong, follow her.”

”Brother, do you know the first two? Why haven’t I heard of them at the academy?” The familiar guy approached Qi Wen.

”Did brother pass?”

”Not much, ranked thirty-five.” He said proudly.

Qi Wen cupped her hands, ”Congratulations.”

”And you, brother?”

”I’m Ye Liangyu.”

”You? You are the first?”

Qi Wen nodded, the guy’s expression was genuinely rich.

”So, that day was Ye Liangjun?”

Qi Wen nodded.

”Pardon, pardon.”

While they spoke, some heard it too. Now Qi Wen was surrounded, full of self-introductions.

Though scholars still don’t hold official positions, a first-ranking scholar is truly prestigious.

Qi Wen mingled with everyone.

Some were delighted, some worried, there were indeed cries of sorrow.

”Brother Ye, even father and son couldn’t succeed like Zhu Huai’en—I, Zhu Huai’en 1, didn’t succeed.”

Qi Wen also saw the father-son pair, entirely dissatisfied, an air of resentment.

Honestly, older age isn’t necessary. If a family is wealthy, it’s manageable. For an average family, supporting two scholars is really hard.

Meng Po came back, those gathered began self-introductions again, wanting to make friends with the brothers.
