Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 1706: Chapter 1706: Imperial Examination

Qi Wen didn’t mind, ”Actually, I think if you have the capability to be granted the title of Alien King or perhaps Duke or something like that, wouldn’t it be more interesting if they meet you and have to bow?”

Meng Po laughed, ”Your soft knife is quite sharp; I can handle that, but as for those women, they must be made to lose everything.”

”Once you’re above them, everything else is easy.”

”You’re right.”

The next day, Zhang Sheng left, and the two of them went to school daily, with Zhang Dong responsible for bringing meals, of course, learning quite a few characters along the way.

Servants are not eligible to participate in exams, and even without servitude status, they still lack the qualification. But that didn’t stop Zhang Dong’s desire to learn.

”Zhang Sheng can’t participate in the imperial exams. After losing his servitude status, can Zhang Dong then?”

”See, you’re soft-hearted again.”

”I was moved by his attitude towards learning and want to find a way to help him.”

”You’re just hard-mouthed but soft-hearted.”

”I think it might be possible, let’s ask around later.”

Boys in their teens do change quickly, and the two of them were no exception.

The two graceful young men were the focus of attention for many.

Neither of them were ones to settle, nor would they compromise their food and clothing, making them quite unique in this small town.

Meng Po loved being the center of attention, while Qi Wen didn’t mind; she was quite speechless watching Meng Po waving a fan, thinking he looked quite dashing.

When they arrived at the academy, Meng Po still went to chat and joke with classmates.

Qi Wen felt helpless; she disliked this kind of socializing since she was young, at the time her mother even worried she had autism,

but it wasn’t the case; it was only in front of family and those she recognized that she would show her true self.

”Brother Ye, I heard you are going to participate in the academy exam?”

Qi Wen was still not used to the local form of address, seeing someone much older addressing her as Brother Ye.

”That’s the plan, I want to give it a try.”

”It’s required to pass the provincial exam before participating in the academy exam in three years.”

Qi Wen nodded. What did he mean? Afraid she would take his scholar’s spot? No way, judging by his grades, even attempting another dozen times or so would be difficult.

Qi Wen just smiled and said nothing; rules are rigid, while people are flexible.

Not getting an answer, he was relentless, ”Brother Ye, the clothes and shoes you wear are quite nice, may I know which tailor you ordered them from?”

”My family’s maid made them.”

Qi Wen could see contempt on his face, it was truly unbelievable.

Feeling they were too immature, with their thoughts displayed openly, such people would never achieve anything great.

People with different paths cannot make plans together; speaking with such people is a waste of saliva.

They were envied because they didn’t eat at the academy, and each time their meals were especially refined.

Meng Po showed off. Qi Wen didn’t like being watched while eating and glared at Meng Po, the boring fellow.

The academy director’s attendant student came over to invite them.

”Isn’t it to clear up the way so we can participate in the academy exam?”

”I don’t know, it might not be a good thing.”

”How is that possible?”

”I truly admire your confidence.”

Meng Po waved the fan, and Qi Wen’s lips twitched. Thankfully, it’s this era and that he has a male body, otherwise, it would be hard to say.

Thinking he wanted to go to the modern age, she was wise to decline him. Otherwise, there was fear she would become a female rogue.

The two met with the director.

”This is a reply; the country needs talents now. Seeing your excellent performance, you are recommended to participate in the academy exam this November.”

”Thank you, Director, you truly are a great person,”

”Whether I’m a great person is irrelevant; the main thing is whether you have the confidence to pass the scholar exam.”

”Rest assured, Director, I won’t disappoint you.”

Qi Wen didn’t say a word, letting that show-off speak. From the looks of it, she could probably perform an entire play on her own.

At this thought, an idea stirred, why not end things here quickly, take her to the modern era as an actress, and act as her assistant?

The more she thought, the more feasible it seemed, she would discuss it later.

Even without the director’s instructions, this matter wouldn’t spread. Otherwise, someone might pursue it, making it impossible to participate in the exam.

Back home, Qi Wen shared her thoughts.

”I become an actress?”

”If you insist on interpreting it that way, you can, but in my era, actors are quite revered.”

”Really? Not just for entertainment?”

”I wouldn’t know. You’re a dignified official in the Yin Realm, aren’t you able to handle such a small thing?”

”Who do you look down upon? Don’t worry, I have ways. But is being an actor really okay?”

”If you don’t want to act, you can do something else.”

”That’s true, so we need to hurry up here, right?”

Gu Ersheng listened to the two of them, his mouth twitching continuously, these two really couldn’t be put together. He must be careful in the future, can’t let them mix. Regardless of what it was, they hit it off immediately.

Two months later, Zhang Sheng came back, bringing news from the Marquis Mansion.

Meng Po listened intently, the smile on her face growing bigger.

When only the two of them were left, ”Isn’t it your Golden Immortal causing trouble? Otherwise, who would come to mind?”

”Probably not?”

”I think it’s him. Otherwise, how could the Marquis Mansion be so unlucky? Being investigated from above, it’s a good thing. However, if we don’t take personal revenge, it seems unreasonable.”

”Two months until the examination. Once you pass, quickly join the exams for rightful revenge.”

”Okay, okay, how stubborn you are.”

”What do you mean I’m stubborn?”

Meng Po waved her hand and left, Qi Wen didn’t bother to argue with her, it was too tiring.

Thinking about the situation Zhang Sheng mentioned regarding the Marquis Mansion. There likely wouldn’t be any major issues, but taking back a thousand acres for the fief was a pleasing thing.

Qi Wen still hadn’t adapted to being in a male body; it was quite speechless for a young woman to get used to a man’s situation.

Complaining during a bath. It would almost be better to be an illegitimate daughter; there wouldn’t be so much fuss, even feeling embarrassed while using the toilet.

Preparing for the academy exam required going early, they didn’t travel with other disciples from the academy; Zhang Dong was still accompanying them this time.

They wouldn’t wrong themselves. They rented a yard near the examination hall, and because they had to wait for the results, they rented it for half a year directly.

”Running out of Silver again?”

”Tomorrow we’ll sell ginseng.”

”Hehe, with just the two of us, this is the only way to make money.”

Qi Wen didn’t bother to respond to her, always so ignorant.

Their situation was particularly interesting; Qi Wen took out two stalks of ginseng and sold them for seven hundred taels.

”Hehe, enough for a carefree life for a while.”

”What haven’t you wanted that you were unsatisfied with?” She felt like a nanny, constantly worrying alongside her.

Qi Wen found the director, joined in learning, and an academy student finally learned that the Ye Family Brothers would participate in the academy exam together.
