Chapter 48 - 48: The Mighty Shisui

Doujin Artist: Whoa, this fight is intense!

Looking at the flood of battle photos Konan sent, Eriri couldn’t help but marvel.

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: Yeah, neither Konohagakure, Sunagakure, nor Kumogakure are holding back.

Li Mochou could clearly see in the pictures that Konohagakure was already engulfed in flames and smoke.

Curly-haired Guy: Well, obviously. To Konohagakure, Sunagakure and Kumogakure are invaders. If they don’t drive them out, their loved ones will be in danger. And for Sunagakure and Kumogakure, this is the perfect chance to wipe Konohagakure off the map.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Uh, wasn’t Kumogakure here for revenge? And to get back the tailed beast?

Shark-Faced Guy: Yeah, that’s Kumogakure’s main goal. But wiping out Konohagakure doesn’t exactly go against that, does it? If one of the Five Great Nations is destroyed, the remaining four would split the spoils. The benefits would be unimaginable.

Curly-haired Guy: Heh, no leader could resist a chance like that. That’s just human greed.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Man, human nature is scary.

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: It’s not human nature that’s scary—it’s Aizen. Haven’t you realized? He even accounted for this greed and used it to his advantage!

Curly-haired Guy: That guy really is a monster. I wonder if Konohagakure can hold out this time.

Doujin Artist: They should be able to, right?

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: I’m not so sure. Don’t forget, the ones attacking Konohagakure aren’t just these guys.

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Yeah, Iwagakure and the Akatsuki haven’t even made a move yet. But even without them, Konohagakure’s situation doesn’t look good.

Not good at all.

On the western battlefield, Sarutobi Hiruzen and the Fourth Raikage were fairly evenly matched. Even though Hiruzen was old and his stamina was lacking, his vast combat experience made up for it.

But on the other side, Might Guy and the others were struggling against the combined strength of the Fourth Kazekage and Chiyo.

If this were an esports battle, even though Might Guy had opened the Sixth Gate and could draw the full attention of the Fourth Kazekage and Chiyo, the others—Kurenai, Mitarashi Anko, Yamashiro Aoba, and the rest—still couldn’t deal any real damage.

That was to be expected.

Even though these younger ninjas of the Hidden Leaf had been through the Third Great Ninja War, the gap between them and Kage-level fighters was just too big—except for Might Guy.

And right now, Might Guy still couldn’t open all Eight Gates.

On the Sand Village’s side, both Chiyo’s ”Ten Puppet Collection of Chikamatsu” and the Fourth Kazekage’s Magnet Release jutsu were perfect for large-scale attacks. Taking on multiple opponents at once was no problem, especially when the two of them were working together.

Boom.

A dull, heavy impact.

Yamashiro Aoba was sent flying by a puppet’s punch, coughing up blood in midair before slamming into a wall behind him.

”Yamashiro!” Might Guy’s face changed as he turned to rush over.

”Heh.” Rasa smirked coldly. ”You still have time to worry about others? Magnet Release: Gold Dust Burial!”

With a loud whoosh, golden sand on the ground suddenly gathered and formed into a massive golden hand, grabbing Might Guy’s right leg.

Damn it!

Might Guy’s pupils shrank as he instinctively tried to break free, but the golden sand clung to him like a parasite, quickly creeping up from his leg toward the rest of his body.

”Guy!”

”Dammit!”

Kurenai and Mitarashi Anko gritted their teeth and threw kunai at Rasa with all their strength. But before they could even get close, the kunai were swallowed up by the golden sand at Rasa’s feet.

It was over!

At that moment, Kurenai, Mitarashi Anko, and the other Hidden Leaf ninjas all showed looks of despair. Against Rasa’s Magnet Release jutsu, ranged attacks were useless, and getting close was suicide. All they could do was stand there, helpless.

Then—

A sharp flash of light suddenly cut into everyone’s vision. A fierce blade strike came slicing in from the southwest, instantly cutting through the golden sand hand and continuing straight toward Rasa.

What?!

Rasa’s expression changed, and he quickly clapped his hands together and pressed them to the ground.

”Magnet Release: Gold Dust Shield!”

With a loud crash, the golden sand beneath him shifted, forming a massive golden shield in front of him.

Boom.

The blade strike hit the shield, slicing through it like a hot knife through butter, splitting it in half from the left side. The golden sand crumbled and scattered everywhere.

”Dammit!”

Rasa reappeared, inhaling sharply with a dark expression. A fresh cut had appeared just below his left collarbone—not deep, but enough to draw blood.

His Gold Dust Shield had been broken, but it had still blocked most of the attack. Otherwise, he would have been decapitated just now.

Looking at the red-eyed young man before him, Rasa’s gaze turned cold. ”Uchiha Shisui... You’re a lot more dangerous than the intel suggested.”

Shisui didn’t answer. He simply glanced at Might Guy. ”You alright?”

”Don’t worry, I’m fine!” Might Guy gave a thumbs-up with a big grin. ”But thanks, Shisui!”

”Good.” Shisui let out a breath, his eyes shifting toward Chiyo, who seemed ready to make a move. ”That one’s yours. Think you can handle her?”

”Oh, of course!” Might Guy exhaled deeply, clenching his fists. ”Now it’s time for a real fight!” He shot forward like a panther, charging straight at Chiyo.

”You little brats—who do you think you’re looking down on?!”

Rasa was furious at being ignored. He slammed both hands onto the ground. ”Die, all of you!”

”Magnet Release: Gold Dust Wave!”

Boom.

A massive surge of golden sand erupted like a tidal wave, rushing straight at Shisui and Might Guy.

Shisui didn’t dodge. His crimson eyes gleamed like a ghost’s as he slowly raised his right arm, gripping his sword tightly. Then, he swung.

Slash.

The blade energy formed a dark red flaming sword in midair, slicing through the golden sand sea like a knife through butter.

”What? That’s impossible!” Rasa was stunned, his face filled with disbelief.

The golden sand shield he had just formed in a hurry being cut apart was understandable. But this golden sand sea—he had poured about a quarter of his chakra into it, making it even harder than steel!

And yet, this boy’s sword had still managed to cut it in half! This completely shattered his understanding of reality!

Swish.

Shisui didn’t waste time talking. Using the Body Flicker Technique, he instantly moved to the right and swung his flaming blade toward Rasa again.

Boom!

A massive explosion shook the ground, sending dust and smoke billowing into the air.
