THE GOD EATER

His unhelpful answer to the question made Loki scoff and say, “What kind of ridiculous answer is that? It is like saying that since I don’t know about a danger, I don’t need to know about it. It is like saying ignorance is bliss.”

He fumbled for words before saying with exasperation, “It is clearly the wrong thing to say, and no one here will believe it. We are not that stupid, and I, in particular, isn’t that easy to fool. So come up with a better excuse if you don’t want to tell me, or just say that you don’t want to tell me.”

Greg shrugged and said, “I don’t want to say it. There, i said it.”

Then he said with a heavy padding of sarcasm, “I hope that answer was able to satisfy your great intelligence. If not, tough luck”

Loki returned with a sneer, “It was, thank you for nothing.”

His reply caused Greg to chuckle before saying, “You’re amusing. I’m sure that how you will die will be funny. Since you’re unlikely to advance to rank 4 before you die, I might be lucky enough to catch your funny death soon enough.”

Then he slapped his forehead and said, “Look at me? Why am I planning to wait for your death? Wouldn’t it be better to orchestrate it? That way, it can come soon, and I can influence the process to be as funny as possible.”

“There is also the benefit of knowing when it happens, so I can prepare popcorn and be ready to watch it. So it is a good idea to orchestrate your death.”

After saying this, he shook his head and said in disbelief, “How did I even come up with such a genius idea? I surprise myself sometimes. I am just too talented. I am nothing like you fools who are destined to be forgotten in history and become footstools for my inevitable rise to power.”

“I mean, look at you. I’m talking about you with the special armor Life Ability. You will die soon, so it can be said that you’re destined for mediocrity.”

He said more things about how great he was and how useless everyone else was. He also made sure to point Loki out and make fun of him. But Loki ignored him.

Loki ignored him, no matter what he said, and refused to talk now that it was clear that he wasn’t going to get anything out of Greg. But he didn’t think that the conversation was useless. After all, he has just learned that everything related to a Life Ability should be a secret.

As he thought of this, his mind replayed the scene of the earlier clash between Greg and the enemies from the Martial Body Sect.

What he remembered made him say to himself in understanding, “He must be trying to keep his Life Ability a secret. It would explain why this group of enemies who know him and hate him a lot to prepare an ambush for him were caught off guard once he used his Life Ability.”

“They thought he was helpless and didn’t try to shoot him down immediately after they met him. Instead, they wasted their time and opportunities and gave him the chance to put them in an unfavorable situation.”

“He was also hesitant to use his Life Ability when he used it. As opposed to him, I used my Life Ability immediately I sensed danger. The only thing I thought to hide about it was its ability to fly. Maybe I am an ignorant noob.”

As he was thinking about this, the small dirigible finally made contact with the large airship. Greg pressed a button on the control deck, which led to the dropping of a gangway from the cabin to the deck of the airship.

There was a small crashing sound as the gangway fell onto the deck. With this done, Greg said to them without turning to them, “Now go on and have fun. Don’t worry about anything else.”

No one believed him. They left the cabin with a somber mood as if they were criminals being led to their execution.

The only ones more somber than they were were their enemies. The people of the Martial Body Sect stood in a half circle around the exit of the gangway, waiting for them. There were 16 of them now, and all of them had grim looks on their faces.

As it turned out, the people of the Martial Body Sect only have the martial name. They don’t have any moral ethics. Loki and his group discovered this because they saw the 16 of them gang up on those who had just walked down the gangway.

All of them couldn’t hit that single person, even though they clearly wanted to. Not only was the space to reach this unfortunate person too small, but each one of them was a big giant, so even fewer of them could squeeze into the space to reach the person who walked down the gangway first.

Only three of them were able to attack that person. Each of them had fists as big as plates. When they smashed their fists into the single enemy, their enemy was helpless to resist. The poor man was smashed to pieces amidst a roar of pain and helplessness.

The sight angered the people of the Four Directions Sect. But Greg didn’t seem to mind. He even laughed from where he stood behind them.

As he laughed, he clapped and said, “Good one, Brutus. Good one.”

He was cheering for the enemy just as one of them was killed. No one on the battlefield liked this. Not his allies and definitely not his enemies who hate him to the bone.

This act kick-started the fight. The remaining people coming out of the cabin decided not to use the gangway anymore. They jumped down directly onto the airship or began attacking from right where they were, instead of going down.
