Chapter 969: Chapter 299: Letter! Post Station! Small Town! Xiangxiang!_5

Yuchi: Love what you do!

Xiangxiang giggled and clapped her white hands: ”I just remembered, he and I were childhood friends!”

...

...

...

...

”!!!”

”Goddess! Did you just think of that?”

”Truly a goddess, do you really need to think long and hard about something like this? Shouldn’t this kind of thing be etched in your heart? Shouldn’t you tear up when I mention the name Xiang Shaoyuan? Why do you look like you’re waiting for praise, saying ’I just remembered’?”

”Don’t push me, I’m still a pure love supporter, don’t force me to the cuckold side.”

Xiangxiang was quite at ease about it.

She tightened her jacket and instead of rushing off to soak in the hot springs with Yuchi, she said: ”Xiang Shaoyuan and I were indeed childhood friends. We used to be neighbors, playing together when we were little. Later on, as we grew older, he even said he would marry me, and I said I would marry him.”

Yes, it matches what I learned from the letters, Xiang Shaoyuan said the same... Yuchi nodded repeatedly: ”Uh-huh, and then?”

”Then one day, he went to the sect to test his Spirit Root, and it turned out to be a third-grade Spirit Root. He came back overjoyed with this news, saying he could protect me, but I didn’t want him to leave me. Honestly speaking, our family wasn’t lacking money at the time.”

”We could have lived as ordinary people in Songquan County, had fewer children, and been happy for life.”

What the heck... Yuchi wiped off his sweat: ”So, in the end, he didn’t listen to you and stubbornly left Songquan County to cultivate?”

”Yes.”

”As you said, he left Songquan County in the end to go to the sect. Even if I cried and made a fuss, he was determined to go, wanting to become a powerful cultivator and take me flying in the sky.”

Yuchi nodded: ”Young men have dreams of flying, it’s understandable. So, did something bad happen later?”

”Not exactly something bad, it’s just that everything happened as I predicted. After all, he was still a child at the time. I already said it wasn’t necessary, but he still went, and I couldn’t convince him otherwise, so I let him go.”

”At first, I saw him once a month, then it became once every six months, then once a year.”

”Every time he said he wanted me to wait for him, he said it every single time, but in the end, as a woman, how could I endlessly wait?”

Xiangxiang sat properly at the round table, while Yuchi nodded slowly and poured her a cup of tea.

Indeed, letting a girl wait endlessly without a clear promise was really Xiang Shaoyuan’s fault.

Xiangxiang gratefully nodded to Yuchi. She had never had a guest pour her tea before, so she took a small sip, and, with Yuchi’s encouragement, continued: ”Come to think of it, I don’t mind you laughing at this, back then I was quite a pretty girl.”

”Then some family changes occurred; my grandfather passed away, and the same year my father died of illness. My mother and I were overwhelmed.”

”It was at this time that I met the young master of the Cao Family. Seeing how pitiful I was, he helped me. Having a man in the family really made a difference, and at first, we didn’t think much of it, but later on, we began to have feelings for each other.”

”Then on the day of the Lantern Festival!”

”He wore a pure white robe and carried a lantern to meet me at my doorstep. I will never forget how warm he was at that moment, like the winter sun. He expressed his feelings to me, saying he had spoken to his family, that I could go anytime as long as I let go of my longing for Xiang Shaoyuan.”

Xiangxiang’s face showed a lot of smiles and yearning, as if she was immersed in beautiful memories. But after telling this story, her expression quickly returned to her usual look, without the expectations of a little girl’s feelings; she was just a normal Xiangxiang again.

She then gave a big smile and asked Yuchi: ”If you were me back then, would you have had any reason to refuse?”

Yuchi listened, somewhat puzzled, and then shook his head: ”He was indeed a reliable man. Even without other attractions, his willingness to step forward and help, and his proper way of pursuing you, is something a girl couldn’t help but like.”

If he were Xiangxiang, he would like him too.

Xiangxiang, so relaxed and at ease, said slowly: ”Yeah, so I was ready to see where things could go with him. After all, Xiang Shaoyuan had kept me waiting too long, and it wasn’t in my character to make Cao Qingyu wait too long either. But unexpectedly, when Xiang Shaoyuan returned and found out, he argued with me, accusing me of not waiting for him and forgetting my promise.”
