Chapter 345: Chapter 345: Heroic Veylara

The crescent slammed violently into the side of the Centipede’s head, shattering a section of its thick chitin and knocking its massive jaws entirely off course. A spray of highly corrosive venom missed Veylara by inches, raining down on the mud below and instantly dissolving the earth into a toxic sludge.

Veylara landed gracefully on the edge of the newly formed crater, her spear held in a relaxed, low guard.

The five Behemoths quickly recovered their stances, shaking off the impacts, and began to circle her once again. They were uninjured, but their glowing, malignant eyes were warier now. They had tested her defenses, trying to overwhelm her with synchronized, overlapping physical extremes… speed, momentum, stealth, mass, and venom.

She had parried, redirected, and countered every single one without sustaining a scratch.

Veylara exhaled a slow, controlled breath, her White Tiger phantom mirroring her predatory focus. She did not have the dominant, overwhelming advantage needed to instantly slaughter them, but they could not overwhelm her either. It was a brutal, grinding stalemate of apex predators, a delicate balance of lethal force where a single mistake from either side would mean immediate, violent death.

“Come,” Veylara commanded softly, her voice barely carrying over the storm, but felt by every beast in the ring. “Let us see who meets his end first.”

For a moment, it was a silent standoff as neither side moved.

This tense, calculating standoff did not last for long.

The Rockhorn Beetle was a biological siege engine, a creature forged for singular, overwhelming forward momentum. The meticulous, pacing dance of the other apex predators grated against its primal instincts.

The agonizing, residual burns from the High Shaman’s lightning storm throbbed beneath its thick chitin, demanding immediate retribution.

It couldn’t take the stalemate any longer.

With a deafening, clicking screech that vibrated the mud, the Beetle completely abandoned the coordinated ring. It lowered its massive, branching horn, dug its six heavily armored legs deep into the earth, and unleashed its absolute, full-power charge.

Tons of petrified earth and mud were kicked high into the air as the living fortress accelerated to a terrifying speed, aiming to skewer the Warchief and trample her into a bloody paste.

Seeing the beast break formation, instead of worrying, the corner of Veylara’s mouth twitched upward into a cold, predatory smirk.

Finally, she thought.

Instead of bracing for the multi-ton impact or stepping in to counter, Veylara smoothly backed down. She glided backward with a terrifying, fluid grace, perfectly matching the Beetle’s initial acceleration to keep herself just inches out of its lethal reach.

The Beetle, blinded by its own rage and the illusion that its prey was fleeing, pushed even harder. Its tunnel vision narrowed entirely onto the Warchief as It continued its relentless charge, tearing a massive, deep trench through the battlefield, crushing countless beasts underneath, but it didn’t care, it was far too angry to care about that right now.

…

In its fury, the beast failed to realize it had completely left the company of the other four Sovereigns. The gap widened… twenty yards, forty yards, then sixty. The impregnable, overlapping formation of the five Behemoths had been broken by a single thread of impatience.

The moment the Beetle was thoroughly isolated from its pack, Veylara’s retreat abruptly halted.

She smoothly and heroically turned around, her boots slammed down, locking into the bedrock beneath the mud with the immovability of a mountain.

The sudden reversal of momentum was so violent it sent a storm of mud flying all around her.

But she didn’t stay there, and kicked off the ground and charged forward, her spear aimed straight towards the beast.

But she didn’t aim for the beast’s impenetrable, domed carapace or the massive horn that acted as its shield. As she charged, she continuously changed the positions to confuse the beetle, before, she leveled her obsidian spear, the dark petrified wood vibrating with a lethal high frequency as it tore through the air, and pointed it straight toward the narrow, vulnerable gap where the Beetle’s compound eyes met its armored plating.

Above her, the White Tiger phantom also fully manifested.

The massive, ethereal beast let out an earth-shattering roar, matching the Warchief’s charge perfectly. As Veylara thrust her spear, the White Tiger lunged, its massive jaws opening wide, its ethereal fangs overlaid perfectly with the tip of her weapon.

The collision was catastrophic.

The White Tiger’s raw, Layer 4 essence slammed into the Beetle’s essence, completely shattering the beast’s defensive pressure. Veylara’s obsidian spear smoothly bypassed the heavy horn entirely, driving deep into the cluster of the Beetle’s compound eyes.

The sickening sound of rupturing fluid and cracking internal chitin echoed sharply in the whole battlefield. The spear sank three feet deep into the beast’s skull.

For a moment it felt like time had stopped as Veylara heroically stood on Beetle’s face like some Valkyrie, her hair fluttered in the air, even the sun gave her a spotlight, as a single ray of sunlight broke free from clouds and fell over her, illuminating her form even better.

Then finally, the beast’s brain registered the excruciating pain and it let out a horrific, high-pitched shriek of absolute agony, sound waves reaching far and wide, as Veynar warriors watched stunned, the women and kids hiding deep in the Veynar, even Sol stopped his maniac slaughter to look at her heroic look, and felt his heart thump a beat higher than what it should be right now.

All he could say was “so fucking cool.”

On the other hand, Rockhorn Beetle’s massive momentum violently buckled, its front legs momentarily giving out as the spear scrambled the outer edges of its brain. Thick, viscous, yellowish-green ichor erupted from the wound like a geyser, splattering across Veylara’s armor.

Veylara twisted the spear, preparing to channel a burst of essence to completely obliterate the beast’s brain stem and finish the kill.

But well, seems like fate had other plans.

A large shadow suddenly fell over her. The Nightfang Wolf had closed the sixty-yard gap with terrifying, fast-twitch speed. Its massive jaws snapped shut directly where Veylara’s body had been a fraction of a second before. Simultaneously, the Silent Fang Mantis appeared from the peripheral gloom, its scythe cleaving the air in a silent, lethal arc aimed to cut her in half.
