Vampire Progenitor System

The world didn’t just stop. It froze.

The crack in Remu’s barrier halted mid-splinter. The Hellfire on Daniel’s fists hung in the air, unmoving. The sneer on the descending adversary’s face was locked in place. Ken was caught mid-snarl, Angel in a half-turn, Mob with his wings partially spread. Not a single sound existed.

In the center of it all, suspended in time, Lucifer hung on his knees. The violent struggle inside him reached a crescendo, and then… snapped.

A chime, clean and final, rang through the core of his being.

The notifications scrolled through his mind, not as words he read, but as truths he simply knew. The agony of the merge was gone. In its place was a profound, terrifying stillness, and a well of power so deep he couldn’t see the bottom.

He looked down at his hands. The tremors were gone. His skin, which had been flickering with heat and chill, was now smooth, pale, and radiated a subtle, cool strength. He flexed his fingers. Shadows responded instantly, not as separate entities, but as an extension of his will, curling around his wrist like living tattoos.

He stood.

The movement was effortless. He was taller. He felt the difference in his center of gravity, in the reach of his arms. He raised a hand to his head. His hair, which had been stark white since his first awakening, was now black as a starless night. He didn’t need a mirror to know his eyes still burned red.

The frozen world around him was a painting of impending violence. He could see the strain on Remu’s face as her barrier failed, the determination in Ken’s eyes, the calculating fury in Daniel’s posture. The adversary hanging in the sky looked less threatening now, just a figure paused on a stage.

He had time. Subjective time.

He walked over to Daniel first. The black, vein-like infection from the scavenger’s needle had crawled up to Daniel’s shoulder. Lucifer reached out. His shadow, now feeling more like a liquid part of his own flesh, extended and touched the corruption. With a thought, he rejected it. The foreign energy hissed and dissolved, the black veins receding until only the puncture wounds remained. He couldn’t heal Daniel fully—that wasn’t his power—but he could purge the poison.

He moved to Remu’s barrier. The crack was deep. He placed his palm against the inside of the shimmering dome. His own energy, calm and vast, flowed into the structure. The crack sealed itself, stronger than before, the violet light tinged with a deep crimson hue.

He looked at Ken, at Angel, at Mob. His friends. His anchors. He couldn’t interact with them in this state. This was his moment alone.

He turned his gaze inward, to the new forms available to him.

Progenitor Form. He was in it now. It felt… right. Like putting on a perfectly fitted suit of armor he was born wearing. The power of the Crimson Night wasn’t a skill anymore; it was his breath, his heartbeat.

Devil Trigger. He felt the potential coiled low in his gut—a hotter, wilder, more arrogant power. The demon blood, now fully acknowledged and integrated, offered raw, destructive force. He could sense the shape of horns, the weight of a tail, the infernal heat of wings made of flame and shadow.

Hybrid State. Just thinking about it made the air around his unfrozen body warp slightly. That was the fusion. The Crimson Devil. It promised power that could break continents, but it felt like holding a star in his hands—beautiful, catastrophic, and impossible to maintain for long.

He dismissed the thoughts. That was for later.

The final notification lingered in his awareness. Pseudo-Divine. Path to Godhood.

He wasn’t sure he wanted to be a god. But he wanted the power to break one.

The subjective time was ending. He could feel the stasis field beginning to thin, reality straining to resume its flow.

He walked back to his original position, kneeling again, assuming the same pose as when the world stopped. He closed his eyes, centering himself, preparing for the chaos to resume.

The last echo of the system chimed softly.

[Welcome, Progenitor.]

Time snapped back.

—CRACK—

The sound was Remu’s barrier finally giving way, but not shattering—it dissolved in a shower of crimson and violet light, having served its purpose.

”—die halfway!” The adversary’s taunt finished, its smile still in place as it descended.

But everything was different.

Daniel, mid-swing at the scavenger, stumbled as the corruption in his arm vanished. ”What the—?”

Ken, braced for impact, blinked. ”Huh?”

The scavenger lunged at Lucifer, needles aimed at his heart.

Lucifer opened his eyes.

He didn’t move. He didn’t summon shadows.

He just looked at it.

A pressure erupted from him, invisible and absolute. It wasn’t an attack. It was a proclamation of existence. The scavenger hit that wall of passive pressure and stopped dead, needles inches from Lucifer’s chest, vibrating as if straining against an immovable force.

Its featureless head tilted, confused.

Lucifer stood up. Slowly. Deliberately.

Everyone stared.

The black hair. The increased height. The impossible, dense calm that surrounded him. The way the shadows on the ground bowed toward him without being called.

”You…” Ken breathed, his fighter’s instinct trying to process the new threat… who was his friend.

Angel’s flames died out completely, her eyes wide. ”Luce?”

The Heart of the Blood Moon, which had been pulsing erratically, suddenly beat once—a deep, harmonious THUMP—and shot toward Lucifer. It didn’t strike him. It merged with him, dissolving into a glow that sank into his chest. A new, steady pulse joined his heartbeat.

The Chalice of Yurek rose fully from the fissure and floated to his side, hovering like a loyal hound.

The adversary in the sky finally lost its smile. ”Impossible. The evolution… it stabilized? Now?”

Lucifer finally spoke. His voice was the same, but layered, like two voices speaking in unison—one cool and familiar, one deeper and resonant with power. ”You’re late.”

He lifted his hand, palm up, toward the scavenger still trying to pierce his intangible aura.

”Leave.”

The word was a command woven into reality. The scavenger’s body distorted, then unraveled like thread being pulled from a tapestry. It made no sound as it was unmade, its essence scattering into harmless motes of dark light that were swallowed by Lucifer’s shadow.

Daniel whistled lowly. ”Okay. That’s new.”

The adversary above snarled. It wasn’t alone now. The other tears in the sky disgorged more of its kind—a dozen adversaries, all radiating malice and ancient power. They circled above, a council of vultures.

”Progenitor or not, you’re still one against many!” the lead one shouted.

Lucifer looked up at them. For the first time, a true, cold smile touched his lips. It wasn’t a friendly expression.

”You keep saying that,” he said. Then he raised his voice, not shouting, but projecting with a clarity that rolled across the frozen battlefield. ”Heron.”

Heron was already moving, cutting down a lesser creature that had unfrozen. ”Master.”

”The allied forces are to hold position and defend only. Do not engage the primary hostiles.”

Heron didn’t question it. ”Understood.”

Lucifer’s gaze swept over Ken, Angel, Mob, Dera, Remu, Daniel. ”You six. With me.”

Ken cracked his neck, a fierce grin spreading across his face. ”Now you’re talking.”

Angel reignited her flames, burning brighter. ”Took you long enough to get up.”

Mob simply nodded, his wings giving a metallic snap as he fully extended them.

Dera flipped her knives. ”Finally.”

Remu looked at Lucifer, really looked at him, seeing the black hair, feeling the ocean-deep power. A flicker of her old defiance surfaced. ”Don’t expect me to call you ’master.’”

”I expect you to fight,” Lucifer replied, not looking at her. ”That’s all.”

Daniel flexed his newly-cleaned arm, hellfire bursting to life again. ”So we’re jumping into the sky? I’m in.”

Lucifer looked up at the circling adversaries. ”No,” he said. ”We’re not going up.”

He took a single step forward, and the ground beneath him darkened in a wide circle.

”We’re bringing them down.”

He raised both hands. The shadows around them didn’t leap upward. They plunged downward, spearing into the earth. But they weren’t digging. They were pulling.

The sky above the adversaries warped. Not because Lucifer was attacking the sky, but because he was manipulating the concept of ’above’ and ’below’ around them.

The lead adversary’s eyes widened. ”What are you—?”

Gravity inverted.

Not for the whole world. Just for a perfect, cylindrical column of space containing the dozen adversaries.

One second they were hovering menacingly.

The next, they were slammed downward like stones, not by force, but by the ground itself becoming the sky for them. They crashed into the ruined plaza in a tangled, brutal heap of limbs and shock.

Before the dust could clear, Lucifer was moving.

”Now,” he said.

And his small, deadly team shot forward as one, a blade aimed straight at the heart of the fallen enemy pack. The real fight, the Progenitor-level fight, had finally begun.
