Sword of Dawnbreaker

Chapter 1033: Chapter 1032: The End of Eternity

The aging black dragon, heavily mechanized and modified, and the golden dragon adorned with numerous magic symbols suddenly charged out of the battlefield, heading towards the southern coast of the Talronde Continent, during the most intense moments of this doomsday battle. Their sudden movement immediately drew the attention of the ”Dragon of Chaos” that obscured the sky.

In the sky, thick chaotic clouds violently rolled, surging like boiling hot soup, with one bolt of lightning after another brewing deep within the cloud layers. Below the clouds, the divine conglomerate, vast enough to cover an entire city and formed of countless chaotic limbs and indeterminate substances, roared thunderously. Around its enormous body, even light visibly distorted. This supreme master of Talronde for millions of years, the ”gods” created by the Dragonkin themselves, seemed to realize the rebellious act those two dragons intended by suddenly leaving the battlefield. Though it had lost all reason, it displayed an earth-shattering fury.

The sky tore open, and a rift stretching across the firmament appeared over the Talronde Continent. Inside the rift, innumerable eyes cast icy cold glances at the Dragon Kingdom, which was already ablaze, while hundreds of tongues and throats howled within it. The Dragon of Chaos clung upside down on the edge of the rift, casting a crazed look towards Heragor and Andar. Under the watchful gaze of these ”gods,” the continent’s edge began to crack, steel melted, barriers vanished into thin air, and mighty missiles were swallowed by shadow manipulation before they could reach the divine. This was a destructive gaze, even exceeding the bounds of mortal comprehension.

Yet Omega’s resistance came in an instant: dragon legions charged from afar, swiftly filling the voids dissolved by the gaze of the gods. An even larger array of weaponry was activated between the distant mountain ranges, unleashing the remaining ammunition into the rift behind the Dragon of Chaos. The weather controllers, originally used to maintain ecological balance, were reactivated, summoning the forces of storms, thunder, and rain to contend with the gradually cracking sky...

Heragor and Andar rushed towards the sea, pursued relentlessly by eyes of destruction at their backs. Even with the sacrifice of thousands of compatriots and countless autonomous weapons trying to intercept, they felt the shadow of death was ever-present. Behind them, the continent burned, the sea boiled, thunder and lightning tore through the dark clouds, and several times Heragor felt burning pain from the scales on his tail, yet he never once turned back.

The Dragonkin waited 1.87 million years for this chance, and turning back now would be the end of it all.

This terrifying flight continued for an unknown duration. Heragor and Andar broke through Talronde’s borders, left the Dragon Kingdom’s coastal waters, and emerged from the frozen Arctic Ocean. Countless glaciers shattered behind them, numerous islands collapsed, and the fury of the gods reached across the vast distance unmitigated. Finally, before them appeared a grand ”curtain.”

A towering wall of clouds slowly rotated above the sea, appearing sluggish, yet every moment lethal cyclones and violent storms brewed and formed around it. The hurricanes lifted tens of thousands of tons of seawater. The looming storms forced even legendary powerhouses to retreat. They had reached the edge of the Eternal Storm, the final boundary between the Dragon Kingdom and the human world.

With no hesitation, Heragor and Andar charged directly into the raging storm. The ”gods’ wrath” from Talronde followed closely, colliding with that heavenly wall of cloud. Yet this time, the seemingly all-destructive wrath of the gods did not easily cleave through the obstacles before it. The ever-spinning thick cloud wall seemed to harbor an incredible power, which began contending with the wrath of the gods, and the two forces quickly reached a deadlock.

Inside the Eternal Storm, lightning and thunder continued, torrential rain poured, and the fierce air currents carried icy winds and crystals capable of instantly killing robust monsters. Nonetheless, for Andar and Heragor, it was as if a spring breeze.

Compared to the ”gaze” of gods’ fury outside, the environment within the Eternal Storm could be described as gentle.

The golden dragon and the black dragon circled the storm twice, exchanged a glance mid-air, and then, without hesitation, descended towards the deepest ”base” of the storm.

Through hurricanes, torrential rain, and the ancient unceasing vortex, Heragor was struck by a momentary illusion—he seemed to have returned 1.87 million years ago, back to his first expedition to this battleground. Raising his eyes, it was as if he saw groups of dragons flying in from the clouds, golden light casting on their long and strong bodies, the endless sea below, and battling warriors preparing for combat on ironclad giant ships and floating strongholds...

Yet a lightning bolt abruptly shattered at close range, tearing apart all his memories. Heragor opened his eyes to see only chaos and cold storms raging around him, accompanied only by his old friend, whose aging, mechanized body had left his scales pale.

Heragor opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the next instant, he felt himself pass through an invisible ”veil”—after a slightly icy sensation, all sounds around him disappeared, and the world turned silent.

He had entered the base of the Eternal Storm, into the deepest part of a secret realm sealed for 1.87 million years.

In the dark blue space, all things were frozen in a distant past. The dark seawater was solidified as if frozen, countless distorted and grotesque ”images of gods” maintained their attacking stance at the edge of the space, and the poses of Dragon Herd were also frozen, becoming part of this time-frozen illusion. At the center of all this, at the very heart of this time-stopped space, the elegantly white ”tower” made of metal still stood silently above the sea.

The posture aimed at the Firmament remains deeply etched in the minds of Heragor and Andar to this day.

Andar and Heragor glided along the sea surface towards the direction of the tower. This space was so quiet that the sound of wings cutting through the air was the only sound here, but soon, a different sound reached the ears of the two dragons—it was like the brittle sound of a crystal gradually cracking, softly coming through, yet it stood out in this tranquil space.

Heragor instinctively looked up, seeing thin cracks spreading across the semi-transparent ”shell” above the time-stopped space. Outside the shell, chaotic shadows slowly rotated, and intangible light streams appeared within the dense ocean waters.

Andar’s voice came from beside him: ”He is assaulting this space... I thought it could hold for longer here.”

Heragor’s voice was low: ”1.87 million years ago, it could not withstand Him; today, 1.87 million years later, it is still impossible—but it doesn’t matter, everything has changed, history will not repeat itself here.”

As they spoke, they had already crossed the last circle of metal rings surrounding the ”tower,” approaching a platform on the upper part of the tower. They descended towards it, and in mid-air, the dragon forms quickly transformed—in the blink of an eye, the massive dragon bodies took on human forms.

Heragor steadily landed on the edge of a crescent-shaped platform, and beside him, Andar’s figure also followed and descended—but the elderly councilor staggered and nearly fell on the last step of the descent.

Heragor quickly reached out to support Andar, who stood up straight and shook his head with a smile: ”I haven’t flown for so many years... It was okay when Omega controlled us, but now, I can hardly land properly.”

Heragor merely patted Andar’s shoulder; then he looked up towards the end of the platform.

A figure clad in a pale golden robe stood there, and as Heragor’s gaze turned in that direction, it seemed the figure turned its head slightly—but it was only an illusion. In the next second, the figure vanished silently into the air.

That was him, from 1.87 million years ago—leaving nothing but an illusion here.

Andar quietly watched the scene, seemingly wanting to speak, but in the end, all his words turned into a soft sigh. He shook his head, took a step forward, and Heragor followed closely—they crossed to the front end of the platform, passing the place where the vanished figure once stood.

A few minutes later, they had traversed the curved passageway at the other end of the platform, and following the route recalled from memory, they finally reached the end of a staircase near the highest point of the ”tower.”

A massive gate stood silently before them, and beside it, stood a middle-aged man with gray short hair, a high jutting nose, and a resolute face—the ruler of the Sacred Dragon Kingdom, Duke Balogar Knal.

”I didn’t expect you’d arrive already,” Heragor smiled as he saw the other, ”It’s been a long time.”

”It’s been a long time,” Balogar’s gaze moved between Heragor and Andar, and a rare smile appeared on his usually overly serious face, ”I thought you might not find this place—I even considered lighting up the way to guide you when I saw you flying in.”

”Actually, I also thought I wouldn’t find this place...” Heragor closed his eyes gently, a smile appearing on his face, ”But with closed eyes, everything here is still so clear.”

”Let the sentiment end here, we need to complete the final step,” Andar’s aged and deep voice interrupted Heragor and Balogar’s nostalgia, ”Balogar, have you checked it?”

”While waiting for you, I briefly checked inside: the combined stasis effects of the Eternal Storm and the Goddess of the Night have halted everything here, time hasn’t destroyed our labor—it is still in good condition as ever, without a trace of aging. I successfully activated the elevator to the deep layer and the energy unit of the deep layer, which slightly loosened the current space-time. I think this means we are ready to depart.”

Heragor looked into Balogar’s eyes and couldn’t help but say, ”After all these years, you are still the best mechanic...”

”Thank you for your praise, leader.” Balogar replied, stepping aside slightly and making a gesture of invitation, ”Let’s go—we three have been away from our posts for too long.”

The ancient and heavy gate silently opened, and in this static space-time, the years spanning eighteen hundred seventy thousand hadn’t corroded the miracle the dragons once created with all their might—Andar and Heragor stepped through the gate, continuously illuminating the lights as they entered.

Balogar followed closely behind.

They traversed a short corridor and passed through a connector which was overly large for humans, arriving at a circular platform where a cylindrical elevator waited.

Lights flickered on the elevator surface, and concise symbols marked useful information on the clean alloy shell—this style was completely different from the luxurious and decadent Talronde eighteen hundred seventy thousand years later; Heragor hadn’t seen it for many years.

The elevator descended silently, sending the three dragonkin in human form deep into the ”tower”, through layers of isolation barriers and heavy gates, the descent lasting a full half-minute before stopping at a vast control room-like place.

After stepping out of the elevator, the lights before Heragor brightened synchronously, revealing a spacious hall with pillars in ancient dragonkin style, among which many seats were arranged, all as they were in his memories.

They quickly found their seats—three seats positioned prominently at the hall’s front end, still as new as ever despite the long passage of time.

A slight tremor came from outside, hinting at a chilling malice and crazed energy, immense beyond mortal imagination.

Yet compared to the past million odd years, this energy was immensely weakened, to the extent Heragor could resist it with sheer willpower.

He knew this ”weakening” came at a significant cost.

The three did not converse, but silently moved forward, sitting in their respective chairs. Balogar began operating many buttons before him, Andar initiated his responsible system, while Heragor placed his hand on a crystal protrusion at his seat, finely manipulating numerous magic power circuits within the crystal—thus, an ancient creation began awakening from its dormant state.

Before them, a massive curved window brightened, becoming a projection screen showcasing the outside scene, where one could see the sky near the ”tower”, the permeating light, and the phantom dragons hovering in the stationary sky.

Andar’s gaze involuntarily fell upon the phantom dragon herd, his hand hovering near a panel to the right of his seat, yet before executing his operation, he couldn’t help but softly say, ”Want to take one last look? Once we launch, we’ll never see them again.”

Heragor’s gaze also fell upon those past phantasms, and within those images, he found many familiar figures—former friends, lovers, children... names flowing through his heart slowly, those lost in the Defiant War eighteen hundred seventy thousand years ago, yet he closed his eyes.

”Navigator Andar, I authorize you to activate the engine—let these phantasms be freed, as they’ve long resided in our hearts.”

”Yes, Captain.”

Andar took a deep breath and activated the system’s final procedure.

The next moment, a deep rumbling emanated from within this colossal and ancient beast, the hall’s vibrations signaling the long-delayed ”first voyage” after millions of years was finally commencing.

Heragor sensed a smooth yet firm acceleration.

Outside, the static space-time of eighteen hundred seventy thousand years began to unravel, the sea began to churn, ancient phantasms gradually dispersed, and the metallic ”tower” at the vortex’s center started slowly ascending—its full form hidden in the deep-sea gradually emerged, first the blade-like bow pointing skyward, followed by the towering hull, then the auxiliary engine arrays at the midsection, bulging reactor systems, antennas and radar systems, and the large main engine exhausts...

This is no tower.

This is a spacecraft.
