Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 333: Chapter 333 Persuasion by Every Possible Means

If it had been before, when Qi Taiguo said this, Mother Qi would probably have calmed down instantly—her son was, of course, important!

But now, her grandson was even more important!

She was not about to let him gloss over the matter—her grandson, her eldest grandson!

Mother Qi hmphed, ”The Qi family’s bloodline is all good, enviable by others. Don’t think you can pull the wool over my eyes. Just because you can’t become a high-ranking officer and she can’t become a university student, doesn’t mean we don’t want my grandson or that he’s worth less.”

”That’s not what I mean. Things are good now, but we want them to be even better in the future,” explained Qi Taiguo with a headache, yet he forced himself to be patient and continued, ”Mom, you grew up in hardship too. When raising us siblings, you were also reluctant to eat and dress well just to bring us up. We’ve suffered for two generations already, do we really want the third generation to suffer too?”

Mentioning the past hardships touched Mother Qi’s heart. It was so difficult, especially during those two years of disaster and famine, so dire that even edible clay was something to be greedily consumed.

Even after having children, life was still tough. The household was poor, without money. Every stitch had to be carefully considered and used, a single bite of food had to be split into two to make do. If it weren’t for those circumstances, Qi Taiguo would not have ended up in a rushed marriage arrangement with the Cheng family due to not having money to treat a broken leg.

This was a shameful and embarrassing secret of the Qi family that was difficult to speak of.

All these were due to poverty, lack of money, hardship!

Qi Taiguo, observantly gauging his mother’s reaction and seeing her softening attitude, continued, ”Right now my monthly allowance is only ninety yuan, and I’m married with a little family to support. But Jianguo and Fengping are still studying. I can’t just watch them without books to read, can I?”

Upon hearing this, Mother Qi’s breathing hitched and she said forcefully, ”The family has land to farm, can we not afford to support them?”

”Support them, it’s not that we can’t. Mom, the times are different now; things have gotten better. They are in school, and can’t just wear the same set of clothes every day without spares, right? They’re in high school now, but what about when they go to university? Won’t the expenses be even greater?” Qi Taiguo said, ”If we have children now, with my meager allowance, I can take care of one thing, but not my siblings. What should we do about that?”

Mother Qi frowned deeply and said, ”In the past, when we barely had anything to eat or drink, didn’t I still manage to raise you all?”

”Your hard work is admirable, and all of us siblings are grateful. In the future, we’ll certainly take care of you in your old age; rest assured!” Qi Taiguo said hastily, with Qi Fenglian chiming in from beside him.

Mother Qi hmphed, her stern face finally relaxing.

Qi Taiguo added, ”Look, we need money for everything. Cheng Su also needs it; she has just started her restaurant business, and it’s only beginning to pick up. It won’t make much money at first. But if it runs for a longer time, naturally, we’ll save up. Then, when we have children later, could we still let them suffer? They would be born with a golden spoon in their mouth, and you and dad won’t have to worry about them at all, just enjoy playing with them every day. Don’t you think that would be better?”

Thinking of the scenario described by Qi Taiguo, Mother Qi felt tempted, but she didn’t show it on her face, instead asking, ”Tell me the truth, when exactly have you two planned to have children?”

There’s hope!

Qi Taiguo’s heart lightened up. He tentatively held up four fingers but seeing Mother Qi’s widened eyes, he quickly retracted one and said, ”Within three years, we’ll have a grandson for you. By then, Jianguo and the others will have gone to college, and you and dad will be free to come and help us take care of the child, alright?”
