The Villian Who Broke The Story

The academy had grown quieter as the first semester approached its end.

Most students had already begun making plans for the upcoming break. Some were discussing the semester party, others were talking about returning to their families, while a few were already making arrangements for additional training.

Zion Crawford had done none of those things.

He stood alone outside the Virtual Simulation Room, staring at the sealed metal doors.

His hands rested inside his pockets.

His expression was calm.

But his eyes told a different story.

Kael Draven.

That name had been occupying his thoughts for far too long.

Ever since the tournament, Zion had replayed their battle more times than he cared to admit. He had studied every movement he could remember, every change in Kael’s stance, every adjustment he made during their fight.

And yet, the more Zion thought about it, the less satisfied he became.

Kael had defeated him.

That alone wasn’t what bothered him.

What bothered Zion was how quickly Kael had adapted.

It was almost as if fighting him had forced Kael to understand him.

Zion entered the simulation room.

The operator sitting behind the control desk looked up.

”Young Master Zion. You’re here again?”

Zion nodded.

”I need a training opponent.”

The operator smiled.

”Another ranked opponent?”

”No.”

Zion paused.

”Kael Draven.”

The operator’s fingers stopped moving.

”Again?”

”Yes.”

The operator looked at him for several seconds.

”You’ve already fought him.”

”I know.”

”And you lost.”

”I know.”

The operator slowly leaned back in his chair.

”Then why are you asking for him again?”

Zion looked toward the center of the room.

”Because I haven’t beaten him.”

The operator couldn’t argue with that.

He turned toward the controls.

”Very well. What conditions?”

”Same equipment.”

”Gravity?”

”Six times.”

The operator’s eyebrows rose.

”You want the full training conditions?”

Zion nodded.

”Yes.”

The operator hesitated.

”Kael’s simulation has been modified several times. Which version do you want?”

”The most recent one.”

”Understood.”

The room began changing.

The metallic floor expanded.

Walls disappeared.

The simulation constructed an enormous training arena.

Six times normal gravity settled over the room.

Zion’s shoulders immediately lowered slightly under the pressure.

He took one step.

Then another.

His body had already become accustomed to the weight.

He reached for his sword.

The operator entered the final command.

”Simulation commencing.”

The lights went dark.

A figure appeared on the opposite side of the arena.

Black hair.

Crimson eyes.

A familiar expression of complete indifference.

Kael.

The simulated version stared at Zion.

It didn’t speak.

It didn’t need to.

Zion raised his sword.

The simulated Kael did the same.

For a moment, neither moved.

Then—

Zion disappeared.

His body shot forward.

The first strike came directly toward Kael’s shoulder.

Kael moved.

The blade passed beside his uniform.

Zion immediately changed direction.

Second strike.

Third.

Fourth.

The simulated Kael avoided every one.

Zion’s eyes narrowed.

He knew this pattern.

Kael wasn’t simply reacting.

He was reading his movements.

Zion twisted his wrist and changed the angle of his next slash halfway through the motion.

Kael blocked.

The collision sent a metallic crack across the arena.

Zion stepped back.

The simulated Kael didn’t pursue.

It simply stood there.

Waiting.

Zion’s grip tightened.

”You’re irritating.”

The simulated Kael obviously didn’t respond.

Zion moved again.

This time, he didn’t attack immediately.

He circled.

The simulated Kael followed.

Both swords remained raised.

Zion watched the smallest movements.

Kael’s shoulders.

His feet.

His wrists.

His breathing.

Everything.

Then Zion attacked.

The first form of the Celestial Sword Art.

A clean horizontal slash.

Kael blocked.

Second form.

A downward strike.

Kael stepped aside.

Third form.

A thrust.

Kael turned his body and allowed the blade to pass.

Fourth form.

Zion’s sword swept upward.

Kael’s blade intercepted it.

The two weapons locked.

Zion pushed.

Kael pushed back.

For a moment, their faces were only inches apart.

The simulation’s Kael looked exactly like the real one.

That calm expression.

Those crimson eyes.

That irritating confidence.

Zion suddenly released the pressure and stepped away.

The simulated Kael followed immediately.

Zion’s eyes sharpened.

There.

He had found something.

Kael’s movements weren’t identical to his own.

They were based on the combat data recorded from the real Kael.

The simulation could reproduce his fighting style.

But it couldn’t reproduce the decisions Kael would make in the moment.

That meant there was a weakness.

Zion rushed forward.

Fifth form.

Sixth form.

The two sword techniques collided.

The arena filled with the sound of steel.

Zion’s breathing became heavier.

The sixfold gravity wasn’t helping.

Neither was the fact that his opponent fought exactly like the person he was trying to surpass.

The simulated Kael suddenly stepped inside his guard.

Zion’s eyes widened.

A strike slammed into his chest.

He was thrown backward.

His boots scraped against the floor.

Zion recovered before falling.

He looked down.

The simulation had registered damage.

He wiped a small streak of blood from his lip.

Then he smiled.

”Good.”

The simulated Kael rushed him.

Zion met him head-on.

Their swords collided.

The impact shook the arena.

Zion used the first six forms repeatedly, combining them instead of following their usual order.

The simulated Kael adjusted.

Zion changed again.

The simulation adjusted.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Neither side gained a decisive advantage.

Outside the arena, the operator stared at the data.

”His performance is improving.”

Another operator glanced at the screen.

”He’s adapting to the simulation.”

”No.”

The first operator shook his head.

”He’s adapting to Kael.”

Inside the arena, Zion suddenly lowered his sword.

The simulated Kael stopped.

Zion breathed heavily.

His eyes remained fixed on the opponent.

He understood something now.

Kael’s greatest advantage wasn’t simply his physical ability.

It wasn’t his Darkness mana.

It wasn’t even his strange adaptability.

It was his ability to change.

Every time someone figured him out, Kael changed.

Every time an opponent created a strategy, Kael found a way around it.

Zion had always thought the solution was simple.

Become stronger.

But strength alone wouldn’t be enough.

He needed to become harder to predict.

The simulated Kael attacked again.

Zion stepped forward.

Seventh form.

The arena changed.

Even the operators outside reacted.

One of them immediately leaned forward.

”He’s using the Seventh Form.”

The other operator frowned.

”But Kael doesn’t have access to that form.”

”Exactly.”

Zion’s sword moved.

The Seventh Form of the Celestial Sword Art was different from the previous forms.

It demanded greater control.

Greater precision.

Greater understanding.

The blade seemed to disappear for a moment.

The simulated Kael raised his sword.

Too late.

Zion’s strike landed.

The simulation flashed red.

Kael’s body was pushed backward.

Zion didn’t celebrate.

He knew better.

The simulated Kael stood again.

Its eyes remained fixed on him.

Then it changed.

The simulated opponent suddenly accelerated.

Zion barely blocked the incoming strike.

Another.

Another.

Another.

Zion’s feet were forced backward.

The simulated Kael was no longer following the recorded pattern.

It was responding to Zion’s use of the Seventh Form.

Zion’s eyes widened.

The simulation was learning.

He gritted his teeth.

”Fine.”

He stepped forward.

The two swords collided again.

Zion used the Seventh Form.

Kael countered.

Zion changed the angle.

Kael adapted.

The battle became faster.

The sixfold gravity that had once felt oppressive had become irrelevant.

There were only two swordsmen now.

One real.

One simulated.

One trying to surpass the other.

The fight continued until Zion’s sword was finally knocked from his hand.

It struck the ground.

Silence.

The simulated Kael stood over him.

Zion remained still for several seconds.

Then the simulation ended.

The arena vanished.

Normal gravity returned.

Zion stood alone in the empty room.

The operator spoke through the intercom.

”Simulation complete.”

Zion looked at the floor.

”What was the result?”

”Kael wins.”

Zion nodded.

He expected that.

But there was something different in his expression.

He wasn’t disappointed.

He was satisfied.

Because this time, he had learned something.

He walked toward the exit.

The operator called after him.

”Zion.”

He stopped.

”You want another round?”

Zion looked back.

”No.”

The operator seemed surprised.

”Why not?”

Zion picked up his sword.

”Because I know what I need to work on now.”

He walked toward the door.

The operator watched him leave.

Then he looked back at the simulation records.

The screen still displayed Kael’s final stance.

The operator frowned.

”Those two...”

He shook his head.

”They’re going to be a problem.”

Outside, Zion walked down the hallway.

His mind was already moving.

The upcoming Interhigh Tournament was no longer just another competition.

Auriella wanted Kael’s position.

Kael was growing stronger.

And Zion had no intention of remaining behind either of them.

He looked down at the weight bands around his wrists.

Then tightened them.

”If you’re going to stay ahead of me, Kael...”

Zion’s eyes hardened.

”...then I’ll just have to catch you.”

He continued walking.

Behind him, the Virtual Simulation Room remained silent.

But inside its memory core, the image of Kael remained frozen on the screen.

The opponent Zion had failed to defeat.

The opponent he intended to fight again.
