Reincarnated With A Glitched System: Why Is My MP Not Running Out?

Chapter 1778: The Past Of The Assassin Hero 2

-----

Back then, he couldn’t forgive himself for what he had done. Something he did almost automatically when his master said, ”Do it.”

He couldn’t believe what he had done with his own two hands. Taking the life of the only girl who had ever loved him back then.

His world shattered into pieces, the last fragments of his sanity slowly disappearing, falling apart.

”I’m sorry! I don’t know why I did this...! I-I didn’t want to do this...! I-I...! Patricia...! Don’t die...! Patricia...!”

Despite what Shade had done, Patricia slowly moved her hand toward his head, caressing his face and wiping his tears.

Even though he had stabbed her stomach, the girl wasn’t angry at him. And when she saw him crying, she understood there was still...

”So you... you have... emotions... Shade...”

Even as blood dripped from her mouth, she smiled lightly through tears. Deep down, she knew she would eventually be killed. This was the kind of job she worked in.

But in the end, she felt slightly happy that it was him who killed her and nobody else.

”You... you’re a... a person... not a... tool... You’re not... a mons...ter...”

”P-Patricia...”

As Shade’s eyes widened in that moment, his master walked to his side, patting his shoulders. His obsessive smile was visible through the shadows encompassing him.

”Well done.”

”...!”

Shade looked at his master, his eyes filled with disbelief and hatred.

But then, he felt Patricia’s hand slowly fall as she stopped caressing his face.

Her warmth slowly disappeared.

As she stopped breathing, her body became cold.

Her beautiful emerald eyes looked at the night sky, the moonlight reflecting in her lifeless pupils.

”W-What have I done...?! What have I done?! No...! Haaah...! Haaah...! No...! No...! No! NO! NO! NO!!!”

He grabbed Patricia, carrying her in his arms as he continued crying, cursing himself, hating himself.

This world, his life, everything.

It felt so horrible, so terrible, so pointless, so agonizing.

”AAAAAAAARRGGGHHH!”

As he screamed, his aura grew stronger. The pain he felt, the emotions of anger, loss, and sorrow triggered his powers to reach new heights.

”Yes...! That’s it! Just what we designed to happen! Good!”

His master laughed as Shade’s powers, in that moment, fully awakened. The Abyssal Embodiment turned him into a gigantic, wolf-like monstrosity.

”HAHAHAHA! MY MAGNUS OPUS! YOU’VE BEEN PERFECTED! COMPLETED, MY WEAPON!”

”GRRRHHH...! GRAAAAHHHH!”

Shade roared furiously, gently placing Patricia’s body on the ground with his darkness while directing his crimson eyes at his master.

”What is it?! Are you unhappy?! It was thanks to us that you’ve attained your perfected form! Your powers are now fully awakened. The last Darkage shall be our ultimate weapon against the Demons!”

”GRAAAAHHHHHHH!!!”

However, Shade didn’t listen. Completely berserk, he charged at his master. His gigantic claws, merged with his knives, unleashed a barrage of attacks.

CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!

RUMBLE!

The forest around them trembled, trees falling one after another as his master evaded his attacks, trying to escape his rampage.

”You dare attack me?! I am your master! You damned failure of a weapon! You lot! Why aren’t you helping me?!”

His master glared at the other assassins watching the scene from the woods.

And yet, no one did anything.

”Y-You bastards...! I am your master!”

”...”

”...”

”...”

”D-Don’t tell me...?!”

And in that moment, Shade’s master realized he was also a tool, after all.

Just as he had manipulated Patricia and Shade, orchestrating this entire event to awaken Shade’s Darkage Bloodline, he too was a tool designed for that purpose. And once done, he had to be disposed of by his own creation.

As he fought desperately, he quickly realized that even as a Tier 7 Assassin, he was completely overwhelmed by Shade, whose power seemed to grow the more sorrow he felt.

”Hah... Hahahah...! So I was a tool after all, huh? And now... I fulfill... my purpose...”

His crimson eyes watched as Shade’s jaws rushed down. The darkness encompassing him revealed someone similar to Shade himself.

With white hair, crimson eyes, but much older.

”Killed by my own bastard son... Hahah... That’s... what I deserve... I suppose.”

”GRAAAAHHHHH!!!”

CRAAASH!

Shade, consumed by grief, pain, and anger, became a monster, mauling his master, who he later learned was his own father.

It was not until the next morning, after he woke up surrounded by blood and flesh, that he regained consciousness.

”We greet our new Master.”

”Please, guide us through the path to protect our Kingdom.”

”Master Shade.”

Surrounded by assassins bowing before him...

”...”

He looked at them, his face devoid of emotion.

No.

Perhaps his eyes carried a fragment of sorrow within his crimson pupils.

”...”

He walked toward his beloved’s body, slowly and silently carrying her away.

While the assassins watched in confusion, he dug a hole and placed her inside.

After shedding one last tear he buried her.

”Goodbye...”

He placed a stone over the grave, with her name carved on it.

And at that moment, he also left himself behind, never to be the same again.

For many years, he walked the path of darkness after killing the only person who ever loved him when he was only thirteen.

Killing, killing, and killing even more efficiently than before.

This was the only thing he could do now, the only thing he knew.

Until, at a meeting with one of the church representatives...

”Shade, you’ve been chosen as the Hero of Shadows... You will now gather with the other heroes and go on a journey to become stronger so you can slay the Demon King.”

”...Hero? Me?”

”Yes.”

”...That doesn’t make any sense.”

”...Isn’t it better this way? You will always be closer to them, to the heroes. Be happy, you will be praised as a hero while still working in the dark for us.”

”...”

”Rejoice, Shade!”

”...There hasn’t been a single reason for me to ever smile for over ten years, and I doubt there will ever be. My happiness... died with her.”

”Y-You...”

”If you want me to kill someone, I’ll kill them, Demon King or not... I don’t need anybody to help me. And I will kill those who dare get in my way.”

Shade’s crimson eyes glared at the priest, who took a step back.

”Understood?”

”Y-Yes...”
