Chapter 986 – Crazed Auction

....
“Explore? What nonsense are you spouting?” Endless Scars rolled her eyes at Drifting Bean. “Gather all available resources immediately! We must secure as many priority entry slots as possible before the other powers react!”

“But, Commander, the Eternal Chamber of Commerce will criticize you if we use that many resources to bid for Zero Wing’s priority entry slots,” Drifting Bean said worriedly. “You might even lose your Elder position if your competitors join hands.”

Endless Scars’s status as an Elder of the Eternal Chamber of Commerce was one of the main reasons the Blood Wing adventurer team could achieve its current success in the Angel Sanctuary. As the Nebula Consortium was one of the Eternal Chamber of Commerce’s shareholders, overtly supporting Zero Wing was akin to going against the Eternal Chamber of Commerce.

If Blood Wing were to spend large amounts of resources to buy the primordial civilization city’s priority entry slots, Endless Scars’s competitors in the Eternal Chamber of Commerce would not hesitate to use this opportunity to strip her of her Elder qualifications. Should Endless Scars lose her status in the Eternal Chamber of Commerce, Blood Wing would have difficulty surviving in the Angel Sanctuary.

“So what?” At Drifting Bean’s concern, Endless Scars retorted nonchalantly, “Might is right in God’s Domain. Now that the primordial civilization city is connected to such an incredible Realm, the status quo in the Eternal Realm and the Greater God’s Domain is bound to undergo tremendous changes. If we can establish a foothold in this city, Eternal will come to us for help, not the other way around!”

Anyone who wasn’t a fool could tell the significance of the primordial civilization city. It would most certainly become the center of the Eternal Realm and the unknown Realm in the future. If Blood Wing could establish a foothold in the city, the adventurer team would have a lot of initiative in establishing partnerships with the powers of both Realms. She’d have to be an utter fool to miss such an opportunity.

Moreover, the unknown Realm had an overwhelming advantage over the Greater God’s Domain when it came to leveling up to Level 240. If Blood Wing could rely on this advantage to mass-produce Level 240 players, her authority in the Eternal Chamber of Commerce would skyrocket. She would no longer have to fear the Nebula Consortium at that time. After all, the relationship between apex powers and the Nebula Consortium leaned more toward mutual cooperation. Even if the Nebula Consortium held shares in the Eternal Chamber of Commerce, Eternal was by no means a subordinate of Nebula.

Realization dawned upon Drifting Bean at Endless Scars’s explanation. Immediately, she gathered all the God Crystals and Life Potions in Blood Wing’s possession.

As the adventurer teams and independent players who came to the primordial civilization city raised God Crystals and Life Potions at all costs, the auction for the city’s priority entry slots commenced to thundering applause in the Zero Wing Auction House.

…

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Zero Wing Auction House. I will be your host for today’s auction,” Blackie introduced himself to the audience as he stood on the stage.

Surprise and joy filled Blackie when he saw the packed auction hall. Although none of the attendees came from the Eternal Realm’s major powers, he found it surprising that so many independent players would appear. After all, the minimum bid for the upcoming auction was one God Crystal. It was not a price the average player could afford.

“Zero Wing will lease 10,000 priority entry slots for the primordial civilization city today. The lease lasts one month, and customers who place a successful bid today will receive preference in next month’s auction. Under the same bidding price, old customers will have priority.”

Everyone in the auction hall grew excited at Blackie’s announcement.

Originally, everyone thought they would have to compete fiercely every month for the primordial civilization city’s priority entry slots. Although having priority bidding rights didn’t guarantee them victory, any advantage was better than no advantage in the upcoming auctions.

“Without further ado, we will start by auctioning 100 slots! All customers are free to bid on each of the 100 slots for ten seconds! After ten seconds, the highest bidder for each slot will be the winner! The starting price for each slot is one God Crystal or 100 bottles of our local world’s Life Potion! Each increment may not be less than one God Crystal or 100 bottles of Life Potion!”

As soon as Blackie finished speaking, the 100,000-plus players in the auction hall began placing bids through the system frantically.

“The Strong Mountain adventurer team will bid three God Crystals per slot! These first 100 slots are ours!”

“Three God Crystals?! What gives you the nerve to call out such a price?! I’m buying 20 slots for five God Crystals each!”

“I’m bidding 600 bottles of Life Potion! I just want one slot!”

None of the players hesitated to bid on the first 100 priority entry slots. Even the adventurer teams in attendance did not adopt a wait-and-see approach. In just a few seconds, even the lowest bid had already reached 500 bottles of Life Potion, while the highest reached ten God Crystals. The attendees’ feeding frenzy completely exceeded Blackie’s expectations.

“Madness! This is madness!”

“Isn’t it just a one-month rental? Do you people have to go to such lengths? Why don’t you guys let me have this first batch for five God Crystals per slot? There are still 9,900 slots to go anyway! The price will fall later!”

“Old man, who do you think you’re fooling?! Everyone here has come prepared! The price will only go up the further we get into the auction! I’m bidding 600 bottles per slot for all 100 slots!”

As the ten-second time limit drew closer, every bidder grew anxious. Many even started to persuade others to give up on the current batch.

However, nobody present listened to the advice of those around them. Everyone kept raising the prices of the first 100 slots.

When the closing bell rang, some attendees rejoiced while others grew dejected.

“How are these people so rich?! I bid 800 bottles of Life Potion per slot, yet I didn’t win a single bid?! Are these people Zero Wing’s shills?!” Drifting Bean was dumbfounded when the system informed her that all 100 of her bids had lost.

In preparation for the auction, Endless Scars had exercised her authority and connections to obtain 100,000 bottles of Life Potion. This was virtually all the Life Potions the Blood Wing adventurer team could muster.

Originally, Drifting Bean thought they could secure at least a few hundred slots with this many Life Potions. However, they had failed to secure even one slot despite bidding 80,000 bottles for 100 slots. This outcome was utterly incomprehensible.

Whether it was 800 bottles of Life Potion or eight God Crystals, neither was a sum accessible to the average expert player. Many players might not even consume 800 bottles of Life Potion within their lifetimes. Yet, such an amount wasn’t enough to secure even one of the primordial civilization city’s priority entry slots. Drifting Bean refused to believe there wasn’t shill bidding involved!

“Commit all 100,000 bottles for the next 100 slots!” Endless Scars said, gritting her teeth.

“Understood!” At Endless Scars’s command, Drifting Bean placed her highest bid on the second batch at the very last second.

When the system alerted Drifting Bean that she had won all her bids, although she winced at how much she had just spent, she simultaneously felt relieved.

Endless Scars’s decision was proven to be wise as the auction progressed. Apart from the first batch’s 100 slots selling for nine God Crystals or 900 bottles of Life Potion each, none of the slots in the subsequent batches sold for less than ten God Crystals or 1,000 bottles of Life Potion. The crazed demand for the priority entry slots confused many people.

After the auction for the primordial civilization city’s priority entry slots concluded, news of it quickly reached the Eternal Realm’s various powers. Initially, these powers had expected the auction to become a joke. However, the reality made their jaws drop.
