She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 1622: Chapter 1699: Finding a Stepmom Is Too Difficult

”Why?” Sheng Ning asked, following his words.

”Because my dad is always busy matchmaking. He’s gone through all the ladies in England but hasn’t found anyone he values. I heard he’s going to France and Spain today to meet his cousins. Honestly, my dad has a super, super large number of female cousins!”

Sheng Ning knew this. European aristocrats have been intermarrying for hundreds of years. Not only are the familial relations complicated, but they might have multiple layers of kinship with each other.

”Aren’t you upset?” Sheng Ning was a bit worried that the Duke might find Lin En a stepmom who wouldn’t be good to him.

”Nope.” The little kid seemed amused, ”Although my dad is always trying to find me a stepmother, I think he definitely won’t succeed. He might stay single forever.”

Teasing your father about being a bachelor forever, that’s quite rare. If Amber knew, she’d be heartbroken, although she also feels the same way.

”You don’t know how picky my dad’s personality is; I seriously doubt he’ll ever find a wife.” Luckily, he was smart enough to arrange a childhood engagement early on.

”Uh...” He’s gone through all the ladies in England without finding a suitable one, and going through the ones in France and Spain will probably yield the same result. Now she thinks maybe Lin En is right.

”Young master shouldn’t spend too long on the phone! It’s not polite to the guests.” Amber advised diligently.

”Alright then! Goodbye, Auntie.” The little guy reluctantly hung up the phone.

No choice, even phone call times are strictly regulated within the castle.

*****

”Family Head.” Housekeeper Xing watched Sheng Ning talk for a long time before hanging up, smiling with satisfaction, ”Young master Lin En is truly adorable.”

”Indeed! I do miss him.” Having resolved the foreign exchange issue, the next step was planning the return trip. ”Housekeeper Xing, this time you stay behind and keep watch. I’ll take Zhenzhen with me back to the country. You’ll continue managing the business in the US while Zhenzhen will handle domestic business development; the young ones have drive.”

Originally, she intended to arrange for Housekeeper Xing to accompany her back and leave Zhenzhen behind, but now she didn’t want to do that. If Zhenzhen stayed in the US, her chances with Chen Yingjie would be almost nonexistent.

So she wanted to give Zhenzhen a chance. Regardless of the outcome, at least there was an opportunity. This was the best thing she could do for Zhenzhen.

Housekeeper Xing is quite the expert; though usually quiet, he’s been Mr. Feng’s trusted aide for many years, truly competent. If Sheng Ning could notice things, then Housekeeper Xing, working with Feng Zhenzhen daily, certainly could too.

When he heard Sheng Ning’s arrangement, he smiled with deep meaning.

”Thank you for the arrangement, Family Head.”

”No need to thank me, who knows what the outcome will be! Perhaps it won’t be a good thing for Zhenzhen.” Sheng Ning was a bit worried.

”By the way, let Ji Le Tian follow me back as well!”

”Yes!”

Sheng Ning paced back and forth in the study for two rounds; mentioning Zhenzhen earlier suddenly sparked two ideas. It was a moment of clarity, but it felt critical.

Housekeeper Xing knew this was her habit while thinking, so he didn’t urge and stood straight, waiting.

Suddenly, Sheng Ning stopped walking, a smile appearing on her beautiful face, ”Housekeeper Xing, I remember we have hospitals in Chinatown and Queen’s District, right? How is the medical standard?”
