She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 831: Chapter 871: Older Brother

Song Huwen’s home was in the South. In 1978, floods hit, and the Yangtze and Huai River basins were completely submerged. That year, she had just started high school and was in class when the flood suddenly rushed in, engulfing the entire school in an instant. At that moment, she clung tightly to her desk, floating in the water. Just as she was about to lose consciousness, a rescue brother descended from heaven and saved her.

To this day, she can still remember the broad chest of the rescue brother, giving her an infinite sense of security. Once ashore, she heard others greeting the rescue brother, only then realizing he was the captain, the youngest captain of his rank.

That person was Xu Qigang.

Since then, Song Huwen developed feelings for Xu Qigang and secretly gathered information about him. When she heard Xu Qigang was going on a rescue mission, she worried for a long time; when she heard he returned triumphantly, she was overjoyed. When she heard that female comrades were afraid of him, she hid under her covers and laughed secretly.

The female comrades feared him, giving her a chance. Those women were blind; how could they not recognize Xu Qigang’s virtues? He was so handsome and masculine, full of manly charm.

He was a war hero and, more importantly, a hero in her heart. When she had the opportunity to return, she was so excited that she couldn’t sleep for several days but had to maintain her composure in front of others. However, she didn’t expect to find out that he was already married when she arrived.

It was like a bolt from the blue. She couldn’t believe Xu Qigang was already married. When she found out Xu Qigang’s wife was the so-called Union Flower, she felt disdain in her heart.

She was just a country bumpkin, even if acknowledged by the Su Family, it couldn’t change her nature as a love child. Dancing was merely eating away at her youth. In terms of skills or education, she was confident in outshining her.

Song Huwen believed that, with her family background and conditions, Xu Qigang would notice her deep affection and recognize her virtues. But before that, she must be patient; after all, Qigang is a hero, and his marriage cannot be broken.

So she must find the best approach.

“Huwen, what are you thinking about? Why so lost in thought?” Hai Shen reached out and shook her, and Song Huwen immediately snapped back, giving an awkward smile.

“Sorry, I was just thinking about how our hospital doctors mentioned that Captain Xu’s injuries were particularly severe. Luckily, he was saved.”

“Yes! Luckily, he had a strong physique and a strong will to live. If it were anyone else, they probably wouldn’t have survived.” Mr. Hai sighed, “Luckily, he’s fine now, otherwise the turmoil would have been no less than when Meng Fan was involved. Alright, enough of this, you should go with Hai Shen in a couple of days.”

“Thank you, Grandpa, thank you, Cousin.”

“No need to be polite, we are all one family. You, girl, always keep a distance. Your mom has been married away for so many years and seldom comes back. Make sure she returns for the Dragon Boat Festival.”

“She will. When I left, Mom also said she misses you a lot.” Song Huwen secretly gritted her teeth, not thinking much of it. If they say family, why don’t they invite her to move back? Instead, they watch her live in the hospital dormitory?

Shen Feihu was the first to visit in the afternoon. His voice arrived before he did.

“I’ve been busy to death; you better hurry and recover, or else I’ll whip you with a lash.”

Sheng Ning heard his voice, quickly put down the book, and went to open the door for Shen Feihu.

“President!” She greeted formally.

Shen Feihu waved his hand casually, “No need to be formal.”
