Longevity through Upgrading Buildings

Chapter 286: Chapter 167: Demon Dao Attacks the City!

A bit of caution is necessary for the city defense, and it’s still appropriate to leave it to Liu Yuan.

...

Lishui City is adjacent to the Lihua River, reportedly named after a row of pear trees that once grew along its banks, which unfortunately were later swept away by a flood.

Currently, at the bottom of the Lihua River, six cultivators are sitting in a secret chamber.

Among them, a late-stage Foundation Establishment man sips from his wine cup and smiles slightly:

”First, we embezzle the treasure, then feign a cover-up with demon cultivators, and now a real demon cultivator attack on the city, truth and falsehood intertwined... Tsk, I must say, the old locust ghost’s method is truly brilliant.”

”What’s more brilliant is that the Water Dragon Sect still doesn’t know that Brother Qing Han is one of us in the Demon Dao.”

A bald man beside him strokes his head, laughing as he speaks.

”No.”

Isle Master Qing Han set down his wine cup, ”The Water Dragon Sect has somewhat discovered that I am a demon cultivator, otherwise they wouldn’t be pursuing me so relentlessly.”

”Remember, never underestimate the foundation and strength of the Six Great Immortal Sects of Shang Dong.”

”Yes.”

The other cultivators in attendance quickly nod in agreement.

Living in a righteous land while practicing the Demon Dao and still reaching Foundation Establishment... none of them are fools; on the contrary, each is extremely smart.

At this moment, a faint light flashed inside, transforming into the figure of a small man.

”Brother Qing Han, I just saw Wu Nanchun’s flying boat heading south.”

”Alright, it’s time for me to depart as well.”

Isle Master Qing Han immediately stood up, ”And remember, be extremely careful. Even though it’s three against one, don’t be careless.”

”Also, the city attack is minor, but be sure to find clues about that item.”

With those words, he left.

The remaining six exchanged glances, and finally, a short-haired woman in a light yellow dress spoke: ”According to previous intelligence, the ones staying inside the city for defense are Liu Yuan at mid-stage Foundation Establishment and Ji Yuan, who just recently reached Foundation Establishment.”

”Liu Yuan’s strength needs no words; he’s a force to be reckoned with at mid-stage Foundation Establishment. At that time, I, Brother Tu, and Brother Huang will jointly deal with him.”

The other two mid-stage Foundation Establishment demon cultivators gave a nod.

Among them was also that bald man.

Short-haired woman Feng Xiuxiu addressed the remaining three early-stage Foundation Establishment demon cultivators and said, ”As for Ji Yuan, leave him to you... As for this person, we’ve activated contacts within the Water Dragon Sect to inquire about him, but regardless of his Qi Cultivation Stage or Foundation Establishment Stage, information is extremely scarce.”

”But this doesn’t mean he lacks strength, only that his strength is unknown to others.”

”Facing such an enemy, be even more cautious, understand?”

”Heh, Sister Feng, rest assured. When the time comes, we’ll definitely give it our all,” the small man who just entered the door grinned.

”Exactly, it’s still three of us against one of him; the advantage remains ours... Everyone just do their best.”

”Mm.”

Feng Xiuxiu finally looked at a man in a purple robe sitting in the corner; her voice softened a bit as she spoke, ”Daoist Hu, the formation task is up to you.”

Upon hearing his name called, Hu Li raised his head and stroked his chin.

”My Tier Two Array can only be used to trap enemies. Liu Yuan’s swordsmanship is too strong; it probably would take only a few strikes to break through. I reckon it can at most be used against Ji Yuan.”

”That’ll do. Ji Yuan isn’t that old, having reached Foundation Establishment at this age... The odds of him also being proficient in formations are extremely low. When the time comes, quickly join forces to take him down. I suspect you may need to assist in the siege of Liu Yuan.”

”Sure, sure.”

After everyone finished speaking, Feng Xiuxiu gently clapped her hands together.

”Remember, that senior can only help us cover for half an hour. Once we act, there will be only half an hour left, and regardless of whether we find clues to that item, we must escape westward without coveting temporary benefit.”

”Yes!”

”That being the case, we’ll move at nightfall!”

”...”

The sun slanted westward, and Ji Yuan sat on the roof of the City Lord’s Mansion, watching the golden crow set.

As before, if there’s nothing to do, he would sit there watching the beautiful sunset over the Lihua River, just like today.

To Ji Yuan, it was just another uneventful day.

Until... an enormous flash of fire blasted a hole in the eastern city wall.

In almost an instant, Ji Yuan realized... there’s an attack!

The enemy is from within!

Because he understood the city defense array of Lishui City, it was a Tier Two protective array called the ”Curved Water Facing River Array,” with its hub placed on the eastern city wall.

Now the explosion happened exactly at that part of the wall—what a coincidence.

An attack!

And by enemies who are extremely familiar with the internals of Lishui City, considering Wu Nanchun’s departure at this moment... No further words needed, it’s a tactic to lure the tiger from its mountain.

Simple yet highly effective.

”It seems the Isle Master Qing Han has indeed come well-prepared.”

Ji Yuan summoned the low-grade spiritual artifact-level Sky Raider flying boat, ascending from above the City Lord’s Mansion.

In an instant, he could see enormous bursts of fire rising from the southeast, west, and north, and in every direction, there was rolling black smoke, with overwhelming gloomy energy.

In Ji Yuan’s mind echoed Liu Yuan’s voice transmission.

”Brother Ji, this is truly a demon cultivator attack on the city.”

”I’ve already sent a message to the sect and made a move first; handle things yourself!”

The words dropped.

Ji Yuan witnessed Liu Yuan taking action; it was his first time seeing this ”Isle Master Liu Yuan” in action... but in just a moment, he saw sword lights filling the sky across the city.

Liu Yuan at mid-stage Foundation Establishment, his strength was indeed formidable!

Watching this scene, Ji Yuan silently stepped back a bit, while his divine sense entered the storage bag.

Hua Yaoyue, Sect Leader Master Xuan Shui, Li Changhe, Phoenix Peach.

Ji Yuan activated the communication talismans of these four with his divine sense, the message being quite simple.

”I’m in Lishui City, and there’s a demon cultivator attack on the city!”

After completing the transmission, Ji Yuan released his divine sense, sweeping it in all directions, immediately discovering three early-stage Foundation Establishment demon cultivators heading straight for him from the southeast, north, and east.

Damn, surrounding me is it... Ji Yuan wouldn’t be foolish enough to exit from the west.

Especially since his divine sense swept over, discovering among these three, one was an old acquaintance.

With that thought, he stepped forward.

”Brother Hu Li, you better not disappoint me.”

”Inseparable Shadows” was activated, Ji Yuan’s form instantly vanished into the night.

Since reaching Foundation Establishment, it’s been two years, yet Ji Yuan hasn’t made a move once. He’s also curious about his current strength...

This time, at least he can test the waters!
