I Can Gain One Skill Point Per Second

Chapter 755: The Past and Grief

The White-Bearded Immortal Elder, as a Dungeon God, had his own unique pride.

But gods also walked the path of mortals before they ascended; they had once passed the test of the gods, and with time, the humanity within their hearts slowly resurfaced.

The fearless courage to defend one’s dignity had been abandoned long ago.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so terrified after Lin Yi merely pressed his shoulder.

”Th-that, uh, sir, do you, do you have any questions you want to ask? I, I...”

For the White-Bearded Immortal Elder, a calm and placid face seemed more suitable, yet now displaying a look of fear gave off a somewhat unsavory impression.

”Don’t dwell on it. On a planet like Blue Star, one of the lowest planes, those big shots won’t care what you say, but if you don’t tell me what I want to know, it’ll be a big problem.”

As Lin Yi spoke, he intensified the Divine Power emanating from his palm, filling the space with an even more dangerous atmosphere.

Lin Yi’s words made a lot of sense, at least according to the White-Bearded Immortal Elder’s thoughts.

He couldn’t even remember how long it had been since he took on the role of this Dungeon God on Blue Star.

What Lin Yi said was indeed true.

After becoming the Plane God of this low-level star system, those upstairs seemed to completely forget the existence of the White-Bearded Immortal Elder, showing no inclination to inquire whether there were suitable candidates emerging in the lower plane.

Now, with his life on the line, those upstairs showed no awareness. Was it truly worth sacrificing his life for those lofty figures?

Seemingly many questions, yet requiring no actual contemplation.

At the moment humanity took the lead, he had already made his choice.

”Sir! Sir! I get it, I promise I’ll tell you everything I know, just please don’t let your hand shake.”

Upon hearing this from the White-Bearded Immortal Elder, Lin Yi immediately displayed a satisfied smile.

”That’s the right way.”

Saying so, Lin Yi released his hand and once again activated [Interwoven Light and Shadow] to pull his three teammates to his side.

”Alright, let’s hear it.”

With no choice left, the White-Bearded Immortal Elder gathered his thoughts and shared everything he knew.

The story began ten thousand years ago.

On a lower-plane small planet countless light-years away from Blue Star, a young man, born into poverty but extraordinarily gifted, overcame numerous hardships and finally attained the position of War God.

Having no parents or support from a young age, relying solely on personal effort and destiny, he continuously climbed the ranks on the War God List, and just as he was about to reach the summit, he entered the 48-layer dungeon of the Descent Abyss.

But at that time, the Dungeon God of those 48 layers was not the White-Bearded Immortal Elder, but a creature with the head of a human and the body of a snake.

When this young man entered the dungeon alone, the Snake Head Dungeon God made his challenge more intriguing by allowing him to once again see his parents and the brothers who had fallen halfway.

The trial of humanity was still harsh.

The familiar faces the young man saw were illusions indistinguishable from reality with his existing power; he believed his loved ones had temporarily revived.

The Dungeon God gave the illusions and the young man a choice.

The young man could abandon his past, discard his humanity, and kill all his loved ones to gain divine approval and become a god.

Or he could let the temporarily revived loved ones kill him to exchange for their true resurrection.

Back then, the young man was unafraid of death.

He believed that providing a second life to his loved ones made all the hardships worthwhile, so he abandoned his current power, his future prospects, and chose to sacrifice his life without hesitation.

Unexpectedly, this choice earned him divine approval for his exceptional strength, and he obtained the Divine Seal from the Snake Head Dungeon God.

Although the young man could not resurrect those important to him, he gained the qualification to advance further.

In subsequent cultivation, empowered by the Divine Seal, he smoothly acquired the Power of the Primordial and developed his own Divine Power, ultimately ascending to godhood.

However, after becoming a god, the young man did not experience the joy connoted with it. The moment he truly obtained Divine Power, he became the substitute for the Snake Head Dungeon God.

The Snake Head Dungeon God informed him that developing Divine Power was not the endpoint of becoming a god but rather the first step.

To break free from the restraints of the plane, he not only needed to continuously enhance his strength but also find a successor who could maintain the orderly operation of the Three Realms and Six Paths.

In simpler terms, one can become a god, ascend within the hierarchy, but it requires progression step by step.

Upon joining the ranks of the gods in the Three Realms and the Immortals of All Heavens, starting from the lower ranks is necessary.

You have the possibility of promotion only after finding someone to take over your position.

As for the so-called Divine Seal, in modern terms, it’s akin to passing the initial test.

The young man diligently cultivated within the dungeon plane, continually increasing his strength, while seeking a suitable successor to whom he could grant a Divine Seal after passing the trial, facilitating faster cultivation and early official titular establishment to replace him.

As time passed, the young man began to gradually age; his youthful hair turned silver, even his beard grew long and white. Ultimately, he gave himself a name reflecting his image—the White-Bearded Immortal Elder.

The story, though brief, did not omit any significant details.

The rules set by the gods of All Heavens and Myriads of Worlds bore little difference from human societal structures on Blue Star.

Though there were many life forms on earth, excellent ones were few.

Choosing a few outstanding, compliant individuals to construct one’s own order is the essence of the Three Realms and Six Paths.

However, being a gatekeeper level god, the White-Bearded Immortal Elder had yet probably never experienced any benefits unique to Upper-Rank Gods, teetering through years of waiting, leaving him slightly disoriented.

He never expected that one day, a youth with godly power far surpassing his would enter the dungeon.

It gave him the illusion of having wasted thousands of years in vain.

After all, even if Lin Yi had begun cultivating from the womb, it added up to less than twenty-one years of life. To have achieved such feats in such a short span made the White-Bearded Immortal Elder’s faith in ascending to an Upper-Rank God in the higher plane waver.

Over the span of millennia, he lost his original intent, but at the moment when the dread of death enveloped his heart, he ultimately regained his humanity and submitted.

After hearing the White-Bearded Immortal Elder’s story, the four fell silent, beginning to understand his actions.

Ignoring the dungeon’s announcements to forcefully act against Lin Yi and his team now seemed a bit reasonable.

Trapped by ambition’s intangible chains within this dungeon for tens of thousands of years, who wouldn’t become unbalanced?
