Supreme Sword God

Chapter 492: Chapter 491: The Calamity of the Demon Beast, Utterly Bizarre!

”Ye Chen, that Xu Ziliu just now was actually a bit silly.”

The Little Phoenix perched on Ye Chen’s shoulder muttered.

Ye Chen held the Little Phoenix in his palm and said, ”What did you call me?”

”Ye Chen!”

”Hmm?”

”Big Brother!”

Black lines appeared on Ye Chen’s forehead. The Little Phoenix not only became violent but also had a rogue atmosphere.

”Who taught you that?” Ye Chen asked.

He thought Luo Qingyi wouldn’t tell the Little Phoenix such things.

The Little Phoenix said, ”Master Legs, he said he used to be called Big Brother, with many younger brothers behind him.”

Ye Chen chuckled and said, ”Don’t call me that anymore.”

If he’s the Little Bird’s Big Brother, wouldn’t that make him a Big Bird?

Although he indeed is big, he should remain humble.

”Oh, then I’ll just call you Ye Chen.”

”Alright, just call me Big Brother,” Ye Chen said helplessly.

Being called by his name by the Little Fat Bird feels disrespectful; Big Brother at least sounds better.

Then Ye Chen quickened his pace towards Frost City.

......

A tall city wall stood on the white earth.

The three vigorous characters of Frost City were carved into the main gate of the city wall, like a knife slicing it.

Ye Chen tossed the Little Phoenix into the Sword Tomb and walked to the city gate alone.

When he took out the True Martial Hall’s four-star True Martial Guard Token, the city guarding soldiers didn’t hesitate at all and immediately let him pass.

Ye Chen had no intention of hiding his identity.

He knew that the Blood Robe Tower had issued a Silver Assassination Token on him, so he might as well let their people come!

Ye Chen was someone who would repay a grudge, but the Blood Robe Tower’s assassins were deeply hidden, so finding them was unrealistic.

Might as well lure the assassins out, kill one if one comes, kill two if two come!

It’s just a Silver Assassination Token; those who take such assassination missions are almost all at the Unity Realm level.

Among the silver-level assassins, there are indeed those at the Heaven-Reaching Realm, but Ye Chen didn’t think a Heaven-Reaching Realm assassin would come to assassinate someone young like him at the Mortal Transformation Realm.

Even assassins have pride.

Normally, Blood Robe Tower’s assassins don’t like to assassinate targets weaker than themselves.

Because there’s no sense of accomplishment!

They like to assassinate targets stronger than themselves to demonstrate their assassination skill!

......

After entering Frost City, Ye Chen found that the large streets were surprisingly deserted. Occasionally he saw some people, but they all hurried along with expressions of fear and panic on their faces.

Moreover.

There were also many soldiers patrolling the streets.

Ye Chen immediately rushed to the City Lord’s Mansion at the fastest speed.

After arriving at the City Lord’s Mansion, an old butler led Ye Chen into a backyard and said, ”Young Master Ye, the City Lord still has some matters to attend to, but will come to see you as soon as he finishes. Please wait a moment.”

Ye Chen said, ”Old butler, tell me what’s going on. The task I received from the True Martial Hall only mentioned assisting in subduing a Yao beast at the Peak of Unity Realm, but Frost City seems to have other issues.”

The old butler said with a troubled expression, ”Young Master Ye, Frost City has become like this because of that Yao beast...

Alas!

The Yao beast has already infiltrated the city, but we just can’t find it...

These days, people have been constantly dying at the mouth of the Yao beast.

Actually, under normal circumstances, Frost City could handle it, but recently, there were outbreaks from the foreign races and the Demon Race, and Frost City sent heavy troops to participate, suffering heavy losses.

The City Lord is at the Heaven-Reaching Realm level, but he’s heavily injured, and his strength reduced to less than one-tenth...”

Ye Chen is well aware of the recent events involving the invasions by the foreign races and the Demons.

At that time, the three major foreign races descended on Soul-breaking Gorge en masse, and the Demon Race took action taking advantage of the opportunity.

Most of the power of the True Martial Hall went to Soul-breaking Gorge to resist the three major foreign races.

Many forces in Cangzhou were responsible for dealing with the Demon Race.

”How long has this been going on?” Ye Chen immediately asked.

The old butler said, ”It started about two months ago; initially, the Yao beast only attacked passersby near Frost City, so we didn’t pay much attention to it, just sent some soldiers to expel it.

But who would’ve thought that the Yao beast was highly venomous, and none of the soldiers we sent out came back alive.

Later, we started taking it seriously, but the Yao beast was extremely cunning, so it hid away, but it’s an undeniable threat, hence the City Lord issued a bounty and even sought help from the True Martial Hall.

Recently, people from various places came and worked for a long time. They found the Yao beast about half a month ago... and set up a net to capture it.

However, that action still ended in failure, and it even provoked retaliation from the Yao beast. It infiltrated Frost City, and even though the city has increased its vigilance several times over, at least a hundred people die every night!”

Ye Chen listened while slowly frowning.

He initially thought it was a very simple task, but it turned out to be so complex.

Moreover, Ye Chen noticed a critical issue.

The old butler in the City Lord’s Mansion had never detailed the Yao beast from start to finish!

”What kind of Yao beast is it?!” Ye Chen demanded.

The old butler looked troubled and said, ”I... I don’t know, even those who went to hunt it down haven’t seen its actual appearance...”

A cold light flashed in Ye Chen’s eyes as he said, ”This matter seems quite serious by now, doesn’t it? Logically, the chaos caused by the foreign races and Demon Race has been suppressed, so the True Martial Hall should be able to send strong fighters over. Why hasn’t Frost City reported it to them?”

Only this explanation could align with the current situation.

The information received by the True Martial Hall is the same as when he received the task, which is why they wouldn’t prioritize it. Otherwise, given the style of the True Martial Hall, they would send strong fighters to help solve it, even without compensation!

The old butler stammered, unable to answer.

At this moment, a voice came from behind the old butler.

”It’s not that Frost City is unwilling to seek assistance from the True Martial Hall, but someone over there is deliberately suppressing this matter.”

The old butler immediately turned around and bowed to the person approaching.

Ye Chen also looked at the newcomer.

The man appeared middle-aged, his temples frosted with white, and his face pale with a hint of sickness.

Ye Chen guessed the person’s identity.

This was the City Lord, Lv Baishuang!

”City Lord Lv,” Ye Chen cupped his hands and said, ”What you mean is that this matter might be related to some people in the True Martial Hall?”

Lv Baishuang shook his head and said, ”The True Martial Hall acts with integrity and high moral standing, they wouldn’t harm life in this manner. However, there are some parasites within the True Martial Hall who misuse their power to make things difficult for anyone seeking help from them.

The task reward you received mentions twenty thousand lower-grade Yuan Stones and several pills, but in reality, the cost paid by Frost City to have you True Martial Guards see this commission is multiple times the task reward!

So, it’s not that we don’t want to ask the True Martial Hall for help, but we can’t afford to.”

After hearing Lv Baishuang’s words, Ye Chen’s gaze flickered, and he said, ”City Lord Lv, shouldn’t these words be spoken to me?”

Such remarks would be more effective when said to some powerful figures in the True Martial Hall.

He was just an insignificant four-star True Martial Guard.

So, Ye Chen didn’t say anything more, just looked at Lv Baishuang, letting him continue to speak!
