Martial Arts: I Have Diligence Reward System

Chapter 560: Chapter 209: Remote Chief_4

This old man clearly doesn’t know about the Divine Land exchange group, nor has he seen me before.

But why can he guess that my surname is Gong?

In fact, not just this old man, even Fang Jingmiao doesn’t know my surname is Gong.

Gong Ling knows that her presence is particularly low.

Moreover, she hasn’t even participated in the scale test, let alone become famous worldwide.

”Is your grandfather named Gong Yuzhen?”

The old man asked the next question, trembling all over.

A gleam of brilliance shone in his cloudy eyeballs.

Upon hearing this, Gong Ling instinctively took a step back, her mind blank.

”My grandfather is not Gong Yuzhen.”

”Gong Yuzhen is my great-grandfather, and he died many years ago.”

Gong Ling was stunned for a few seconds before swallowing hard.

My grandfather is Gong Bai Chen.

Gong Yuzhen is my grandfather’s father.

Grandfather is almost 90 years old this year, great-grandfather married late, so calculating his age, he should be over 130 years old, long deceased.

”Great-granddaughter, yes, calculating the age, it should be great-granddaughter. I miscalculated in my nervousness.”

The old man found a chair to sit down, his eyes seeming a bit moist.

He looked at Gong Ling’s palms.

The people in the Gong Family have longer palms than others, and they are rather peculiar. Others might not see it, but someone with intent can distinguish it.

Gong Ling was even more perplexed.

But she calmed down instead.

Although grandfather’s life wasn’t remarkable, his achievements quite ordinary, until retirement, he was only a Fourth Grade.

Father is even less to mention, just a Second Grade Qi and Blood Martial Artist, long since chosen to go into business.

But in great-grandfather’s generation, more than 80 years ago, the Gong Family seemed to be a prestigious family.

And great-grandfather Gong Yuzhen was known as the chief long-range expert of the Divine Land.

He was the recognized strongest Divine Archer in the long-range department of Divine Land, so he was respectfully titled the chief Arrow God.

Actually, regarding Gong Yuzhen’s news, Gong Ling didn’t see many records until she went to the Warring States Military Academy.

In the Gong Family, he only knew the great-grandfather’s name was Gong Yuzhen.

Gong Ling vaguely remembers when she was little, her father once asked grandfather about great-grandfather.

As a result, that time grandfather was furious and severely lectured father.

Father was still unconvinced afterwards.

After all, great-grandfather was father’s own grandfather.

In Gong Ling’s heart, grandfather seemed to greatly resent great-grandfather.

But in the records at the Warring States Military Academy library, great-grandfather was a genuine Grandmaster-level expert back then.

The chief Arrow God of Divine Land was exaggeratedly praised.

There were even some articles saying grandfather was the global chief and had shot dead Ninth Grade experts of other races.

After all, great-grandfather who she had never met in her life, although Gong Ling was proud in her heart, it was still too distant, she didn’t take it too seriously.

After all, the Gong Family has declined now.

She tries her best to break through.

Bringing up things from 100 years ago is meaningless.

”This senior? Do you know my great-grandfather?”

Gong Ling cautiously asked again.

This old man was just holding back, but now tears were streaming down.

Did she evoke his sad memories?

”Alas, I never thought I’d see someone from the Gong Family in my lifetime, truly fate.”

The old man was very particular.

He took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his tears.

Gong Ling was moved in her heart.

A dignified person.

He was meticulous, unlike ordinary elders with their casual attire.

This old man, although his body is bent, still wears meticulously a casual outfit.

”Do you... know someone from the Gong Family?”

Gong Ling asked once more.

”I am Fang Liyan, a retired principal from Jiangwu, who likes to come to the library for peace during his free time.”

Fang Liyan took a deep breath, barely calming his breathing.

”You are...”

Gong Ling was startled.

Surname Fang?

This should be Jiangyuan Country’s royal family.

Thinking of Fang Liyan as the former principal of Jiangwu, Gong Ling was relieved.

The principal’s surname Fang is normal.

”Your great-grandfather Gong Yuzhen was my teacher.

”He died 20 years ago, and I personally saw him off.”

Mentioning Gong Yuzhen, Fang Liyan’s eyes misted once more.

Gong Ling was stiff all over.

Great-grandfather actually died in Jiangyuan Country.

This doesn’t make sense.

He was Divine Land’s chief Arrow God, grandfather was alive, father was alive, the Gong Family should have seen him off.

Of course, Gong Ling was just puzzled.

Honestly, she didn’t feel much sadness.

There’s no way, when great-grandfather died, she wasn’t even born. Compared to her grandfather, there was a lack of many family ties.

To say utterly heartbroken would be insincere, but Gong Ling was still somewhat uncomfortable.

How could great-grandfather have died in Jiangyuan Country?

”Back then, my master was assassinated by three Ninth Grade foreign races in a joint attack, but he ultimately escaped back to Divine Land.

”Unfortunately, his arms were cut off by foreign races, and his weapon was poisoned. His limbs could never be reconnected, rendering him useless as chief Arrow God of Divine Land.

”Back then, your great-grandfather’s father insisted on having your father teach at Wuda.

”But my master, with both arms crippled, was already weary of the world and wanted to live quietly. He didn’t want the Gong Family descendants to continue going to battle.

”He even forbade his son, your grandfather, from engaging much with archery. But your great-grandfather’s father resolutely refused to let my master escape, believing Divine Land’s interests were paramount, even to dying, he should die in the classroom, cultivating more martial talents for Divine Land.

”Thus, one night, your great-grandfather couldn’t bear the Gong Family’s pressure and fled to Jiangyuan Country.

”At that time, he was crippled in both arms, harbored internal injuries, and by chance, I saved him, thus knowing my master.”

Fang Liyan broadly narrated the reasons for Gong Yuzhen coming to Jiangyuan Country.

Gong Ling gasped.

Turns out, more than 100 years ago, there was such a story.

”Don’t blame your great-grandfather for escaping, nor blame his father for being cold-hearted.

”The world 100 years ago was completely different from now.

”Back then, Divine Land was in deep turmoil, and Jiangyuan Country was even more a purgatory.

”Your great-grandfather’s father had the most orthodox thinking; at that time, every warrior in Divine Land was willing to die fighting for Divine Land, dying without regret. Your great-grandfather was an escapee, thus an anomaly.

”And in that era, my master was somewhat selfish.

”He believed that after dedicating his entire life, the Gong Family descendants should enjoy peace and not die on the battlefield, which was like a meat grinder.

”But your great-grandfather’s father thought my master was treasonous, even wanting to expel him from the Gong Family.

”Thus, all his thoughts destroyed, master ultimately chose to spend his remaining life in Jiangyuan Country.”

Fang Liyan sighed.

”Every era has different circumstances, there’s no definite right or wrong.”

The atmosphere was silent for a few minutes, Gong Ling sighed.

Perhaps.

Grandfather hated great-grandfather because of his escape, perhaps.

Unexpectedly, there’s such a story about the Gong Family in Jiangyuan Country.

”Although I practiced long-range archery, master didn’t teach me any Gong Family archery skills. I only learned some other combat methods and ways to fight in wet environments from him.

”He firmly believed that only Gong Family bloodline could comprehend the strongest archery, and only Gong Family members deserved the global chief.”

Gong Ling was still in sorrow.

Fang Liyan suddenly said.
