Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1379: Firecracker

Cassarae rolled around, the sheets looking like theyʼd start strangling her if she did just one more half-roll. Bundled up like a little doll, her eyes suddenly opened to find Sylas looking at her.

”What are you looking at?”

”I canʼt look at my wife?” Sylas replied.

”That costs more than youʼve paid so far. I havenʼt even had a wedding.”

”Then letʼs have a wedding,” Sylas said almost too casually.

Cassarae was speechless for a moment, not knowing what to even say to that. Technically speaking, they were only recognized as married because this bastard went and added her to his nobility title in a System City back on Earth.

It was the most ridiculous thing she had ever seen, and the most infuriating thing about it was that it was actually necessary at the time. Having that noble title had helped her do a lot of things for Casstle Main… Speaking of which, it had been too long since she returned. She wasnʼt a person who liked being stuck in a single spot for too long in the first place. She was good at managing people and dealing with complicated social situations despite what her mouth seemed to suggest, but that didnʼt mean she liked doing it all.

Being so free of that world and letting her and Sylasʼ parents deal with everything on the mostly peaceful Earth now was actually how she preferred things.

She felt like if she stayed anchored down for too long, she would end up being left too far behind by Sylas.

”What nonsense are you talking about?”

”What? You didnʼt want a wedding?”

”A wedding is like step seventeen, you fucking bastard! Have you asked me out on a date? Have you swept me off my feet? Have you told me you loved me? Have you pulled out a ring and dropped down to one knee? What the fuck do you mean we should ʼjust have a weddingʼ?!”

Sylas looked at her for a long while as her chest heaved.

Sometimes it was a bit amusing to see her act like this. She knew what kind of person he was more intimately than anyone else, and yet she still sometimes insisted on trying to force him into some pigeonhole.

”I do love you.”

”Ah…”

Cassarae was ready to forge on with another string of curses, expecting Sylas to say something ridiculous, but the words she registered werenʼt the ones she was expecting.

Her spit went down the wrong pipe and she was suddenly coughing up a storm, heaving over the side of the bed.

Sylas patted her back for a bit before she finally seemed to relax.

”… Fuck you, Sylas.”

Sylas would have laughed if he was practically anyone else. What was that supposed to mean? Hadnʼt he said what she wanted?

Cassarae looked up, her eyes red from coughing—or at least it seemed.

”What did you do?” she asked straightforwardly.

Sylas tilted his head a bit, not understanding what she meant.

”Donʼt play that bullshit with me. What did you do? Tell me right now.”

The little girl was sitting in the Madness Key, having poofed up some Gene shards she stuffed into a bucket as though movie theater popcorn. She munched away, watching with rapt attention.

ʼSheʼs asking you who youʼve been nailing behind her back. Oh boy, oh boy, this is good.ʼ The little girl picked up a piece of Gene Rune and munched with a little too much fervor.

Hearing the little girlʼs words, the realization came to Sylas as well.

”Oh.”

”Oh?” Cassarae growled. ”What? If I didnʼt ask, you just werenʼt planning on saying anything?”

”Not exactly.”

”What the fuck is that supposed to mean, Sylas Brown?”

”Well, itʼs a bit peculiar, donʼt you think? Nyssa made sense because there was no time between when I met her and met you. The fact you could smell her was quite sharp of you, but within the realms of reason.

”This doesnʼt seem like that. It seems almost premonition-like. Your Class is more powerful than I thought.”

Cassarae literally built her Class by sensing and pointing out enemies for execution. The fact this ability was so strong that she could sense the formation of an enemy without even meeting them first… Well, that seemed to suggest that Sylas really couldnʼt get away with anything. But it also meant that her Class had exceptional potential, so much so that it bordered on reality bending.

It was just a simple thing, but Sylas should have known that a Class the Legendary System would go so far to protect couldnʼt possibly be simple in nature.

”I dare you to say one more ridiculous word, Sylas Brown. I will chop your balls off and eat them myself if I have to. If I had a fucking dog Iʼd feed them to it, but Iʼll settle for whipping them up in a blender and downing them in a strawberry smoothie. Try me, you cheating whore.”

The red in Cassaraeʼs eyes was practically forming blades. Her sword, leaning by a wall to the side, had already begun vibrating so much that strands of blade-like Aether were conjuring up storms in the air.

Sylas looked at her for a moment more before his lips parted.

”I used the body of a Demon to trigger an evolutionary autophagy in my body. It weeded out the impurities of my foundation and makes my current self almost feel as though I was born a D-Grade Race rather than only upgrading after birth.”

Cassarae was once again ready to explode before she slowed to a pause.

”You fucked… a Demon… are you serious…?”

Sylas understood what she meant immediately. The only Demons they knew of, even in this outside world and the wider Sector, were the monsters lurking under oneʼs bed as a child.

Ghouls, ogres, rotten creatures and things of the like. Someone in the form of the Duchess would be the furthest thing from Cassaraeʼs thoughts.

Suddenly, she whipped the bed sheets off of her and spread her legs wide, looking at her crotch in horror.

”I swear to god, Sylas Brown, if you gave me AIDs Iʼm exploding a firecracker in your ass.”
