Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1044  Iʼm Sure

Yaoyao slowly turned back toward Old Brama.

”… Youʼre insane,” she said slowly.

It would have been better if Old Brama had acted just to kill Sylas. To not only try and kill him, but to say this…

It was worse than any of them could have imagined.

Accusing Sylas of such a thing wasnʼt just throwing pig blood on his name, but that of Gralithʼs as well. Was Old Brama claiming that his eyes were sharper than the gaze of a top 100 combatant of the Sector? No, even if Gralith had been as weak as an ant, his eyes as a Rune Master were far superior to Old Bramaʼs, enough to shut up any discontent.

Taking a step back, even if Gralithʼs vision really was worse than Old Bramaʼs… who would dare accuse his disciple of such a thing?

It was worse than suicide.

Before, it was still possible for Gralith to just punish their Grove and then let matters go. But if Old Brama insisted on this, he would be running them into the ground.

”And what if Iʼm right?!” Old Brama barked, his white hair fluttering.

Yaoyao froze again. If Old Brama was right, then it wouldnʼt matter how powerful Gralith was. As powerful as Gralith was, he wasnʼt number one. But that wasnʼt the main issue.

The gap between 71st and 1st was enormous, but everyone knew Gralith split his focus. The main trouble would come from those higher tiers.

For a Charysm, the appearance of a B-Grade existence wasnʼt impossible at all.

For the sake of finding Sylasʼ origins, maybe even someone higher.

The chaos a Charysm could sow was too great. They had to be controlled, neutered, suppressed, and most importantly, their origins had to be uprooted in case they could cause any others to sprout.

…

With everything going so smoothly, Sylas could have never guessed that things would end up like this.

A familiar anger bubbled up within him.

Be strong.

It was the same thing every time. No matter how smart he was, how perfectly he had planned, how much information he had on hand, it never seemed like enough.

He didnʼt even know what this Charysm nonsense was. But he could guess as to why he might be mistaken for one.

He had Demonic Will, and his Charisma was especially powerful. After he got his eyes, his Charisma leaked into the world involuntarily unless he took control of it and reined it in.

With how powerful his Will was now, he had to be even more intentional about it. Otherwise, he would be wasting away his own Will too much.

His Demonic Will clearly had a heavy influence on his Charisma as well. Both halves played well with one another, and he could tell that his Demonic Will was influencing his Charisma, something that only became more obvious after he crossed another Will threshold.

But he didnʼt care if Old Brama had good reason to make such a mistake. It wasnʼt what he was focused on right now at all.

He pushed those thoughts down, burying his fury deep and regaining the calm of his mind.

ʼIʼll make him pay eventually.ʼ

These words soothed Sylasʼ thrumming Demonic Will. As though a contract had been signed, it accepted the oath and slotted itself away, returning to calm.

Sylas only allowed a sliver of his conscious thoughts to pay attention to the room at all. He didnʼt have the luxury of being so free. But… there was another pair of eyes watching from deep within him.

Gogo.

With the upgrade to Sylasʼ Will, his Progenitor Flame Abilities seemed to have taken another leap forward. Now, the line between the planes seemed to blur, and Sylasʼ Contracts could see the world through their connection all on their own.

All most could feel, though, was the radiant coldness coming from Sylas. After the first few coughs, he had fallen into silence. As for Yaoyao, she seemed completely unable to answer the question. Instead, it was Niafon who spoke.

”You really have lost your mind. Iʼll be making a motion to—.”

”Charysm, is it? I havenʼt heard such a name in a very long time…”

The voice was soft and soothing, difficult to place as either man or woman immediately, until one settled into an understanding that it was certainly a man with a voice that just so happened to be on the gentler side.

There was an echo of flapping wings and then a flutter. It was a graceful, gentle sound, almost like one might imagine a doveʼs landing to echo like. And yet, the man hadnʼt landed at all. He just hung in the skies, his wings unmoving, and yet his body firmly positioned above them all nonetheless.

The man had skin as flawless as dew, eyes as bright as stars, and a disposition that made him feel both friendly and homely. His horns curled to the back of his head, a slight wrinkle splitting the middle of his forehead.

Thryskai.

No, a Thryskai Demi-God.

Standing there, he tilted his head to the side.

”I came to see if you all had considered what I said last, but it seems this might not be the right time.”

The Thryskaiʼs gaze shifted to Sylas, and the latter felt a strong Will sweep over him.

”Heʼs Human. Mystery solved. Now, shall we get to business?”

Old Bramaʼs brows trembled. There were a million ways to explain why Gralith wouldnʼt know, but this man… that was impossible.

”I donʼt want to make things too hostile between all of us. Iʼm sure you know that the situation has changed now,” the Thryskai clicked his tongue. ”I donʼt know the current Scorpion Warlord personally, but I do know that all Warlords have explosive tempers. Iʼm sure you also know that those that follow Beast Mancy Paths are also especially sensitive about being compared to Demons.

”Now, according to the rules, I canʼt personally act in this Sector. But now, thereʼs a convenient way for me to do so, donʼt you think?”

The Thryskaiʼs smile became almost sickly sweet. Everything about him was so perfect it was hard to find fault.

But his words were more venomous than anything that could be fathomed.

”Iʼm sure you all know what to do, now, right?”
