Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1002  Unexpected

Sylas unceremoniously took the flag on Lady Movʼs person and the one they were fighting over, bringing his total up to four. This meant that he just needed one more before he succeeded.

Also, because he had four, the odds that anyone would be able to catch up to him were slim to none. This last one, though, he would have to take from a group as there were no longer any others that were being fought over.

Obviously… Sylas chose to take the easy route.

Why would he fight a battle of life and death if he didnʼt have to?

His goal here wasnʼt even the bazaar, as useful as it would be to him. His main goal was drawing out a certain individual. The question was… whether they would appear or not.

ʼTeam Slug it is.ʼ

Sylas pivoted and shot off in that direction.

**

Jala looked at the screen, his expression placid. He didnʼt feel surprised at all when Sylas shot up to first in less than half a day. It felt like it was only natural.

This was what he always did.

Sylas might have killed someone very near and important to him, but while that made Jala hate him to the very core, that didnʼt change his assessment of that man. At that point, that wouldnʼt be being strong, it would be being foolish.

There was no way that Sylas would suddenly become an incompetent man just because Jala was angry with him. If anything, Jala had to overestimate him now as much as possible.

ʼI can feel a strong Luck stirring the pot in this world. But strong Lucks, especially in the hands of those that donʼt fully understand them or how they work, can be manipulated. If you have more information than them, it can even be predicted. He will definitely appear here, and when the fifth flag is claimed, thereʼll be a chance.ʼ

The words of the figure echoed in Jalaʼs ears as he stood in silence, his eyes slowly shifting to the item in his hand.

—

[Heavenʼs Wrath]

—

That was all he could see even with his Treasures. The figure didnʼt tell him what it was or what it did, but Jalaʼs eyes hadnʼt been able to come off of the Heaven part.

He knew what it meant, what it represented.

There were a few words that were never used for items of the current system, words that referred to a world long since passed.

Words like Cultivation… Dao… Heaven.

They were almost taboo to the current system. This Treasure, as a result, could have only come from the Legendary System. But that would only make it all the more difficult to use…

And also make it a ticking time bomb.

Treasures like this had to be used very carefully, especially when the system was literally out hunting for everyone and everything that pissed it off nowadays.

He had heard that this Level 30 bazaar was giving away a Treasure with the word Dao in it, but it seemed that Lorien had somehow gotten her hands on it. As for what happened after the fact, he had no idea.

Given her state at the hands of Sylas… it was probably in Sylasʼ hands now.

Jala rolled the bead over his hands, the Aether within it moving around like the snow in a snow globe. His expression only seemed to be getting calmer and calmer.

ʼGreat grandfather owes a debt to this man… ”Us”… ”Demon Spawn”… What do these things mean…?ʼ

Who was the ʼusʼ the man referred to, and what did Sylas have to do with a ʼDemon Spawnʼ? Was Sylas a Demon?

No, that was impossible, the system would never allow that.

Did Sylas have close relations with a Demon? Was that the reason for his great strength?

Jala had felt something very odd from Sylasʼ Will. It was far fuller and more solid than any he had ever seen before. But by the same token, it didnʼt feel… Demonic.

Suddenly, Jala looked up. From a far-off distance, standing exactly three kilometers away, a battle had been triggered. Sylas appeared like a ghost and suddenly began unleashing a rampage of emerald lightning.

The figure had told him to stand this far away, probably because this was a distance that Sylas couldnʼt sense him from. If it was outside the range of his visualization, then his Luck would also be dulled so long as he wasnʼt watching out for anything.

But could Sylas possibly not be watching out?

Impossible.

The figureʼs words had already exposed himself. After all, he said that he felt Luck stirring things. This didnʼt seem to imply anything special, except for the fact he was also so cautious to not tell Jala anything about the Treasure in his palms.

Jala was no fool. He could tell when he was being manipulated.

If he activated this thing, he would probably die right here and now too. A part of him just wanted to pocket it and see if the figure had the balls to try and stop him. Wasnʼt he scared of the system right now?

But… something also told him that while he wasnʼt a fool, neither was the figure, and Sylas certainly was not either.

Three intelligent individuals in a standoff against one another. The question was how would he deal with this situation? What were the plans of the figure in case he just took this and tried to run?

ʼHeavenʼs Wrath… Letʼs find out, then.ʼ

Jala suddenly poured his Aether into the ancient Treasure with a violent momentum. However, it wasnʼt aimed toward Sylas at all, nor was it aimed toward where he hoped the figure would be hiding and observing.

No. At that moment, Jala did something that only a true madman would do. The only thing he felt that the figure couldnʼt have possibly predicted.

He turned the Treasure on himself.

He had no idea what the Treasure did, or what it represented. It could very well smite him and kill him on the spot.

The way he saw it, even if he died, the path the figure had leading back to his family was cut off.

And if he didnʼt die… he would have done something to really piss that bastard off.

”No!”

Jala grinned wildly when the voice boomed in his ears.
