Sylas looked at this screen calmly, not reacting immediately. There was still something off about this.

—

[What is a Warlordʼs Veil?]

[A Veil is a special sort of System Link capable of being formed after oneʼs Will reaches the Tangible Will. This can be used to trigger a Quest or a Quicktime Event.]

[A Warlord Veil is a special Veil that can only be triggered within a Warlordʼs Territory. It gives them strong control over the Fate of their Territory and allows them to sway the direction of things. It is essentially akin to a new roll of the dice to reset or improve things.]

—

A System Link…

Sylas had run into them quite a few times now. The System Contracts were one, the System Oath was another, and now the System Veil.

While it sounded complicated, a System Veil boiled down to giving a person a small ability to trigger a Quest through using the system as a medium.

Eness had done something similar, giving Sylas a small Quest for just cleaning her shop. The reward had been so small Sylas never even bothered to double-check it after seeing what it was the first time.

Of course, that and this case were not the same. Eness should be a spawn of the system and would only have the ability to trigger these Quests very acutely and on a small scale. These were often called Spawn Veils, but in this specific case, they were known as Acute Spawn Veils.

This situation, though… was very different.

Professor Broussard was using a Warlord Veil to change the Fate of his Territory. If he succeeded, he would likely get a chance to reverse all the damage done by the salt water and deal with his enemies in one fell swoop.

But Sylas still felt like there was something missing.

The system wouldnʼt just hand out something like this for free, even if you were a Warlord. Of course, killing Professor Broussard was one of the requirements, but given the fact that Professor Broussard was the Warlord of this Territory, would it be fair if all he had to do was survive till the end of the timer as well?

That didnʼt make much sense at all.

The fact that Professor Broussard could obscure the true Quicktime Event once…

Didnʼt that mean that he could do it again?

There was definitely a far larger challenge here.

The only way to save this beautiful land is hidden away deep within the earth. Find it and claim supremacy.

The line practically burned into Sylasʼ retinas.

But he still didnʼt move.

He just stood there, his posture relatively relaxed, his muscles not tensed in the slightest, his gaze even and unmoved. It looked as though he could have stood there forever, as though it didnʼt matter very much what Professor Broussard tried to do at all.

In the end, there would only be one outcome.

Professor Broussard didnʼt seem to be in much of a rush either, his smile hanging from his face.

Then they began to appear, one after another.

From the shadows.

From swirling portals.

Some even from the ground.

Individuals with shocking power. Levels beyond what should be possible for the current stage of Earth, all surrounding Professor Broussard as they manifested.

”How about a little appetizer? You should consider yourself lucky. Not many in the world know of the true strength of the governments. But I can say that while this is just the tip of the iceberg, it should give you a good idea of the sort of battle youʼre trying to fight.”

”My mother always liked to say I play with my food too much, but she never understood… itʼs not playing, itʼs carving. Tenderizing. I have a feeling that if I were to battle you now, even with all my plans, I would lose. Correct?”

”So why not send a few out to test your bottom line first?”

Sylas once again didnʼt reply, but he had already noticed something. There was only the barest flicker in his eyes as the shadows shot forward.

The first reached him like lightning—a blackened sword wielder swiping at his throat with the menace of a wild savage. His posture didnʼt look anything like a sword wielderʼs at all. It was almost like he was an ape wielding a blade.

He bounded forward on three limbs, his fourth holding the sword more like one would backhand a dagger.

And then he lunged.

Chi.

Sylas looked down at the blade connecting with his throat. Or, rather… his Scorpion Warlord Armor.

He didnʼt so much as move.

His armor didnʼt so much as ripple.

His perception slowed, and his arm reached out in a crawl, delicately pinching the blade.

With a twist of his wrist, he turned it over as though he was inspecting it.

Chi.

The blade snapped.

Sylas flicked the chipped blade tip back. It was so fast that the monkey man couldnʼt even react to it.

The tip just grazed against his throat when it combusted into a rain of fire.

The Will of the man collapsed, and he fell into a heap, heaving for breath. He scrambled back on his palms and feet, maintaining eye contact with Sylas as though he had just faced off against the most harrowing of monsters.

The other shadows all lunged at Sylas at once, only to find themselves frozen in place.

A cracked crown slowly formed over Sylasʼ head.

That was right. What he had realized was that…

These shadows werenʼt of their Overlord Race.

They were failures of the last Summoning.

And before him, they were worthless.

BANG!

They all shattered in a rain of blood, their hearts gripped by Sylasʼ telekinesis and torn to shreds in a violent outburst.
