Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Capítulo 1300: A Monster

Outer Ring, Yuanshi.

While Marden was scheming with the hidden ruler of Yen-Lu, in the underground safehouse of the Shadow Sect, the conversation between Adam and the sect members continued.

A tense silence permeated the room as the subject of the conversation was none other than the ultimate hedgmon of this continent, whom no one knew anything about.

“So how long has he remained the hidden ruler?” Adam asked in a grave tone, his face underneath the mask shadowed by a perpetual dark frown.

“The exact time is uncertain,” Grand Elder Li muttered solemnly. “We have only recently come to learn about him after our spies managed to infiltrate deep into the Arcane Alliance. But…”

“But what?” Adam pressed.

“If I had to make a guess,” The elderly man continued. “Then, based on all the information, as well as our divination attempts, it is safe to assume that he has been ruling Yen-Lu since the dawn of the Arcane Alliance.”

“Are you telling me…” Adam’s heart trembled. “This man, this hidden ruler, he… he’s almost a thousand years old?!”

Grand Elder Li remained silent. Everyone present in the room had grave looks on their faces.

Adam couldn’t help but think to himself in alarm, Something doesn’t sit right.

The Arcane Alliance was established almost a thousand years ago. If this hidden ruler has been secretly controlling Yen-Lu since then…

Wouldn’t that mean he was already a Mana Core Magus a thousand years ago?!

The lifespan of a Mana Core Magus is around a thousand years old. The upper limit of their lifespan is twelve hundred years.

Old Man Acadia was nearing the end of his lifespan. He was almost twelve hundred years old at the time of his death. At the time, he looked like a decrepit old man.

If the hidden ruler had already become a Mana Core Magus a thousand years ago, then that means…

A prodigy amongst prodigies!!

“Just to confirm,” he muttered in a shaky voice. “The hidden ruler… he was already a Mana Core Magus a thousand years ago, right?”

“…That’s right.” Hisaki nodded with a solemn look on his face.

“So, this man has been a Mana Core Magus for a thousand years.” Adam’s lips curled into a wide grin.

“A monster!”

And then, he burst into a crazed fit of laughter.

A few moments later, he abruptly stopped and slipped into deep thought. None of the other Magi in the room judged him for his strange behavior. They were almost used to it by now.

“Hehehe,” A stifled laughter escaped Adam’s lips. It was eerie, and all who heard it felt a chill.

“Tell me,” he began. “How many major wars has Yen-Lu seen in the last thousand years?”

Hisaki frowned at that question.

Grand Elder Li answered in an even voice, “There are always bloody skirmishes going on between smaller sects and clans. And because of the existence of many rogue Magi from the unorthodox factions, I would say, blood is spilled on a daily basis. But if you’re talking about major wars…”

“Three,” Hisaki chimied in. “There have been three wars in the last thousand years that have embroiled all of Yen-Lu. We call it the Great War. All the organizations of the Orthodox Faction had engaged in war with all the organizations from the Unorthodox Faction.”

“Well, then.” Adam’s lips curled into a crooked grin. “You all can expect a fourth Great War sometime in the future. Definitely within the next ninety years. Maybe even sooner.”

“Ninety years…” Grand Elder Li’s eyes narrowed. “That number seems oddly specific.”

Adam chuckled in a deranged manner. “Well, you wanted to know about the Cult of Bones, yeah? Fine, I’ll tell you.”

He inhaled deeply, then extended his hands in a theatrical flair. “Those bastards have something big planned for this world. And by “world” I don’t just mean Yen-Lu. I mean literally the whole world, this planet, the entirety of Tron!”

“What does that have to do with internal wars in Yen-Lu?!” Hisaki blurted out, his face turning dark.

“Oh, it has everything to do with it.” Adam shrugged.

He paused for a moment, then continued, “You know, since the moment I set foot in this land, I’ve noticed a faint difference between you lot and the Magi of the West. I realized that you were stronger physically than your counterparts from the other side of the world.”

Adam chuckled again, then said. “One reason is that you all put a lot of emphasis on martial arts and honing the physical body. And the other, according to my hypothesis… is because you all study the Way from a very young age, isn’t it?”

“Yes, it is our way of life.” Li Shuren nodded matter-of-factly. “The strongest of our Magi are not just warriors and arcane spellcasters, but they are also scholars and philosophers. Almost all sects and clans teach their disciples the philosophy of the Way from an early age.”

“Yes, I figured as much.” Adam nodded. “Anyways, that makes the Magi of Yen-Lu very powerful, but also a big nuisance to the Cult Leader.”

“How so?” Hiskai asked with a deep frown.

“You see…” Adam thought of the right words to say, without disclosing too much about the planetary alignment or the existence of devils.

“The Cult Leader seeks world domination. He wants to get all the continents under his control. Yen-Lu is a big hurdle because of the existence of comparatively powerful warriors across all arcane ranks.

“So, if my guess is correct, he has allied with the hidden ruler of Yen-Lu to get the Magi of this continent under control. If this hidden ruler truly controls not just the Arcane Alliance but also the unorthodox faction, then my guess is very likely to be correct.”

By now, most people in the room already had a general idea about what Adam was alluding to. Realizing that, they were shocked and horrified.

“Don’t tell me…” Hisaki murmured in a low voice, a drop of sweat trickling down the side of his forehead. “It… it all makes sense now!”

Adam laughed. “Yes, it is a brilliant plan. But it was only possible because of the hidden ruler’s power. No one else could have managed to accomplish such a feat.”

His lips turned into a wide grin, and he said:

“This man… this monster has been secretly pulling the strings for a thousand years, manipulating the Arcane Alliance and the unorthodox faction into endless wars, slowly wearing down their strength. He has been weakening Yen-Lu from within, preparing it for an easier invasion from the outside. That is his plan!”
