Chapter 1685 Strange Blood

Ba-dump.

Adamʼs heart beat ominously.

Ba-dump.

It pumped blood through his body.

The blood carried something unusual. It flowed through him, nourishing his internal injuries and slowly mending the faint cracks that had formed along his spine and ribs.

Ba-dump! Ba-dump!

It beat vigorously, pumping blood faster and faster. It seemed to have come alive under the violent onslaught of the four-headed monster.

When it sensed the danger Adam was in, the blood suffused vitality to every inch of his body.

It wasnʼt the vitality that one associated with spring, but the kind that refused to die even in the darkest, most ominous voids.

Ba-dump! Ba-dump! Ba-dump!

The blood that had pooled underneath Adam transformed into tiny tendrils. They cralwed back through the gaping injuries on his body. Every droplet of blood that had scattered on the broken floor returned to the source to him.

Faint scabs formed over the wounds as the blood settled back into his system. His strange blood surged even faster, flowing through his body as it got to work, healing him from within. It was his bodyʼs strange, yet miraculous act of self-preservation.

His eyelids slowly opened. His eyes were initially clouded with confusion. But soon, the monsterʼs relentless assault brought him back to his senses.

Fuck... I passed out for a moment there, he thought to himself.

Suddenly, his eyes widened.

The girl!

Ignoring the monsterʼs brutal punches to his back, he spread his senses outward, his heart gripped by panic. A moment later, he sensed an earthen sphere, and within it, he found the girl still alive and breathing.

He heaved a sigh of relief.

Thank goodness.

Under the violent punches of the abomination, Adam clenched his jaws and slowly pushed himself to his knees. For a moment, he was surprised to find the ground beneath him clean.

Clean, as in, there was not a single trace of blood.

What the hell... happened?

He could worry about this strange phenomenon later. For now, he had to get out from underneath the brutal strikes of the four-headed bastard.

The number of times he had been punched in the back of the head was enough to obliterate a regular Mana Core Magusʼ head like a watermelon. But Adam still clung to life, something he could only credit to his strange physiology. ”Thatʼs enough!” He roared in frustration and finally crawled out from underneath the monster.

Without wasting another breath, he weaved hand seals and cast Flight.

He turned his head slightly and noticed the monster was desperately on his heels, roaring madly from all four - no, five mouths.

Adam picked up speed, realizing there was no point in fighting the abomination head-on anymore. Not with so many people on the ground. The quickest way to deal with it was to thrust it into the depths of the spirit world.

As the stone pillar drew closer, he couldnʼt help but think bitterly, Even after gaining all this power, Iʼm still helpless in the end...

Was life always going to be this miserable?

That question bloomed in his heart. But an even more important question emerged...

Just how many more of these monsters has the Cult cultivated?

If even he was having such difficulties dealing with the abomination, then how would the others fare?

The thought made his heart turn cold.

Before long, he had arrived in front of the stone pillar. It was surprising that the last remaining cultist, Vortigan, hadnʼt barred his way.

All the better, he thought with a sneer.

Adam arrived right before the towering pillar, but instead of attacking, he cancelled the spell and plunged downward.

BAM!

The monster ended up slamming against the pillar, causing a wide crack to appear on its surface.

Adam harrumphed. He landed at the base of the pillar, drew his hand back as he gathered a tyrannical amount of mana into his fist, and then-

Boom!

A wide, gaping crater instantly appeared on the pillar. The grey barrier engulfing the city flickered momentarily. ”Still not enough?” Adam murmured as he gazed at the barrier.

He then quickly jumped to the side, narrowly dodging the monsterʼs kick.

The abomination screamed madly and followed after him. Adam stuck close to the pillar, his back against its broad surface. The monster continued to hurl one punch after another, his arms turning into a crimson blur.

Adam dodged and blocked the strikes, ensuring that the majority of the punches hit the pillar instead of him. He continued to move around the pillar, and the monster followed after him. Going berserk had dimmed whatever intelligence it had, it seemed.

Slowly, but surely, cracks formed around the circumference of the pillarʼs base. The towering monument creaked and groaned, until finally...

Crack!

Giant fissures appeared across the vast barrier overhead. The grey light flickered in and out of existence, desperately trying to hold on. And with one final attack from the monster at the base of the pillar, the barrier was snuffed out like a bubble.

In that moment, Adam felt his faint connection to the spirit world return. The corner of his lips curled upward, and he murmured, ”How about that?”

Eight giant red fists closed in on him, threatening to smash him into paste. However, this time he didnʼt move to block. Instead, he weaved a simple hand seal and disappeared.

Boom!

The monsterʼs strikes hit the pillar once again, causing it to shudder and lean toward the ground. For a moment, its crimson eyes blinked in confusion as it wondered where its prey had gone.

A moment later, a firm hand tapped its back, and Adamʼs cold voice echoed in its ears. ”Exile.”

A giant, arched gate materialized before the monster. Beyond the gate was a realm of abstract concepts, horrors, and mysteries.

For the first time, the abominationʼs crimson eyes gleamed with terror.

But it was already too late.

Hand of Doom: One Hit!

Adam struck the monster viciously, shoving it through the gate and into the depths of the spirit world. Then, with another swift hand seal, the arched doorway blurred and disappeared.

Only after he had confirmed that the abomination had been completely dealt with, Adamʼs shoulders relaxed, and he let out a quiet breath of relief.

He raised his head and noticed the giant pillar slowly falling to the ground. If it landed, countless lives would be lost. So he quickly weaved hand seals, preparing to deal with the broken, falling monument.

But only a split-second later, he paused. His eyes narrowed, a cold glint flickering in them.

Because right at that moment...

Vortigan had made his move!
