Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1563  Weak Position

Adamʼs first instinct was to laugh.

He couldnʼt help but wonder how his siblings had turned out to be of royal lineage, while he himself had grown up as nothing more than a peasant of humble birth.

His lips curled into a smile, and he said, ”So youʼre a Mind Dragon?”

Zagho Somniaʼs eyes narrowed, and he turned his attention to Adam. He could see mana rolling steadily around the youthʼs body, as if he were prepared to fight at any moment.

Realizing that, he couldnʼt help but scoff. ”I donʼt know if youʼre arrogant or foolish, human.”

Huh, this guyʼs really looking down on me, Adamʼs eyes narrowed.

He couldnʼt tell the newcomerʼs exact arcane rank, but he had a vague feeling that the dragon was no more powerful than a Mana Seed Magus. Of course, as a dragon, he was far superior to others at the same rank.

Valerian turned into a gray light and transformed into a cat. He leapt off the ground and landed on Adamʼs shoulder. With a curious and hopeful gaze, he asked in an eager voice:

”Youʼre a Mind Dragon? Like me!”

”Iʼm surprised you know about Mind Dragons, Your Highness,” Zagho said in a respectful voice.

”Lady Butterfly told me!” Valerian quickly answered. He was ecstatic to finally meet another dragon.

Zagho Somnia frowned. ”Lady Butterfly?”

”Val, let me do the talking.” Adam grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and tucked him into his robes, leaving only his head sticking out.

The simple action of his caused Zagho to frown. Valerian was a Mind Dragon of high noble birth, and yet… Adam was treating him like a damned pet!

”Human, did you form a familiar bond with the prince?” Zagho got straight to the point.

”I did,” Adam answered truthfully.

Zaghoʼs face darkened as he thought to himself:

He isnʼt lying…

He then asked the next most important question.

”Did you transplant the princeʼs blood into yourself?”

”I did not.” Adam shook his head.

Zaghoʼs eyes narrowed, and he wondered in confusion, Heʼs… telling the truth.

Does he not know how precious a dragonʼs blood is? Or the benefits it could bring to a human after a transplant?

No, perhaps he isnʼt even aware of this method to begin with. Could he be…

”Are you from one of the lower worlds?” He couldnʼt help but ask.

”Yes.” Adam nodded. ”The arcane ceiling in my world is the Mana Core Rank.”

The ceiling is merely Rank 1? Zagho was taken aback.

And yet, heʼs already achieved this rank at such a young age?

”How old are you?” he pressed.

The corner of Adamʼs lips twitched. The only reason why he even bothered answering the dragonʼs questions was that the latter was Valerianʼs kin.

Adam knew how much Valerian wanted to know about his origins, and this was the perfect opportunity. Besides, it wasnʼt as if he could refuse to answer the dragonʼs questions.

Moreover, he also needed to look for an escape in case something went wrong.

”Sixty-seven,” he answered truthfully.

Zagho Somnia slipped into silence. The contempt that had once lingered in his topaz eyes was gone.

Dragons were creatures of magic above all else. And if there was one thing they respected, it was the ability to comprehend magic and walk the arcane path with skill and discipline.

In the worlds of the Greater Universe, the most gifted spellcasters formed their mana cores in their twenties. Most achieved it in their thirties or forties.

By comparison, Adam forming his mana core in his sixties did not seem impressive. If anything, by the standards of the Greater Universe, it would be considered mediocre.

But Adam was not from the Greater Universe.

He was born in a lower world, one where the arcane ceiling stopped at the Mana Core Rank, and where mana density was exponentially lower than even the weakest worlds of the Greater Universe.

In such an environment, reaching the Mana Core Rank at all was extraordinary. To do so under those conditions was nothing short of monstrous.

The Magi of the lower worlds would be considered talented if they took a hundred to two hundred years to attain Magushood, Zagho thought to himself.

But this kid… heʼs not even seventy!

”Magus, did you truly not transplant the princeʼs blood into your body?” He couldnʼt help but ask.

If there was one thing that could increase a humanʼs affinity for magic, then it was the blood of a fantastical beast. And dragons stood at the apex of that category.

”No, he didnʼt!” Valerian screamed even before Adam could speak a word. ”Donʼt look down on my brother!”

Zagho gulped involuntarily. ”I, uh… I apologize, Your Highness.”

Inwardly, he couldnʼt help but think, This is going to be far more difficult than I thought. The prince has clearly grown attached to the human.

”Now, may I ask some questions?” Adam asked in a solemn voice.

Zagho deeply looked at the human, then gestured for him to continue.

”Are there more of youse coming to this island?” The raven-haired youth asked in a grim voice.

Although he was now fairly certain that he wouldnʼt be harmed — thanks to the familiar bond he shared with Valerian — he still didnʼt know whether he might be taken from here by force.

As much as he longed to go to the Greater Universe, now was not the time. He still had responsibilities in Tron. Until he had dealt with everything that needed to be resolved in his homeworld, he had no intention of leaving.

”And so what if they are?” Zagho asked in a low voice.

Adamʼs brows furrowed into a tight knot. Once the other dragons arrived, he would be the weakest existence on this island — aside from Valerian. When that happened, how could he possibly hold any leverage in whatever conversation that followed?

No, even before that, would such mighty dragons even bother speaking with him? A mere human. Worse, a human who had formed a familiar bond with the prince of their clan.

No matter how Adam looked at it, he was in a dangerously weak position.

And the next moment, as if to confirm his fears, a thunderous roar echoed from outside.

A dragonʼs roar!

Then another.

And another.

Several of them…
