Archean Eon Art

Chapter 246 114 Seconds

20th September.

In a dilapidated county city in Hu State, several plumes of smoke rose into the sky. This county city only had a population of about 20,000 people, and they all hid in the underground tunnels as per normal protocol.

A cat demon wantonly massacred humans.

About half a kilometer away from the cat demon monarch was a dilapidated restaurant. From afar, five demon monarchs watched the scene on the top floor.

“The cat demon is busy massacring humans. A Godfiend team will soon arrive. We will cast forbidden spells the moment we take action,” said the skinny leader in a deep voice.

“Archean Mountain’s Godfiend teams are very powerful. They have excellent teamwork. Brother, isn’t the time limit of 150 seconds a little too short? Why don’t we increase it a little? How about 240 seconds?”

“That’s right. Once 150 seconds are up, we have to retreat. That’s too little time! Last time, we killed a Godfiend. The remaining three Godfiends were clearly much weaker. If we had spent another 30 seconds attacking them, we would have definitely wiped them out. However, you still want us to retreat after 150 seconds are up. We have been in the human world for more than a year, but we only managed to kill one Great Solar Godfiend.”

“Fool! Brother is being careful. Only by being careful can we live long. Once a Marquis Godfiend arrives, we won’t be able to escape,” retorted a demon monarch.

“In the human world, survival is of utmost importance,” said another demon monarch.

The skinny leader looked into the distance with his dark yellow eyes. He indifferently said, “You have to listen to my orders if you’re in my team. No matter how tempted you are, you have to retreat after 150 seconds are up. This is my rule.”

“They’re coming.”

“The Godfiends are here.”

The five demon monarchs saw a huge bird flying over from afar. Four Godfiends jumped down from the sky.

“It’s a Great Solar Godfiend team. Attack,” ordered the skinny man.

In the human world, there were very few elite demon monarch teams. These elite demon monarch teams consisted of the 300 elite demon monarchs that Demon Sage Nine Abyss had personally received when they entered the human world. Over a hundred elite demon monarch teams were formed and scattered throughout the human world. There were only a few dozen elite demon monarch teams in each dynasty’s territory. Every elite demon monarch team was extremely cautious and wouldn’t take action easily.

If they saw a Marquis Godfiend arrive, they would immediately burrow into the ground. Some demon monarchs were adept at escaping underground.

This five-man elite demon monarch team would only attack when a Great Solar Godfiend team arrived.

Pfft.

The cat demon monarch fled in panic, but a sword beam killed it. The cat demon monarch was split in half, and the corpse fell into a ruined building.

At that moment, five figures suddenly attacked the Godfiend team from hundreds of feet away. At the same time, red mist permeated a half-kilometer area and enveloped the four Godfiends.

“Not good. Request for reinforcements.” The Godfiend team was very experienced. They immediately requested for help. At the same time, they cast forbidden Godfiend spells and resisted the attacks.

They did not seek success; they just hoped for nobody to make a mistake. Based on experience, Archean Mountain’s Godfiend teams were generally weaker than elite demon monarch teams.

Although there was usually one person in a Godfiend team that had the strength of a weak Marquis Godfiend when they went all-out and the Godfiends worked well together, the elite demon monarch teams were still stronger. In an elite demon monarch team, typically, two demon monarchs had the strength of a weak Marquis Godfiend. Some also had strong divine powers.

“They will naturally retreat after we hold on for a bit longer.”

“If they don’t retreat, a Marquis Godfiend will arrive.” The Godfiend team was very confident in their chances of survival. They didn’t wish to kill their enemies; they just wanted to stall for time.

In a situation where the strength difference wasn’t too great, there was some hope of stalling for enough time.

“Kill!” The five demon monarchs went completely mad.

The leader, the skinny demon monarch, transformed into an illusory shadow as he attacked crazily and strangely. A bear demon monarch brandished his axe and cleaved down. The other three demon monarchs also executed various attacks.

“Ah, the leader of this elite demon monarch team is too fast. Its claws are too ruthless.” A dual-wielding Godfiend resisted with great difficulty. A wound appeared on his arm. The robe bestowed by Archean Mountain had been torn. It showed how powerful the demon monarch’s claws were. “My right arm is injured. I can’t last much longer.”

“Leave the demon monarch leader to me. Junior Brother Lu, hold back the other two demon monarchs.” said an elderly Godfiend —that held a shield and a battle saber.

Time passed as the four Godfiends supported each other.

Thirty seconds, sixty seconds, ninety seconds…

“Ugh.” The Godfiend—who had been injured earlier-saw his arm flying. This caused the expressions of the other three Godfiends to change drastically.

“Junior Brother Lu!”

“Senior Brother Lu!”

“Kill them within 150 seconds.” The five demon monarchs were overjoyed. As long as one Godfiend lost their peak combat strength, they would be able to kill the other three Godfiends.

Huh? The five demon monarchs suddenly sensed something. They looked over and saw a blurry lightning-clad figure appear. The figure stood on a dilapidated street in the county city. Before they could even make out the blurry figure’s appearance, they saw a billowing black baneful aura transform into five black serpents that coiled around the five of them. Two demon monarchs froze to death on the spot. The remaining three were greatly weakened by the baneful aura and the Darkstar domain. The three remaining demon monarchs—who barely survived-felt suffocated.

Not good. It’s only been 114 seconds. How did a Marquis Godfiend arrive so quickly? The two weaker demon monarchs died on the spot in despair as a saber beam pierced their heads.

The demon monarch leader escaped quickly as he despaired. The closest prefecture city is 390 kilometers away. A Marquis Godfiend usually takes 300 seconds to arrive. It’s only been 114 seconds. How did a Marquis Godfiend arrive so quickly? Could he be guarding this prefecture? If he was guarding this prefecture, why would a Godfiend team be sent to rescue this county city instead of a Marquis Godfiend?

The skinny demon monarch didn’t understand why a Marquis Godfiend had arrived so quickly.

Humans had lacking manpower. Godfiend teams were usually responsible for patrolling two or three prefectures. Marquis Godfiends typically guarded two to three prefectures and were also responsible for rescuing any Godfiend team nearby.

If this prefecture was guarded by this Marquis Godfiend—who had rescued the Godfiend team—then the Godfiend team wouldn’t have even been sent over in the first place.

Pfft.

A saber beam penetrated the demon monarch’s glabella. His body withered before turning into dust and scattering. Only then did Meng Chuan walk to the other four demon monarchs’ corpses. He slashed each of them and let Demon Slayer absorb two demon monarchs’ blood.

“Uncle-Master Meng.” The four Great Solar Godfiends were overjoyed when they saw Meng Chuan. Marquis Eastcalm, Meng Chuan! He was the fastest in the world! Who didn’t know that?

Meng Chuan smiled at them and saw the Godfiend missing an arm. He couldn’t help but say, “Quickly go to Archean Mountain and treat your injuries.”

“Haha, it’s just a minor injury. It’s all thanks to Uncle-Master Meng this time. If not, we would be in big trouble.”

“Uncle-Master Meng’s speed is indeed unparalleled. You arrived in less than 150 seconds.”

They were overjoyed and shocked. Meng Chuan had taken only 114 seconds-a very short amount of time—to travel 1720 kilometers!

Five minutes was 300 seconds. Most Marquis Godfiends would only travel slightly over 50 kilometers in 114 seconds. It was equivalent to traveling from Jiang State Capital’s southern city wall to its northern city wall. Since their speed only amounted to that, most Marquis Godfiends were unable to rescue Godfiend teams in time. Therefore, this elite demon monarch team had chosen to retreat after 150 seconds. They were already extremely cautious compared to other elite demon monarch teams.

Unfortunately, Meng Chuan was now responsible for rescuing Godfiend teams in six different states! Meng chuan was much faster than even Regis Godfiends!

Meng Chuan’s speed made the demon monarchs in the six states very uncomfortable. They only fought Godfiends for a short while before Meng Chuan arrived.

Meng Chuan’s constant speedy rescues and demon monarch massacres caused the demons to feel pained by such losses.

Two months later, the demons’ upper echelons gave an order to all elite demon monarch teams that were suspected to be within the six states Meng Chuan governed. “When attacking Godfiend teams, one had to retreat after 60 seconds are up.”

Sixty seconds? What could they do in 60 seconds? It wasn’t even enough time to destroy a city. A third Firmament demon monarch could only run a dozen or so kilometers in 60 seconds.

If Meng Chuan was within 500 kilometers of an attacked city, he would arrive at an attacked city within 60 seconds.

Therefore, some elite demon monarch teams decided to distance themselves from Meng Chuan’s suspected rescue range. They had to do this because they were too easily caught. Meng Chuan was simply too fast.
