Immortality Through Array Formations

Chapter 2561: Chapter 40: Great Wilderness Sect (3)

Otherwise, the higher the level of Formation research, in turn, the higher the Formation barriers formed, and the harsher the oppression on ordinary cultivators.

Similarly, these barriers are almost impossible for the lower-level loose cultivators to break through...

Mo Hua frowned slightly.

The more one personally experiences things in this world, the more complex they know it to be, and the more difficult it becomes to solve problems; it is never as simple as previously thought.

At this moment, a voice sounded, ”Little brother...”

Mo Hua was slightly stunned and turned his head. The boat captain said, ”What are you thinking about?”

Mo Hua came back to his senses and smiled, ”Nothing, just a bit tired...”

The boat captain’s tone was somewhat serious as he cautioned Mo Hua:

”These days have indeed been quite exhausting, but when you’re out and about, it’s like this; you must remain vigilant, and never casually fall asleep; otherwise, with one careless mistake, your life could be lost...”

Mo Hua knew he had good intentions and nodded with a smile, ”Thank you, captain, I will remember this.”

The boat captain nodded.

Mo Hua thought for a moment and suddenly asked, ”By the way, captain, I heard that over in the Great Wilderness, there is... chaos in the war?”

The boat captain was slightly startled, then sighed, ”Yes, it’s broken out, and it’s worse than before...”

Mo Hua was a bit surprised, ”Was there fighting before as well?”

The boat captain nodded, ”The Great Wilderness has always been chaotic and backward; for hundreds of years, there has been no major battle, only minor skirmishes, but now...”

The boat captain’s expression was somewhat grave, ”It seems this time it’s for real...”

Mo Hua frowned and asked, ”So now, how is the fighting?”

The boat captain shook his head, ”How would I know? I’m just an old man ferrying at the Sand Sea, making a living; I have no ability to inquire about such major events, but...”

The boat captain paused for a moment, then slowly said:

”I did hear from passing passengers chatting, they say this time the army in the Great Wilderness has mobilized with unprecedented force, even sending out demon soldiers mounted on Wang Hu, proclaiming ’The Blue Heaven is dead, the Yellow Heaven shall stand’...”

Mo Hua’s heart tightened, and he subconsciously touched his Storage Ring.

Inside his Storage Ring, there was still a dragon flag inscribed with ”The Blue Heaven is dead, the Wild Heaven shall stand.”

The boat captain knew nothing about this and continued:

”...These people are truly audacious. But I’ve heard that nowadays the Barbarian Soldiers are vast and imposing, breaking through several stronghold’s fortifications, catching the Taoist Court off guard and suffering a crushing defeat... Of course, this is just what I heard, I don’t know if it’s true or false...”

”In these times, rumors are rampant, and truth from falsehood is becoming harder to distinguish.”

Mo Hua frowned again and asked, ”Then, wouldn’t Great Desert City be unsafe?”

The boat captain replied, ”That won’t happen.”

Mo Hua was puzzled.

The boat captain explained, ”The situation is chaotic, yes, but not everything is in chaos; at least Great Desert City won’t be.”

”This is the only Fourth-grade Immortal City within thousands of miles, standing amidst the Sand Sea, at the border of Li State and the Great Wilderness, in a very strategic location.”

”It can be said this is a ’fortress’ set by the Taoist Court.”

”Moreover, Great Desert City is under the jurisdiction of the Great Wilderness Sect. The Great Wilderness Sect, that’s a strong Fourth-grade sect.”

Mo Hua was somewhat surprised, ”Great Desert City is under the jurisdiction of the Great Wilderness Sect?”

Tongxian City is north of Li State, near Kan State.

Mo Hua had lived in Tongxian City for many years, so he didn’t know much about the sect territories south of Li State, neighboring the Great Wilderness.

The boat captain saw Mo Hua’s ”inexperienced” look and wasn’t surprised.

A young man traveling the world and having less knowledge is quite normal.

The boat captain said, ”The area south of Li State is called the Great Wilderness. And the Great Wilderness Sect, directly named after the ’Great Wilderness’, so you know, the origin of this sect must be significant.”

”What is the origin of the Great Wilderness Sect?” Mo Hua asked.

The boat captain, who had been sailing for years and had a head full of ”trivia”, loved to chat aimlessly.

Seeing Mo Hua asking him now, he became interested, took out a wine pot, drank some cheap wine, moistened his throat, and then began to narrate:

”Originally, there was no Great Wilderness Sect in this Great Wilderness.”

”Thousands of years ago... I’ve forgotten exactly how many years, anyway, the Great Wilderness rebelled, established itself as the Imperial Court, openly opposing the Taoist Court.”

”The Taoist Court sent Taoist Soldiers to suppress the Great Wilderness.”

”That war lasted a long time, probably no less than several hundred years before it was completely quelled.”

”Afterwards, the imperial power of the Great Wilderness collapsed, and the rebellion forces were suppressed.”

”To strengthen control over the Great Wilderness, the Taoist Court forcibly established a sect directly under its jurisdiction here in the Great Wilderness, and this sect, named directly after ’Great Wilderness’, aims to suppress the remaining royals of the Great Wilderness and many of its princes.”

”Of course, another saying is to suppress the ’fortune’ of the Great Wilderness.”

”You, the Great Wilderness Imperial Family, your ancestral land is merely a sect of my Taoist Court.”

”In this way, what face do you have to proclaim yourself as ’emperor’?”

”For so many years, the Great Wilderness Sect has been guarding the state boundaries of the Great Wilderness and the barbarian tribe regions.”

”In many places, branches of the ’Great Wilderness Sect’ have been established.”

”The Fourth-grade Great Desert City is the largest jurisdiction area apart from the main seat of the Great Wilderness City of the Great Wilderness Sect.”

Mo Hua asked, ”The Great Wilderness Sect is only... Fourth-grade?”

The boat captain glanced at Mo Hua:

”What do you mean ’only’ Fourth-grade? With such a big tone, looking down on Fourth-grade... Do you think you are a prodigy from a Fifth-grade Major Sect?”

Mo Hua did not speak.

The boat captain explained:

”You’re still young, don’t understand some things. In the cultivation world, assessments aren’t just counting off numbers one, two, three, four, five so easily...”

”The higher you go, the colder it gets.”

”Especially for sects, reaching Fifth-grade, the significance is completely different, the authority is too great, the Taoist Court couldn’t possibly truly grant the Great Wilderness Sect Fifth-grade status.”

”In these times, it’s already good if the Taoist Court doesn’t downgrade your status; basically don’t expect them to promote you to Fifth-grade anymore.”

”Besides, there’s no slot available; a carrot only grows so big, even if it grows large, without a slot it’s no use.”

”Furthermore, you need to know that Fifth-grade near the Taoist State, and within some Great Province Boundary, is not at all the same concept as a Fifth-grade in this distant Great Wilderness.”

”Truly giving the Great Wilderness Sect Fifth-grade status would mean granting a ’mighty giant’ in the Great Wilderness, which they simply couldn’t control.”

”So, all these years, the Great Wilderness Sect remains Fourth-grade.”

”But this Fourth-grade is strong for a remote area, with a great influence and strong power...”

The boat captain spoke without reservation.

”The Great Wilderness Sect...”

Mo Hua’s heart was slightly stirred; he remembered his childhood playmates, Da’hu and the others, had joined this Great Wilderness Sect.

Previously, he didn’t know that this Great Wilderness Sect was this formidable.

If he goes to Great Desert City next, will he meet Da’hu and the others...
