The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 1969 Avoid A Fight

Their conversation was cut short as one of the Lesser Watchers entered the room.

”Sir, we have an issue in the street out front. It seems that the Valalan League left behind a spying spell that we didnʼt notice, and now theyʼve come back to file a formal complaint about your duplicity.”

The watchers didnʼt really have facial expressions, as they had no eyebrows, eyelids, or visible lips, as their facial tentacles hid their mouth. But the way that the tentacles were wiggling definitely gave Karl the impression that the watcher was highly amused.

”Alright, I will go out and speak with them. Perhaps theyʼre here to donate to the Guild Fund, in which case we should give them a proper Darklight Host welcome.”

That made the new arrivals laugh, while Clan Leader Nerissa sighed.

Karl left the room, and stepped outside to find Rae standing protectively over Meisje, who was the ”Blind Elf Girl” that the first group of troublemakers had supposedly come for.

Only, she was no longer blind, so Karl technically hadnʼt lied.

”Honoured guests, welcome to the Darklight Hostʼs Blackwoods Branch. Might I ask what brings such a distinguished group to my gates today?”

The looks on their faces clearly said that they knew that he was messing with them. They could clearly sense nine Supreme Ranked auras inside, plus the Supreme Ranked constructs that were still active in the city.

Rue had never turned off the Supreme Ranked city guard Gargoyle spells after she activated them last time.

”You deceived us,” the Supreme on Karlʼs left blurted out, which earned him annoyed looks from the other two.

”Of course I did. Did you think that I would just start handing over Guild members whenever someone demanded them? Thatʼs not how this works at all. If you would like to file a complaint, I have a premade form that you can fill out, and we will get back to you within seven to ten business days.”

One of the Immortals in the back snickered, then quickly silenced themselves.

”If youʼve come to pick a fight, I really donʼt recommend it.

But I donʼt sense your whole alliance outside my village, so I suspect that you are here for some other reason than another round of the Guild War. Would you like to sit and talk?

You will find that Iʼm quite reasonable when dealing with reasonable people.”

”We did not come for war. We have concerns about the rumours that youʼre arming multiple Clan Alliances all along the coasts, using the Elves as your intermediary.”

Karl put on a fake wounded expression. ”You have it all wrong. We are an equipment manufacturer. We make gear of all sorts, and ship mostly via sea merchants to the coastal auctions.

Where it ends up after that is not up to us.

It is all up to the highest bidder, as is true of all crafted items that come to market. A fair and equal method of distribution that doesnʼt imbalance the existing military forces.

If they had enough money to overcome their foes so easily, they wouldnʼt have needed to wait for us.

This is not going to be a short conversation, please come inside out of the weather. I will bring you to the meeting room. Well, the secondary room, as we are holding a Guild meeting in the main meeting room.”

”A guild meeting that involves so many Supremes?”

”One is Clan Leader Nerissa of the New Home Merchant Clan, but we are closely allied, and she wanted to meet our new master craftsmen. Actually, why donʼt we finish the meeting later, and you can come meet everyone?

I think you will find some familiar faces there, and perhaps make some new friends.”

The Valalan League representatives frowned.

That was one hundred percent bait. He had someone in there that they were not going to be happy about, and it didnʼt take a genius to guess who it was likely to be. But if they ran into Rue Gathuzan in that setting, where they were outnumbered and outclassed, they wouldnʼt be able to do anything about it.

”The formal announcements will be spread around soon, anyhow. We canʼt have our top artisans sitting idle simply because theyʼve reached Supremacy.

So, the word will spread quickly about the new items that we will be putting up for sale here at the Guild House.” Karl added.

There was a moment of silence as they conversed by System Message, and then the leader of the group nodded.

”Thank you for your hospitality. We will gladly come to meet your new members. If they are Supreme Ranked Artisans, they are sure to become incredibly valuable assets to the Guild.

But might we ask, did they just advance? Or were they recruited from other Clans?”

Karl shook his head. ”Neither, they are on sabbatical from the Divine Battlefields, and transferred between branches of the Darklight Host to spend a century or two here.”

That caused a wave of horror to pass over the faces of the Valalan League alliance leaders.

If Karl had brought in a bunch of war veterans with crazy combat skills, what were they supposed to do? They had barely managed to defeat Rue the first time, and she escaped. If there were that many more at her level, it wouldnʼt even be a fight.

The members had all been briefed by the Lesser Watcher and Skadi by the time that Karl led the visitors into the sitting room, where a tense atmosphere quickly replaced the humour of their early meeting.

”Dick, Jimbo, Roger.”

”Rue. You know those are not our names.”

The dragon shrugged and Karl patted her on the shoulder.

”There is no need to fight today. The leaders of the Valalan League agreed to come meet our new craftsmen today, before we send out the official announcement that the Guild House will start stocking a small selection of newly crafted Supreme Rank items and weapons.”

Rue smiled. ”Oh, then I apologize for my rudeness, dear customers. Iʼm sure that youʼll be quite impressed with my improved crafting skills, and all the wonderful new weapons that I can make.”
